UPDATE: JSW MG Motor India has launched the MG Windsor at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) - however, this does not include the battery rental cost of Rs 3.5 per km. What do you think of this strategy? READ MORE: www.autocarindia.com/car-news/mg-windsor-launched-at-rs-999-lakh-without-battery-432818 Additional variant prices yet to be revealed.
running cost is still high for this , it should come down at 1rs-2rs/km. MG should have worked on it ."BAAS" its a long term opportunity . also Charging stations infra and service are major hurdle for people.
Ky he mtlb 3.5 rupees per km for battery + 1 rupees per Km for charging total aprox 4.5 to 5 rupee per km And my IC car give 20km per ltr = aprox 5 rupees per Km Its almost same in cost But extra risk of long run battery discharge in highway
Until other companies bring out locally manufactured EVs that are as practical and affordable as the Tatas, Tata will continue to dominate the EV scene. EV manufacturers need to keep in mind what Indian buyers typically look for.
Autocar needs to make an awareness video on how to make us Indians to respect traffic rules and tolerance for other road users and pedestrians. I would like to see what difference does a medium of such a respectable cadre do to the driving habits of Aam Aadmi & Richdoms. Atleast this needs to be discussed in the podcast by moguls like Hormazd & team.
Having experienced this car firsthand during my visit to Indonesia, I must say that the back seat offers an exceptionally comfortable experience. The overall design language is minimalistic and highly functional, which I believe significantly simplifies the manufacturing process. This approach avoids the pitfalls of overcomplicating both the interior and exterior design, making it a practical and efficient choice.
Owning an XUV400 39.4 kWh model, I can say that 38 kWh battery won’t even give 250 kms of range in traffic jams of Delhi Gurgaon even if any youtuber or showroom guy tries to sell you the 360 kms range. We need atleast 55-60 kwh battery packs to have a decent city and highway range without range anxiety.
Every one will have their piece of pie.. Maruti suzuki 800, Daewoo matiz.. Similar scenario.. There are loyal customers for each brand, depends on the company after sales service, customer retention index, strong service network and availability of spare parts etc.. Lots of other aspects. TATA's are really doing a wonderful job from trucks to cars, their commitment to sustainability, pricing etc...
I love the massive rear leg room, most manufacturers of cars in its class seem to not bother with the second row as compared to the front. I also dig those retro contours on the seats.
I wish MG should also think of providing this Car with ICE because everyone does not need an EV and the kind of space it provides will definitely make it a most sought after Car. ICE in this type of Car can boost sales of MG phenomenally.
This car is built ground up as an EV on a skateboard (google it) platform. Hence the space. It would not be possible to convert it into a an ICE car without sacrificing much of the space, esp. up front. So not gonna happen. On the other hand cars like the MG ZS EV (aka the Astor) are basically ICE cars that have been modified to convert them to EV. This is why the ZS EV is more cramped than the Astor, as the batteries take up the floor space.
I think my family will fall in love with this car, only question is 3 people in rear seat will be comfortable? And will the range justify the price tag?
Range, Time taken to charge, Battery Warranty and Price are all going to be key for it to succeed here in India. Plus, would they be sensible enough to have more Vents on the rear A.C?
It can remind you of many cars, but ultimately it is available in India with bang offerings no brands would dare to offer such features and convenient to the customers.
Tata is running too late on the Avinya platform. They are still extending the 16 year old Vista platform for the Curvv when the Altroz platform is *right there*! I wonder how the Nexon will be able to compete with a Born EV...
They’re thinking of hiring you 😂. They’re knowing what they’re doing. Their EVs are getting launched almost every year and they have a dedicated EV platform which some propagandists call Indica platform.
Indians will look for range 38kwh will hardly cross 300 kms, second thing people would look for is ground clearance, which seems less here. If these two concerns are not addressed, this car will find tough to compete.
I wish they would launch a longer wheelbase version with 6 (2 middle row bucket seats) or 7 seats and a bigger battery. I also wish it's a rear wheel drive. Such a variant would challenge Toyota Innova effectively
Exactly what I thought looking at the A pillar. Amazing how Honda managed that on an ICE platform and also amazing that they couldn't translate that on to an EV platform in 20 years.
I feel MG must keep 5things in consideration. 1) It deserves a 3rd row... No-one goes off-roading and and long touring with an ev, thus one needs a 3rd row rather than such a humongous bootspace. 2) as its not a SUV, rather a MPV lookalike CUV, it deserves a spacious 6-7 seats as well. A 5 seat MPV doesn't make any sense isn't it? 3) very less percentage of indians are geeky regarding automobiles. So MG pls provide less tech but a good range at an affordable price. Eg a 7inch touch screen is completely fine, a small sunroof is completely fine, manual elements are completely fine provided it costs 3-4lakhs less keeping range and battery unaffected. 4) People buy EV for having lesser impact on pocket for a long run. So when Finance is the factor, EVs priced at 20Lakhs plus makes no sense. For eg- ioniq 5, it costs 50lakhs. If my priority is looks I'll buy a scorpio n for 20lakhs and still have 30Lakhs for fuel and have no range anxiety. If my priority is brand I'll buy Merc for 40lakhs and still have 10lakh for fuel. If i want extra space I'll buy innova and still have 20lakhs remaining for fuel. Makes sense, why ioniq 5 doesn't even sell well. Price is thereby one and only factor that makes it, "aar ya paar" 5) MG should realise they've got only one competition so far, TATA. So they need to place it at par with PUNCH EV, pricing it as nexons competitor will never work. As nexon has SUVs look which Indians go gaga for. Design language of punch is not something people love, people buy it for its practicality. So Windsor should be made a competition for practicality oriented car. It will never beat nexon as it has a much superior styling.
Such beauty! I'm not sure if panaromic sunglass has much advantage in extreme weather conditions in India but it will add to the sales. I hope they bring the car with strong air conditioning unit suitable for Indian summers. The seats look FAB! ❤ If they could somehow bring ventilated seats (both front & rear), this would become a suitable car for people looking for comfortable 4 seater family car.
Mathematics of this car Price of similar size petrol car 15-17 lakhs . Base model price of this car on road 12 lakh. Average of petrol car 10 to12 km So per km cost 10 to 12 rs. Average of this car 3.5 km rental+3-3.5 km electricity=approx 7 rs per km Now u get electric car maintenance very low plus u will drive more. U also save on battery replacement charge after 5 to 7 years which will be approx 5 to7 lakhs. So u save 4-6 lakh in purchase of car. If u r driving 2000 km per month saving of 8 to 10 thousand per month. Yearly 1-1.2 lakhs Plus no tension of battery replacement
Cost, Mr. Hormazd mentioned in a podcast. Basically the government followed the 2 Indian carmakers demand to protect their sales and never incentivised practical low emission vehicles.
If this is priced right, it's coming home. Got twin girls and a shopaholic set of parents so a lot of stuff will get hauled in the back which the boot seems capable enough to handle. Hell, if I manage to convince my brother to hold off on the Elevate purchase, there could be two of em coming home.
tata Nexon feels crunched in terms of space at the back... this is great, mg knows how to take out mileage from small batteries... proven from comet and zs .. cute and practical car
Highly impressed with the overall Looks, Size & great Rear Seat Comfort. It looks much better than Ertiga, Carens, Curvv..... If priced well MG has an ACE on hand. Can cross 3 - 4, 000 units/month mark. Very Optimistic it will taste grand success for sure in the EV Segment. 😢 Is going to give run for the money to Tata EV's - Nexon & Curvv.
If MG wants people to buy windsor with a battery subscription plan, then in that case, they must make it free for 1 year, and the battery subscription plan should start from next year.

Does the price include rental of steering and seat belt? If so, we are happy. LOL
Thi.. this.. video was actually I was searching for ❤.. and you bought it bro thousands of likes to you and too autocar India ❤❤❤
Ky he mtlb 3.5 rupees per km for battery + 1 rupees per Km for charging total aprox 4.5 to 5 rupee per km
And my IC car give 20km per ltr = aprox 5 rupees per Km
Its almost same in cost
But extra risk of long run battery discharge in highway
In a country obsessed with macho SUVs, it would be an huge achievement if this car can break 1000 sales per month.
Well XL6 ertiga r selling more than SUVs but problem is this is put in segment of higher SUV segment. So PPL won't buy it at this price.
Bro it's EV. 1000 is a big number number of macho SUVs (EV)
Sorry it won’t cross 100/month.
For 10L this is a good
The design reminds me of Daewoo Matiz
The dimension is bigger and more advance I feel 😍😍
The biggest bummer would be if they only launch with a single 🔋 option of 38kWh. If they mean business they should launch the 50kWh under 18L.
They will never launch 50kWh under 18L. Atleast 20L in my opinion.
Utna nai hone wala. Prices would be similar to astor ev
38kwh for 20l 😂
Ekdam Sahi Baat
With our government taxes, the low adoption rate of evs, the company won't make any money.
I keep telling there isnt any serious competiton yet for tata in india for EV ! when it happens TATA will find it very hard to survive
That was said for Tata's ICE too, but still they are in the top 5 positions 😅, and some are best selling like Punch, Nexon 😊
indian model will have smaller battery. no comepetition for nexon bigger batteries
True....until the range around 700-800 km provided by the companies there is no competition....
Yes maruti is also coming up with their ev in 2025
Until other companies bring out locally manufactured EVs that are as practical and affordable as the Tatas, Tata will continue to dominate the EV scene. EV manufacturers need to keep in mind what Indian buyers typically look for.
Hopefully they launch the 50kWh variant. I was looking forward to buy it.
That would be equal to ZS EV, that MG doesn’t want.
4:20 tinted windows are very welcome
Autocar needs to make an awareness video on how to make us Indians to respect traffic rules and tolerance for other road users and pedestrians. Indian car owner are lunatics. They think that they own everything around their cars.... Egomaniaca
Important topic, but me thinks the autocar audience and the irresponsible drivers are disjoint sets with no overlap 😅

The overall design language is minimalistic and highly functional, which I believe significantly simplifies the manufacturing process. This car should sell very well. its a great package. The prices for the top model must not exceed 17 lakh ex showroom.
What if it is avaioable for 14 lakhs..
Compare this with thar. What components makes it expensive by 4 lakhs extra
I don't think top model will be below 20 lakhs if battery is above 50 kwh
@@fellowhuman4656what makes it any lesser than Thar for city commute?
0:06 The car that should have came instead of the Comet
0:09 MG Comet
0:12 MG Hector
0:15 MG Windsor
Won't lie but I really like the concept
Owning an XUV400 39.4 kWh model, I can say that 38 kWh battery won’t even give 250 kms of range in traffic jams of Delhi Gurgaon even if any youtuber or showroom guy tries to sell you the 360 kms range. What's the issue if drive control is on left with indicator stalks on the right. We intuitively use the right hand for indicators in India.
For chauffeur driven household, this looks like a brilliant proposition.
Mg is one of the most innovative brands with the most unique products.
If they launch it with 50 kWh battery pack and is priced under 18L, this is gonna eat Tata's market share. Decent car by all standards.❤
Actually comet is doing really well these days. Hopefully this will follow the trend if they undercut the nexon with pricing
I love the massive rear leg room, most manufacturers of cars in its class seem to not bother with the second row as compared to the front. I also dig those retro contours on the seats.
Tata slash price by 3 lakhs on tata Nexon ev ..well done MG ❤ competition make others to correct their prices ...
The front fascia reminds me of Laughing Buddha statue 😅
It’s an mpv. Then it’s a question of who wants it.
We want suv everything. And of course taxi market won’t get it as an ev
Range is the key here if it performs better then TATA then it has potential.
You went the extra mile to check out the Wuling Cloud EV, but alas missed out the Baujun Yep, which could've been a tiny fun 4x4 EV.
Nice one. Families k liye jkesi hogi?
I wish MG should also think of providing this Car with ICE because everyone does not need an EV and the kind of space it provides will definitely make it a most sought after Car. ICE in this type of Car can boost sales of MG phenomenally.

Loved the review Gavin - totally confused between Xuv 400 and this one
😂😂😂 really
no one buys XUV 400
Who buys Mahindra lol. It's mostly rubbish except bolero neo
Why aren’t they launching 50 kWh as it’s such competitive market here
I think my family will fall in love with this car, only question is 3 people in rear seat will be comfortable? And will the range justify the price tag?
Range, Time taken to charge, Battery Warranty and Price are all going to be key for it to succeed here in India. Plus, would they be sensible enough to have more Vents on the rear A.C?
When it came to ICE Cars Japanese Dominated with over more than 50% of Market Share in India. And when it comes to EV's I think China is gonna the one
How is the ground clearance?
Can wait for the India specific Windsor review 🤷♂️
This would be the perfect UBER or Bluesmart cab!!
Superb delivery bud...you have matured 🤘
This is going to be the most sort after car in India. India is going to just love it.
Hope so, need other brands to mainstream zero or low emission cars.
Gavin is all grown up
we need Wuling Yep 3door review please . Really helps with congested roads for people whose >99 percent driving is within 100 kms radius
Seat looks like very comfortable
Why does the front section remind me of fiat multipla?
It can remind you of many cars, but ultimately it is available in India with bang offerings
no brands would dare to offer such features and convenient to the customers.
At first look, it is a reincarnation of the 2010-2011 Honda Jazz.
Tata is running too late on the Avinya platform. They are still extending the 16 year old Vista platform for the Curvv when the Altroz platform is *right there*! I wonder how the Nexon will be able to compete with a Born EV...

What is the price of Wuling Cloud Ev base model at indonesia in indian rupees sir?
Good looks. Price kya h?
Superb car. Getting one for sure ❤
Let's see base price kya hoga
It's cool..but it's look like Honda Jazz..
Same feeling
That's why it's cool
Not a bad thing either
I miss the Honda Jazz.
Exactly what I thought looking at the A pillar. Amazing how Honda managed that on an ICE platform and also amazing that they couldn't translate that on to an EV platform in 20 years.
Impressed!
If you are still there then can you please test the Wuling Yep?
An ICE with hybrid options in similar model will sell good volumes.
How are you going to fit the engine in same space ?
I was thinking the same and I believe this can be a serious contender in the pseudo SUV category with an IC engine...
This thing has different dna. There are no switches even..
True, although it will require a bigger bonnet for the ICE. MG is said to introduce a PHEV next year.
Pricing will be the ultimate test for winning the game in India !!!
I feel MG must keep 5things in consideration.
1) It deserves a 3rd row... No-one goes off-roading and and long touring with an ev, thus one needs a 3rd row rather than such a humongous bootspace.

Windsor EV is going to give tough competition to other EVs
Safety rating is my only concern.

Nice review. You should have also reviewed its ADAS and park assist feature
What’s the NCAP?
I am really fed up seeing car makers only put downgraded half hearted variants their cars.
Seems like a great car....I am glad that MG is doing what other major players are lagging behind in.
Why are the brands not making more sensible India friendly Hybrids over Not so friendly EVs
tax discount on EVs in India and Chinese bands don't have good engines like Japanese brands anyways.
Hybrids have same tax rates as ICE cars. Govt not giving same benefits as EV tax rates
High GST for hybrids curtesy of Nitin Gadkari.
Bcs Tax on EV is 5% and on hybrid is 42 to 48%. Also Indian OEMs are lobbying against the hybrid.
Cost, Mr. Hormazd mentioned in a podcast. Basically the government followed the 2 Indian carmakers demand to protect their sales and never incentivised practical low emission vehicles.
I want one of these in Australia, i have the cash waiting. Ps, i love that its not an suv.😊
Been waiting since almost an year and looks like the wait is over. Hopefully comes in my budget
If this is priced right, it's coming home. Got twin girls and a shopaholic set of parents so a lot of stuff will get hauled in the back which the boot seems capable enough to handle. Hell, if I manage to convince my brother to hold off on the Elevate purchase, there could be two of em coming home.
10 lakh ex showroom
if we calculate with diesel vehicle, having 18km/l mileage running cost is slightly different with Windsor
Mini aircraft on road will sell in good numbers in metro cities of india
Range.?
If this launches in the bigger battery 🔋 version then I'll buy it for sure
Must say it's looking premium
Looks like first gen Jazz with magic seats !!
I just want to know how many speakers, subwoofer and the band of music system
That huge screen is not blocking the road view?
MG cars gives real word range as they claim not like tata ev's which claim 561km and gives only 350-400km range in real world conditions
No bro astor with 50kwh give 400km range but they claimed 461km 😅
Nice review Gavin 🥂
Adas available?
Every thing is ok . expect subscription plan of ₹3.5 instead of tat they can add extended warranty.
No physical buttons for climate controls is so impractical.
Indian version will have it.
Indian version will have it
Windsor will have them. Check out the teaser video
Unlike Comet, this time around I really hope MG tunes the suspension to deal with INDIAN roads.
That rear seat is epic! ❤
multipla?
How does it feel to drive with a TV
Yeah it's very cool but nice video
They launched it at 9.99 ex showroom
Too much aggressive pricing 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Tata is gone ☠️☠️☠️☠️
Useful review bro. Waiting for launch
I was in BALI since last 10 days and i saw this car as well as the COMET EV on BALI roads 😅😅
Why tata couldn't give this kind of door knobs on curvv? Why extra work?
tata Nexon feels crunched in terms of space at the back... this is great, mg knows how to take out mileage from small batteries... proven from comet and zs .. cute and practical car
It's lovely ❤ hope MG price it aggresivly🤞
Reclining... Am impressed over curvv
Is going to give run for the money to Tata EV's - Nexon & Curvv.
Pricing will be the key ..
lovely car lovely space
Hope it comes under budget
How a 4.2m long vehicle is a competitor to nexon? Shouldn’t this be competition to curvv ev?
It gives me the honda jazz vibes...hope it's a success here in india
Being a Jazz owner I can confirm that was the first thing that comes to my mind when I see Windsor every time.
I like this car, it seems practical and very polished
