Exactly, I wonder why this interview had to invite a person(not sure if it's real professor), who clearly can't distinguish Taiwan from china, when the host was asking about Taiwan, this old man mentioned nothing about Taiwan but other countries... It's a pity that this news was ruined by this so-called professor.

It is clear that Singapore is pro China, and such political bias comprises medical professionalism. As a conclusion, he is not a qualified professor, interviewing him is a waste of time for he did not give relevant answers to the questions asked by the interviewer.

I live in Taiwan. Taiwanese still remember the danger of the first SARS back in 2003/2004. When the news broke out that there was a new strain of Sars II, not only the government reacted very fast but also most people. They stocked up themselves with facial masks and disinfection 75% alcohol. In late January, there were no masks nor cleansing alcohol to be found. They were all sold out. As the matter of fact, Taiwanese already got masks before the government announced wearing facial masks was mandatory.
They obeyed the government easily, simply because they know the danger and had experienced it once.

The professor in Singapore seems to be confused. Taiwan doesn't have lockdown. Instead it quarantines and detects the infected incoming travelers. Most of Taiwan's economy functions very much like before. The touridt business and restaurants are affected. But they are still much better than the rest of the world.
So far the country that performs lockdown most seriously (to the degree of horror) is China. The government goes to houses or buildings and nail the doors. Many Chinese die not from covid-19, but from unable to access medical help for other diseases because they simply can't get out of their doors.

Regarding the professor in the video, the interviewer asked "what can we learn from Taiwan's experience". Then he replied with lockdowns that Taiwan never has, and how the lockdowns hurt people. Maybe the professor is not confused. But his words is confusing to me.
The scientist Alina Chan from Singapore said something rather good: scientists should not censor ourselves. If we censor ourselves, we'll create a pandemic of doubts. And that hurts all of us (all people, not just scientists).

Taiwan tend to be very suspicious of the Chinese Communist Party.
Some of Australia's initial success was due to taking the virus very seriously due to similar suspicions of the CCP's statements. The later major outbreak in Victoria was after the virus escaped the hotel quarantine system, but it's now under control with no more community transmission.

Yes, what I would like to know is how Taiwan can be confident they have contained Covid19 when most cases these days are asymptomatic, which means that unless you test widely, you cannot be certain there is no community spread. Few people know that Taiwan has one of the lowest testing rates for Covid19 in the world at 4,430 tests per million people (Compare HK 499,222; NZ 235,818; Vietnam 13,715 and Singapore 693,124 (which is among the highest testing rates in the world)). Basically, if you test little, you will find comfortingly few confirmed cases, but the virus could be spreading UNdetected in your community. Also, if you only focus on looking for hospitalisations (ie symptomatic cases), you will miss out the 90% of cases that are asymptomatic but capable of infecting others. Taiwan has certainly bucked the trend in testing little yet claiming to have contained Covid19. Time will tell whether this is indeed true. Update: 6 months later, and I’m sorry to be proven right. Cases WERE spreading undetected in the community and they now have a bigger outbreak than last year with a mortality rate of 2%. Hope they bring this under control soon. Good luck Taiwan.

    • @tituschiu

@@anchored555 Were there asymptomatic cases in Taiwanese communities, the disease would definitely have spread and symptomatic cases be detected in hospitals. It can't be all asymptomatic. • @heavenasura
      @heavenasura 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@@anchored555 Yes , actually you are right about it - the asymptomatics still have chances to cause infections , however , you've just missed one thing - " with the lowest testing rate , yet no break out has happened in this crowded country , why is that ? " While covid-19 has just getting busted , the Taiwanese government reacted really quick , like 14 days quarantine for whoever enters from abroad , tracing thoroughly about every infected case , requirement for wearing mask in public .... etc , every single move they've made has accumulated as a firewall which reduces the possibilities of getting infected by the asymptomatics , and then it came to a result which most of epidemiologists would agree -" If there is no sign of pandemic in this area , how come the health care resources should be put on doing massive tests ? " Of course , this could change in the future for lots of reasons , but hey ~ they're doing great so far , aren't they ? if you still don't come around , just think back to when Ebola was found in Texas , did people conduct full-scale test in America ? No , because it ain't an often-seen disease in this country ! Will you ask others how americans were so sure that Ebola has been under control at that time ? I assume not , cuz no proof indicated that the virus got popular there after several months of observation ! Hope my answer can relieve your concern a lil' bit , peace !

My friend, who is a Taiwanese citizen, told me that everyone (citizen or non-citizen) permitted by the Taiwanese government to enter, has to go through quarantine (for 2 weeks, if I remember correctly). They actually keep track of people who are in quarantine. So it sounds like the Taiwanese government has been stopping the virus from getting into the general population.

And the government strictly and caringly did the 14 days quarantine methods that have been giving people punishment and award with money.

I am living in Taiwan, my view is the Government has control the Limited Resources in the very first beginning of the pandemic , and rapidly lockdown the borders to stop spreading. The Resources not like other countries considered as health care systems approach collapse, but Resources as 3 "quarantine concentration camps", enlarge PCR test capacity Nation Wide, deployed all the possible administration resources for contact tracing, Epidemics Act for compensation & penalty. For example, in March 27 there were 1 University student had COVID-19, the contact tracing for this particular cases in campus has 732 persons should under 2 weeks quarantined and testing, the administration manpower for contact tracing is far beyond that. The Government and private PCR test laboratories was working day and night, they were all exhausted. Finally the ball didn't over the hills, till Nov.11 we have 585 cases 55 was Domestic infection , the pandemic got controlled. I am wondering if a country has ever 100 thousand peoples get infected per day, how the "Resources" of contact tracing' testing and quarantine be possible? For your understanding.

To visit how to fight the Wuhan virus, of course, that is to directly find Taiwanese experts with the world's most successful model. Experts from countries that have not been effective in fighting the Wuhan virus are talking about how to fight the Wuhan virus. Just as WHO did not allow Taiwan, which had the best effect in fighting the Wuhan virus, to join the organization and lead the world to prevent the epidemic. As a result, the Wuhan virus spread all over the world. Such a useless and incompetent international organization is very ridiculous!
Taiwan's health insurance index ranks first in the world, and the prevention of the Wuhan virus is also a model in the world. Since the WHO International Organization did not allow Taiwan to join the organization, it squeezed out Taiwan, an excellent model student.

Taiwan has NEVER done the massive testing as there is no pandemic in Taiwan. The massive testing is no need in Taiwan.

Thanks for covering Taiwans response, very appreciated!
But would western media mind not saying us obedient again?
It's lesson learned from SARS, nothing to do with obedience.
We, people paid the price and learnd, please don't describe us as we done nothing but listen to what's told.
Do you even listen and do what ever your parents asked?
The reason why we follow the prevention measures, it's because we understand the need. And we know it's the experts leading the whole process rather than politicians who knows nothing about a virus. And our experts showed us that they totally know what they are doing, so we gave the trust and follow. That's cooperation to get a win-win.
