- After three hours of nerding out over an excel sheet, I put together the costs of taking a travel nurse contract in Alaska with a family of 5. While we didn't quite break even, this was the trip of a lifetime and we have zero regrets. We'll break down what we spent over 16 weeks for food, fuel, lodging, repairs and excursions starting from the moment we crossed the Canadian Border to when we made the return back to the lower 48.
