  • If you haven’t seen this Cruiser do its thing over the last few years, you must have been living under a rock! Rocket Rod’s absolute monster of a 79 Series Cruiser, affectionately known as ‘My Roo’, has not only tackled some of the toughest tracks in Oz - From the remote Oombulgurri Track in the Kimberley, right through to the Climies track in Tassie and everything in between - but it’s also one of the best setup Cruisers we’ve been lucky enough to feature. And with good reason too! Because if there’s one thing Rocket Rod needs from his Cruiser with all the tough trips it does with 4WD Action, or from all the farm work and daily driving it does, it’s that it needs to be reliable. So you can bet your next cold one that if it lasts on Rockets Cruiser, its worth running! This Cruiser is also a show vehicle for Wholesale Automatic Transmissions, out of Bayswater in Victoria. They specialise in automatic conversions and upgrades, and Rockets Cruiser is running the crown jewel of an auto conversion - a factory Toyota 6-speed automatic transmission out of the 200 Series LandCruiser.

She's a really sweet ride but I still prefer a manual trans.

Considering he owns and runs an automatic workshop, i think itd be blasphemy for it to not be auto..

Because what the Aussie boys, and some USA boys, know is that you cannot TOUCH an auto off road, on technical and rock crawling...I love a manual, but not for serious off roading, No way1

Just a question, am I better off turboing my 3.0 diesel hilux, or ls1 conversion?

You would be better off buying a high quality turbo, make sure your gears are good to go, and even buying an Atlas 4-speed transfer case for less than HALF of what an all out conversion would bring.
