This is an incredibly helpful tutorial to learn the hardest Metroid techniques. I've watched over a dozen by now as I've been replaying Super Metroid and now Metroid Super Zero Mission and I've never been able to master those techniques - Until I watched yours: I can finally do a mockball! Same goes for the short shinespark - it seemed impossible in other tutorials but watching yours I had it in no time including the super short shinespark (I honestly find it kind of easier for some reason). Hats off and salute to you for this amazing tutorial.
That hack thing at the end is basically how Shinesparking works in Metroid Zero Mission. Dashing at a slope will cause you to start running again. There is even a power up in that game that requires you to do that through several rooms storing spark and dashing against another slope to save spark again and again.
Thanks for the move set in Super Metroid, I would not be able to perform any of these on my own. Thanks to your videos I was able to perform a few certain difficult ones and it definitely helped for sure.
great tutorial, this helped me finally nail the mockball! i'm playing super zero mission and having a lot of trouble with the shinesparking though. continuous boost running on slopes is triggering inconsistently, and about half the time samus just randomly skips the "getting set" animation altogether and goes directly into a boost jump, which is making it impossible to properly time some of the tighter booster puzzles. as far as i can tell i'm landing the inputs properly every time. any idea what i might be doing wrong, or is my rom bugged or something?
I'm still struggling with the continuous shine spark and reactivating it on slopes. Not easy at all. In total agreement though that the tutorial was awesome and helped me learn the mockball too.
@@zay2k539 I guess you mean the rocket tank that unly can be reached by a Shinespark from below? I was lucky enough to manage to perform that today. You don't need to run through a door, but you need to be able to short charge. And not from the very ground level, but from one door area above, since there you can use the "normal" short charge. Then you just have to pray and jump with insanely precise timing. It's said to be the hardest to obtain item in the game for a reason.
@@Justforvisit thank you so much man, I already figured it out but that is something I wouldn’t have ever figured out without a guide. Super Metroid really does have some weird precise stuff with the controls sometimes.
@@Justforvisit I saw someone do that in a walkthrough and actually got it like a year ago. I'm doing a playthrough with my son now and can't get it again. 😅
The tutorial was good and very informative but the background music is just not it, if I can tell you something that would be to have better background music next time
Sure, the intro music was tinny and 8-bit... but that's not the point of the video. What a petty thing to say after the author provided such a helpful and detailed tutorial.
Some of these hacks are unnecessarily convoluted. The inputs necessary to do some of these moves are ridiculous. I'm starting to understand why it took 19 years to come up with the next 2D Metroid and why the games after Super Metroid are all so obscure. So basically, some of these hacks take the most useless parts of Metroid and base entire games around being able to do these moves. I think if I met some of these DEVS, I'd kick em,... SQUARE in the ROUNDS. I'm playing Zero Mission for the first time and seeing how obnoxiously frustrating it is, it's no wonder why these games aren't very mainstream at all. I always find myself defending Metroid as it is the BEST Nintendo game ever created, having an entire genre of games named after it,... However, after playing through some of these hacks, I see why, games that are completely wack in my humble opinion, like Zelda and Super Mario Bros., do so much better with sales. I think I own EVERY hack ever made. Phazon, Ascent and Hyper Metroid being my favorites, so far. They seem to have a great flow to them. On the other hand, Zero Mission, with all the convoluted moves needed to get basic items, it just doesn't have any flow to it. It seems like all this stuff was added just for the sake of having it in the game. I hate it. It's my least favorite thus far. I'm guessing after attempting ZM, SM IMPOSSIBLE is probably going to be the first cartridge that I place on my anvil and BASH into pieces. (I'm already feeling that way about ZM). So, I will watch these tutorials for shine sparking and mock balling in the hopes that I won't have to. I'm using my Switch Pro Controller. Not sure if that makes a difference. I've gotten pretty rough with the thing and quite surprised it still works. I have gotten so frustrated with this game I've twisted the controller with all my might, and it didn't budge. (can't say the same for the useless Xbox controllers that break if you look at them wrong,... Yeah, even the $175 pro controller)
