Recommendation: a good movie to study cinematic composition and amazing staging is Akira Kurosawa's High and Low , he even sneaks in key plot points and spoiler details in how he arranged his scenes
This is why I love moderndayjames. He comes up with videos on topics that people don't really talk about but are super cool and I love it, it's like he's reading my mind without me know what I want. This video is exactly what I needed to reference for a project I'm working on
Seeing the name Gavilar Kholin was a real surprise o.o since I got recommended here randomly. Had to do a double take on those scenes. Also, very well articulated tips and clean presentation. I shall reference this for future projects >:D
Frank Miller knew this well. He used great light/shadow effects when he made his graphic novel 300. He probably used the movie for lighting inspiration ;)
You ever saw the film Night of The Hunter? It is one of Lynch's fav, but it reverses Light and Dark, with Dark being used for good and light for evil. It is superb film
Hey man! I suggest a grey background next time, the white one (or a black one) kinda influences how we feel the picture, grey would be a way more sterile! Consider this!
I think because the choreography is generally pretty boring (since complex choreography is time consuming and expensive). So they keep the camera where the action is (in the face). That's why animation and action packed movies will have a bit more of those medium shots

Or Citizen Kane
commenting so I could come back to this comment
It would be cool if there was a list of movie recommendations like this specifically for artists to study

Please do more of these. This is an area most artists skip. I would love to learn more about cinematic composition

This is amazing
Ha! You used John wick as an example which is wonderful because that is the vibe I am going for in my work. Good job with the video
hell yes! I should have some more videos in this series because I've been doing a cinematic drawing class. Thanks for watching
Midsommar is a horror movie but it uses very bright lighting, which makes it even more scary and disturbing.
oh yeah! that's what i love about it, it's so unsettling
Hey man! I suggest a grey background next time, the white one (or a black one) kinda influences how we feel the picture, grey would be a way more sterile! Consider this!
you are awesome! thanks for this information
I love this video and the examples and if you made more of the kind would be awesome
Wow, I learned so much watching this, thanks! :)
im glad you used Lorde's cult movie as an example
Thanks James, I miss your videos
Are the begging two senses from the way of kings? Gavilar Kholin sounds familier.
Really interesting!
Shit, what a timing
Is that Stormlight Archive?
Offering for the algorithm.
Yes!
where is the lightning composition video?
still in my brain. I did a class on it but I'll get it to youtube eventually
5:40 what movie is that shot in the middle of the left column from
I think it's Ruby Rose in John Wick.
I would love to join the Discord server but I can't get the link to work :(

Hello I want to learn to draw anatomy better, can you make a video about it? please.

Wow
Can't join the discord unfortunately.
I need the music used in this video
video breakdown pls
Does anyone happen to know the music played in the video? I feel like I've heard it before, but I'm super curious, thank you!
Your discord link doesn't work!
Do consider streaming on twitch. You’ll get more dedicated and interactive community.
going to have to disagree. I did twitch for a year and didnt have nearly the same audience size/ consistency that I get here on youtube
I would love to be a storyboard artist does anyone know what steps I should take?
Nice video
It’s been a while mister
I'm on a 1.5 year long project! Once that's done I'll be releasing lots more content. Til then tune into the livestreams!
AoT S4 is great example of cinematic composition
oh yeah it is :D
Close ups are so over used in TV shows so I don't like them. I prefer medium close.
