Hey Capt. K, it's been a while but life slowed down so I'm checking to be sure everyone is doing, still. Always enjoy the content & clean language, too. 😊
I'm usually quite jealous of some of your fancy tools, but not this time. I have a set of metal shaping tools just like yours. A sledge, a pipe wrench, and even a Crescent wrench. One doesn't have to be a TH-camr to own the good stuff.
Good Morning Captain !! The 555 is rapidly becoming the “Swiss Army Knife” of the homestead. The repairs look great. The curve on the gussets look like a factory installation. Keep up the good work God Bless and Stay Safe. Tim
For $200 it is excellent value for your homestead with the abundance of rocks you have. Nifty piece of repairing and it's good to go, doing twice as much as it was intended to do!
That curve in the reinforcement makes it look cool maybe do that to my 66” grapple if it starts cracking, the hydraulic lines on those are always a pain catching on things, great fix Mike, if you have any old tractor suitcase weights laying around you can hang them on rear bucket for more counter balance.
Good job. One thing to consider sometime is putting plates on the clamping units - that weld the center flats to the outer flat. The piston to the pivot on the tractor. Will fortify the hands and make them stronger and won't wobble sideways. Good buy.
you broke me up when you said let's throw these nuts into the woods 🤣😂, great improvement on the grapple, i am not sure that DP old 120 could pick up that rock so easily, great video Mike 👍👍👍👍👍
Hello Mike. Your Engineering degree is sure paying off with the repairs so far on the grapple. Those rounded gussets look like they really mean business for what they were designed for. Have good days!
That grapple was definitely a good buy, now you've got the extra capacity to use more attachments, you could like DP make your own tree limb cutting attachment. 👍
That's what I like to see, reinforcement of my own methods of first carefully determining the maximum capabilities of a piece of equipment,🤔 and then immediately attempting to exceed them by a factor of three🤪. Thanks as always for the video, and take care.
Hi Mike. Having a welder around the homestead sure is handy. With it, you can fix metal stuff that you would have had to replace, if you didn't have it. I'm still surprised by how many situations pop up that the welder is just perfect for. However, having welding slag drop down into your shoe is not at all fun, but it does wake you up! The grapple repairs you did should hold up pretty well. I was thinking, before you said it, that those steel rounds you found at the church demo site would be great for that repair!
"Probably some repair videos too". LOL. That might just be an understatement Mike. That grapple will be another handy tool to have around in any caser. Nice find.
I bought a broken one almost identical to that. Guy ripped it apart with his skidsteer. Being a welder fabricator by trade I rebuilt the whole thing. Have $500 in it and it’s beefier than anything you can buy under $5k. I also made it a single grapple with a bigger cylinder instead of a dual. Wish I could post pictures on here. Might help give you ideas if you decided to beef it up.
@@CaptainKleemanI left my cutting edge but the bottom runners extend out past the cutting edge. Basically the cutting edge is flat on the bottom but has teeth parallel with the ground. I can rake and grade with it. Sorta look at it like a backhoe, Not the best equipment for a job but decent at doing everything.
Nice repair job, like the approach to adding in gussets to strengthen the grapple bucket. The thing I found over the course of that type of repair work is as you strengthen one point it transfers the weak point some place else down the line, but as you repair that point one usually ends up with the heavy duty version of the attachment, and the repair experiences, one might call it a win win, who knew! Thanks for the update, enjoyed watching.
It needs some doubler pad like where it’s cracked and dented at the welded areas! I’m glad to see you stick welding the repairs, Mike! Good job my friend! Everything takes practice brother and I think you’re doing as well as anyone with your experience, my friend! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Mike could you rig up what they call a pogo stick on the top middle of the grapple with heavy springs to hold the hydraulic lines toward the middle of the grapple..?
Insufficient material thickness is what it looks like Mike , that’s a big problem with factory made products on an assembly line! Downfall for the company! Double it up as much as possible, Mike! Metal isn’t supposed to tear like that brother, that’s why I say insufficient material thickness! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻 But that’s totally up to your choosing brother! I’ve repaired too many things that rip just like this! Good luck 🍀🙏🏻
Nothing better than having one of those harbor freight, precision swinging press's handy. A fine adjustment tool. Nut and bolt, swing the cylinder out of the way? My concern, are cardboard guests strong enough? No safety crocks, Mike will be soooo disappointed.😂😂 You could really use a seat on the triple nikel. 😂 You kinda remind me of every kid that ever wanted to drive grandpa's car, having a hard time seeing out the window? 😁😁😂😂😂😂 New back tires would greatly help with the mobility, filled with whatever they fill them with, would help counter weight. Trust me, I stayed at a Holiday inn express once, and just had my first monster energy drink this morning. 😁😁😂😂 I have a plethora of knowledge just begging to get out, and no one once to listen to me and my you tube knowledge. So, here I be. 😁😁😁😁😁😂😂😂😂😂😂👍👍👊👊👊👊
If you look at disks plows, check out the way the hoses are suspended up by a round rod that bolts on and has a curl at the top of it! Might be a good idea to keep the hoses out of the way! Just trying to help out my friend! Just something I thought of from my past days working for the farmers!🤷🏼👌🏻
The Repair, Test, and Break program is actually the most effective method out there.👌 Some may say it's not the most efficient, but both words start with E. 🤷 The 555 UniMog you are building sure gets a lot done!🤙
I was thinking the exact same thing just before you mentioned how essential the propane powered welder is to your operation. Without it so much of what you’ve accomplished so far would have been a little more difficult to do.
Mike impressive work on the grappler, I believe after a few hiccups you will have that tuned the way you want.great video, great job.just keep doing what you do best.be safe 👍👍👍😎😎😎
The Kleeman Khronikles continue....there's that employee who works really really fast....keep him on the payroll and pay him by the hour....I'd like to nominate him for Employee of the Month at Kleeman World Enterprises. And what a channel, you'll see yacht building, lawnmower repair, truck manufacturing, how to abuse and repair motorized machinery.....you can't get that kind of entertainment just anywhere Bud. Nope, it's a regular smorgasbord of eclectic and fun content here on the Admiral's First Mate's channel. As always, great channel, great content.
Trauma shears, my favorite tool around the house. Can never have too many pairs of them - they seem to randomly disappear. Hope you're doing well Mike!
@ 4:23 noticed the tarp on the dump truck build, I know you like to recycle and reuse, since you are in Evansville all the time for your job, find an outdoor advertising company BECAUSE the printed vinyl cover they use on billboards now make the best tarps and covers for log piles you can find / another trick I have used in the past is concrete testing facilities have the left over cylinders that they stress test they give away and they make great curbing on driveways, walks and landscaping and can be stacked at the transitions around your bridge projects and to stabilize intakes and outtakes of driveway culverts
Owned a brush grapple for use with a Takeuchi. The cylinder guard meta is too thin...1/4" iron would be preferable. Hydraulic hoses are just a pain no matter how you route them. Based on it's construction, your grapple was built for light weight applications, brush, small limbs, etc. Your gusset addition should strengthen the closing jaw.
When I first started watching your channel, I was a little puzzled by your choice of stick welding. The fact that your engine driven one is also a generator makes sense for your situation, but the whole world seems to be doing the "trendy" thing of wire welding now. Well, since then, another TH-camr, "Making Mistakes with Greg" has opened my eyes to things like root penetration and weld strength, and stick seems the way to get more of that. Flux core is better than MIG, but MIG is the worst for root penetration. Stick is a little harder to learn, but worth the pain. Now I wish I had a good stick welder!
That's part of it, but mig can be plenty strong if done right. The main reason is most of my welding is down outside. mig requires shielding gas, the wind can greatly affect the quality of the weld.
Mike love your videos and you have greatly improved in you welding but a great video would be to get Arron to come by it would only cost you a couple of 6 packs.
another great low cost find adding more equipment to your stock for the 555 C&C have gave you a freebie that has made you more efficient in your welding/fabrication skills well done
That was a tease ….taking us to the Rock Bridge but didn’t even let us see it. We know that YOU got to see it! My only guess is that she wasn’t presentable for company and the time available didn’t allow for getting that addressed. Oh well, next time. The grapple looked infinitely more potent and if it doesn’t somehow break, something else will as you go further into unchartered territory (for you/your place/your machinery). I liked all the improvements especially the curved gussets…could become a stylistic statement for others to follow.
Sometimes it's good practice to drill holes at the ends of the cracks. You may need to scab on reinforcing plates since the metal is likely fatigued past the area of the crack.
I'm curious. Couldn't you fill your bucket with a big load of rocks, or iron/steel, and use that as a counterweight for using the grapple? Is that even possible? Don't own a backhoe; don't drive a backhoe; just fairly proficient at watching TH-cam videos. But I watch all of yours. And Like, Comment, and Subscribed, 😁
Before you get the new hoses look at the length of the pipes you have as the shorter 1 may be ok for the longer position?? Then you just need 2 new short ones 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍
Not sure why I’m watching since you started a Patreon….oh yeah, it’s cause I enjoy your content!!!
Appreciate the support!

HA! Watching that bottle jack made me safety squint.
Thanks for the great video.
Leaving the original curve from the steel you cut the gussets from actually makes it look factory.
That, and a few coats of paint 😊
Capt'n, your resourceful 'can-do' attitude is totally inspiring - and your self-deprecating humour is a killer! 😎😂
💪
That grapple was definitely a good buy, now you've got the extra capacity to use more attachments, you could like DP make your own tree limb cutting attachment. 👍
Great repair work, Mike! Moving that big rock is impressive!
💪
I love the sounds of your 555 👍 Great video as always, really cheered me up Mike. Keep at it, best wishes from Britain 👍👍🇺🇸🇬🇧

I think this will work alright, maybe a few more gussets, my biggest hang up is weather or not to leave that cutting edge as is or weld teeth on it
@@CaptainKleemanI left my cutting edge but the bottom runners extend out past the cutting edge. Basically the cutting edge is flat on the bottom but has teeth parallel with the ground. “Jack of all trades, master of none” 😉 I know you understand my point
Cut the cutting edge around the bottom runners making teeth.
Good job Mike she’s going to work a lot better. Think you rescued it before she broke completely.👍👍

Great job Mike. Your grapple improvement is not only functional but it looks good too. Being able to lift and move that large rock was amazing.
Captain another awesome repair! You never cease to amaze me! Thanks for sharing! Kevin
WOW, impressive it could pick up that rock. Great short sweet video as always! Keep on keeping on my man.
Thanks for watching
Yet another example of good self help and ingenuity great video👍🔧🇺🇸

Get some tubing to bring the connection to the end of the cylinder? Great Show thankyou!!!!
A welder, grinder and paint makes you a repair worker saint.😅
Cap’n, You have a bonafide boulder holder now.
The sky’s the limit! (Or, it will be when you weld a jib pole to the front of that grapple!)
That is what I was thinking, Jib Pole and spring hangers.
Mike could you rig up what they call a pogo stick on the top middle of the grapple with heavy springs to hold the hydraulic lines toward the middle of the grapple..?
That's the goal, appreciate ya watching
Great job on the repairs looks good and strong well done
Well, that was impressive. That's one serious rock; the 555 and graple made it look easy, no drama.

Mike that was some pretty good backyard fabrication and repairs, enjoyed the video 👍🏻

Hi Mike & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool & Thanks Mike & Friends Randy
👍 I agree, as much as I abhor welding, DIY saves tons of cash and it's just something that has to be done for the repairs strength. Nice job.
Great job Mike seems to work well now great video thanks
You are a good man Mike! Keep up the good work, it fits you well!
Mike you are doing absolutely awesome job.
Agree, welder and grinder wheel can do so much!
Love your wit Mike. Toss these in the woods and we will work it, till we need to wield it. CK motto.
Mike you really can’t go wrong with a $200 grapple sir I can see it will be a game changer nice lookin welds too good job 🍻💪💪👍👍
Thanks!
Awesome, great job, always a pleasure follow your project and your modification, thank you for sharing 👍👍👍👍

Nice looking repair on the grapple! Has motivated me to straighten the tines on mine.
Glad yo got a needle scaler! makes cleaning those tight welds a summer breeze
Definitely a time saver!
You really got to grips with your grapple..... and grappled with the metal to make it work for you 💪💪💪
💪
I was trying to think why no propane would stop you welding, then remembered your welder generator is running on propane :)
Morning Mike
Had the idea, that maybe you and DP, could split the cost of a hydraulic hose crimper. Just a thought.
Heat and beat brother!
💪

You are definitely getting plenty of welding practice. Your welds are looking better Mike!
Welding-up the rock grapple to save the day. Sail on.....!🚜
Good morning Mike!
Good morning!
A lot of fellows would bevel out the cracks, weld it 7018, grind flat, then plate over it.
A lot of fellas be wasting time
Great video, thanks!

NASCAR looking over the video to see if they can use you in the pits!! Nice work Mike 🤗🇺🇸

good stuff ..."maybe some repair videos too!" maybe? ...look forward to them.

That's right lol
Have a great vacation!
Amazing Mike!!
You seemed to fix the grapple up pretty good Mike👍👍😎😎🍮🍮
Thanks!
I think you need a new seat in the 555. You look tiny in that thing, like a kid driving dad’s equipment. 😀
Working on it

I enjoyed your video as always

I’m curious, what you sitting on in the 555? It looks like you’re on a bucket. Kinda low rider vibe.
That’s a great video Mike💪🏼💪🏼
Thanks!
