Looks good, I think people preferred these cos the bag change was easier and cleaner but I agree they aren’t as robust as the trad version, I remember my auntie having the brown cleaner and it was always the bodywork breaking not the motor 👍

It's interesting what you said about how robust they weren't (!) - I don't have one of these but have used one (not the Royal Warrant edition) and I remember not enjoying it because I was scared it was going to break as it felt so flimsy when I pushed it forward then pulled it back, as though the handle was going to break. Yours does look great, btw.

There always seems to be an alarming amount of flex if the plastic when in use!

@@TheVintageApplianceEmporium Yes, I think I put it back quite quickly & got a Turbomaster out (as I didn't want to break one of my friend's machines on my first visit!), not realising quite how heavy and difficult to move the TM would be! I think I'll go back to me Sebo, I'm a vacuum cleaner snowflake! ;-)

Starlight and junior deluxe definitely looked more modern than there replacement.

I presume the high power compact ran until the Turbopower 1 came out in 1983? You can see how the evolution went with the hard box on this machine, to the design of the TP1. Some have said the TP1 replaced the Junior Deluxe, but that couldnt have been the case is the Junior Deluxe was discontinued in 1980. When you think about it, the main floorhead of this machine was just a warmed over 1346A, in turn a warmed over 1334A, so the basic design was one from the late 1950s, meaning by the time it was completely discontinued in the mid 80s, it was practically 30 years old in design. Hardly "modern" if thats what Hoover were trying to portray in 1981. Speaking of short runs, whilst the special edition royal warrant model only ran for 6 months, I think thats all the original model 1346 with the pumpkin front ran for, in early to mid 1967, after which, later in 1967 the remainder of the 1346 run reverted to the same brown faceplate and bag, until it was replaced by the 1346A in 1970.

That's a really good point re the pumpkin 1346 I hadn't even thought of that. Two of Hoover's rarest cleaners right there - the pumpkin 1346 and the Royal Warrant U2128. I'm very lucky to have both in the collection

@@TheVintageApplianceEmporium Yeah, I have a 1346 phase 1 pumpkin front myself. I never realised at the time I got it how rare they actually are - it was going for a fiver not that far from me, and was in immaculate condition too, with everything original even the cable. Whilst I dont have anywhere near as many vacuums as you, and I dont really collect any more as I ran out of space ages back, my 1346 from March 1967 will be one of the machines I never sell - I love the 1346 design - it was the machine my grandparents had when I was young, back in the late 70s, although theres was the navy blue 1346A. I'm pleased you have the phase 1 1346 - there was a set in that colour scheme, of the Convertible, suitcase vac, and 1346, all from the late 60s - I loved the chocolate and pumpkin colourway, very cool.
