      Just ordered a pair of the Lexin G16 comm boxset. Had a Cardo G4 and current fitted SENA J-Cruise but 99% of the time, I talk to myself.

      I did have a EJEAS E6 in my helmet and V6+ in my friend's helmet (between 30-40$ each). The intercom is ok with a range about 400-500m. But the speaker is treble only, no bass at all. So if you want to use these cheapo for music, definitely no. No problem with phone connection.
      Upgraded to edge and of course it's worth it!

    Very in depth comparison, I enjoyed it much!
    I was pleasantly surprised of your speaker test, providing accurate loudness and sound quality samples to compare.
    What i would have liked in addition, was a test of bluetooth compatibility and quality with third party devices, for example with a second independent bluetooth headset.
    I would also be interested in a sound comparison between the old Packtalk Bold and the Edge, maybe even only between the speakers.
    Maybe its worth it, to upgrade these or build them into a Sena (for example, the old cardo jbl speakers sound very good with the sena 30k connected)

    my father and I have multiple sets of Cardo and all had the same issue when riding by two, it gets choppy and disconnects around 200-400 especially when there's obstruction like a car or two. we havent tried in big group but I'd say the price isnt worth it if the covered distance for two is just about 300m for clear comms. your review made us realize that it wasnt just us and it really is a Cardo Packtalk Edge issue. nice vid! 👍

  • @dungbeetle.
    @dungbeetle. ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Thanks for the review. I would have liked to see how easy they are to pair up with other units in a group and then how they 'heal' the connection after someone has lost connection and then needs to rejoin the group. I've heard that the Cardo is much better in this respect.

    I just got the Edge because one of my riding buddies uses Cardo (the rest use Sena). Anyway... initial impressions are very positive relative to my 50s, most apparent is the volume difference. I ride with earplugs and at highway speeds I need to have the 50s at full volume to hear anything and the experience is not great. With the Edge I have volume a bit above medium and I can hear better than the 50s at full. Using good earplugs I can eliminate most wind/road noise and have nice clear audio... that alone gives the Cardo unit a huge "Edge" over the 50s for me.
    Your observations on range are in line with what I see... couple hundred meters in general. It's also VERY dependent on surroundings... can go quite a bit further sometimes but also a lot less.
    Other comments - buttons are similar on both units (they're all a bit small for gloves) but the 50s uses the volume disk as a button and that works great. The volume disk on the Sena is also a bit easier to use compared to the small edge wheel.
    Also... very well done video, great content and entertaining presentation.

    To help u guys out. I had a hard time choosing between sena and packtalk..read for hours in diff forums and groups and it was almost like 50% liked one and 50% the other. So I just decided to go for the packtalk edge. And I couldnt be happier. Super clear sound when talking to my buddy. The range is way more then enough. We both use hearing protection that let some sound through and the volume for both the music and communication is still good. The voice commands works perfectly to change music, answer calls, lower or raise volume etc..Saying "go google" and then "call" whoever I want works great. The phonecall sound is as clear as it can be. No one can hear that Im doing 120km/h talking inside my helmet. They thought I was talking on my phone in my living room. When it comes to the battery, a 3 hour ride with a full battery leaves me with 70% battery left. And thats 3 hours riding with much talking and with music on at all time. The music automatically lowers the volume when my buddy starts talking. I can change the volume of both his talking sound vs the music however I want in the cardo app.
    The only downside Ive found has nothing to do with the intercom but comes down to that I have to find a better spot in the helmet for the speakers since they put pressure on my ears. Other then that..excellent product and I wish Id bought them sooner. Riding is alot more fun now when we can talk to each other.

    I would like to see a mesh comparison. I ride with groups of 5 or 6. We come in and out or range and change positions in the group. The older bluetooth connects has trouble with this. Are the Cardo and Sena equal with group mesh connecting and reconnecting?

    • @PanRider939

      It’s the point of mesh, it’s just 2.4ghz wifi you come and go as you please. Bluetooth you have to daisy chain is a pain to setup and if the middle rider drops out the chain is broken, it doesn’t self connect.

    Great review. Question about the strength of the cardo mount. You had 10 kilo of force perpendicular to the helmet. But what I really want to know is shear strength. That is the reliability of the cardo magnetic mount if a bird hit the side of the helmet. How will it stand up to a blow from the side. Which is more likely.
    For example. What if it was brushed by my hand lowering a visor?

    • @tri333ple
      @tri333ple  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is a catch holding the cardo in place. So to release it you would actually have to press the catch and push the unit forward. In theory the direction of the impact should not cause the cardo to dislodge

    Sena is not waterproof/resistant. (I believe their 50S is also not?) I had both the Sena 20S and 30K and both Sena's stopped working due to rain. The Sena 20S stopped working in a light drizzle, but would resume working during dry weather. The 30K is dead more than a year ago after riding my FIRST downpour with it. The rain lasted a mere 20 minutes.
    Not so with my Cardo EDGE. It still works in 4 drives of pouring rain + 1 drizzle. Plus, and THIS is the biggest difference: the EDGE’s voice activation is far superior to Sena's. Absolutely zero doubt about that. I gave up shouting to BOTH my Sena units to make it work consistently via voice commands.
    Cardo Edge voice activation works for me even on 120km/h+ highways, with the usual bike/wind/road noises at that speed! Simply put; I won't go back to Sena's products.
    I will tuck my 2 Sena's away permanently in a dark cupboard in the house, safe from any harm from rain.... Cardo EDGE has convinced me to ditch Sena altogether after 5 years usage.

    sena needs to raise the volume to get the same loudness level as cardo at a lower volume.
    for a single end user, connected to phone via bluetooth and speaking to members via discord or other chat programs via phone data using bluetooth.... distance doesnt matter.

    In the range test you had a recording cell phone operating very close to the receiving Cardo/Sena which Im sure caused some interference and reduced your range. You also didn't say whether you used Bluetooth or mesh connection.

    • @tri333ple
      @tri333ple  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! We used mesh for both headsets. You are right, there will be interference affecting range for sure but both are tested with a cell phone operating very close. We're actually looking at the difference in performance between the two under the same circumstances

      @@davemcfadzien2435 we were all pretty taken aback by the 3-400m results (maybe because we were near the airport, and the reported range should be with multiple units connected) But having used both in our day to day riding they are actually both very useful for group long distance riding and we didnt really come across any major issues where it would affect the whole group riding experience, Would still be one of our #1 accessory for touring 😃 still if you can best to try it out and then decide!

    I want to comment here about the reviews that you conducted.
    RANGE:
    Cardo - On 400meters the cardo totally disconnected but before 400meters the audio is not audible not sure if it's 200meters or 300meters
    SENA - On SENA, on the video it's not show how far before it's totally disconnected
    **And the other thing they didn't tell what connection they used? If it's MESH or Bluetooth.
    hopefully this will be clear on next reviews because this is important.

    I like the Cardo but having years of experience with riding with intercoms audio quality is out the window when you start to ride, wind noise from your helmet keeps you from hearing settle differences in audio quality. I ride with earplugs and volume way up and you get better audio sound which keeps the wind noise at a lower note. You understand conversations at freeway speeds otherwise wind noise will drown out of your conversations.

    Fantastic review gentlemen, it helps push me over the edge to buy what I had planned to buy, the Cardo Edge.
    My Shoie Air II has a previous generation Sena SRL unit in it, it's not great. Is the app and pairing any better with the Cardo brand of coms historically? Sena has a ton of apps in the app store so it's tough to know which to pick, and I have to use an old computer with the first generation USB port on the computer end (white, not black or blue inside the port) to update the firmware on it, that is micro USB into the helmet. Seriously... I could not update the firmware from my newer PC with more modern USB ports, it wouldn't work. Again, previous generation Sena, I hope for the owners of this brand of communicators that the software, firmware updates, customer service, etc, are better.
    USB C on both of these? Over the air updates on both?
