Exactly, Texas scared me, if that could happen there, it could happen anywhere, I just purchased a 3600 watt unit that will be here Wednesday. But the panels I want 470 watts each cost a lot so I am buying two at a time over this year, hopefully I can get a lot of them by next winter just to be safe.
No this would not be a sustainable solution for my home. It is an excellent backup if the power goes down. To run my entire house sustainably through the night and then have enough power to run it during the day and charge my battery bank I would probably need a minimum of 3000 watts of solar on the roof, 500 amp hours of lithium iron phosphate batteries, a 3000 watt pure sun wave inverter and I would have to cut back on my power usage quite a bit. It really does take a huge system to run a house off grid but this is an amazing back up for power outages considering it's completely silent self-contained all in one and as portable. you really can't beat that for simplicity. in a pinch it will run any one part of my house just fine but if the fridge the water pump and several other things kicked on at once it would probably push me over the top of 2000 watts. This was a pretty dramatic test and I would never be running so many frivolous things if I was actually trying to live off grid using this unit. Just FYI. Thanks for the question and happy camping.
Hi, no knowledge at all but researching madly mind you camped for years with my family of 5 children! So this machine can run of batteries alone is this correct? For example 10 year lithium batteries ( hope I've got that right) my husband is on Pallative care and I'm trying to think long term as in war etc as I live 3 hours away from my kids and need to be self sufficient especially if fuel becomes an issue as well. We dont have a roof of solar panels but l will be fighting for this as well. I live basically in a small town 300 residents in Australiais . Hope to hear from you Barb aged 67
How did you get around the floating ground? I wanted to run my solar generator thru my surge protector. (Watchdog). With regular generator you can use the ground bonding plug. Do you know what I can do to make the watchdog happy? Thanks in advance

I know it's 2 years later but I have owned the safari ME with the expansion battery and 600 watts of solar panels for about 3 years now and I can say with complete confidence that it absolutely can run both for many years in fact mine has been running a deep freezer for the whole 3 years and it don't even begin to use up the power this thing puts out

What is the spec for how long the ME will be able to sustain the rated surge wattage? Is the ME compatible with other solar panels besides the Lion Energy 24v solar panels?
I do not believe you can connect to external batteries other than the expansion pack. You would probably just have to buy additional expansion packs to expand the battery capacity. I believe any solar panels would work as long as they're 24 volt panels in series. The sustainable wattage is 2000 Watts with a surge rating of 4000 Watts which would probably only run for a maximum of a couple seconds to get large motors for appliances going.

A little off topic, but related; I purchased a few UT 1300 batteries for my travel trailer and so far really like them. I'm trying to decide if going with the Safari ME with solar panels and expansion pack vs. Adding solar panels, inverter and Victron solar charge controller to the Lion Energy UT1300 batteries,(and all related cables, fuses and switches involved with adding solar to the trailer) would be a better option.
@@geraldtom3406 you would probably save money building your own system but some prefer a pre assembled option. The lion batteries need to be charged to 14.6 volts so make sure you get a charge controller that can be set to that voltage.

If I'm wrong please correct me. :-) but what I don't understand is if I don't use a transfer switch and I have an air conditioner that needs to be plugged into something grounded, can I safely plug the AC cord directly into the front of the lion ME? Yes you can plug your air conditioner directly into the front of the lion ME as long as it's a 120 volt air conditioner and not a 240-volt. The lion ME does have a grounding plug on the front. As to the true nature of it being grounded I'm not exactly sure. You may want to ask the people at Lion energy.
Also, my transfer switch is just so I can run it through every plug in the house. The lion Emmy has its own set of circuit breakers and safety devices so you can just plug stuff straight in.

The battery is not replaceable. However, it does get up to 3000 Cycles. So if you use that every day 365 days a year it'll last you about eight and a half years and it will still have 80% of its capacity. That's the great thing about lithium iron phosphate batteries.
With all of that stuff on it will run my house for about 3 or 4 hours. Of course I would not be that frivolous with all my power usage in an actual power outage. If I remember correctly I had over 120 lights on, tvs, laptops, ect. It would run my LG double-door refrigerator, my modem for internet, charging smartphones, and running a couple lights easily for 24 hours with the expansion battery and no solar. If you have the full amount of solar coming in you could easily run your refrigerator and some small items indefinitely. This was more of a show of inverter capacity. I hope that helps. It depends on the energy being used by the house. At 1000 Watts it would last for 3 hours at 500 watts it would last for 6. That is of course if you didn't have any solar power coming in. If you have 600 watts of solar hooked up to it it could run 500 watts all day and then run for 6 hours at night. However, every time your refrigerator is cycling your energy level will fluctuate. That's a pretty complicated question. Unfortunately I can't tell you exactly how to hook that up because electrical can be dangerous and I can't be giving out electrician advice when I'm not an electrician. However, if you're not connected to the Grid at all you wouldn't need a transfer switch unless you plan on connecting to the grid later. Also, most breaker boxes are 240 volt system split into two separate 120 volt legs for your Breakers. If you only connect to one leg you're only going to have half of the stuff in your house working. And it will not run 240-volt devices like a dryer or an electric range. I might do a video on my setup but I have to be careful sharing electrical advice. I don't want anyone to get hurt and it can be quite dangerous.
Good Lord, if I read the spec correctly, this machine capacity is 922wh retailing for $2350 ?? Really ?? What a freakin ripoff. Heck if you don't need the bells and whistle, you could have gotten a Lion UT1300 at Costco for $750+ a 2000 Inverter($250) and you could have gotten a 1320wh combo for $1000 vs $2350. Sure I'm not comparing apple to apple but that machine is grossly overpriced even of the 15% discount. Heck I did buy the Lion UT1300 from Costco and built a housing for it. Attached a 2000w inverter to the housing and I have a portable generator with more capacity for less than half the price. Does pretty much everything that machine can do. And it freakin easy. Just attached some cables from the battery to the inverter and you can plug any electric gadget to it. BTW, I love your channel. My opinion is on the generator.
True. Building your own system is always cheaper and gives you more control over options. I try not to get into cost breakdowns in my videos because some people prefer a pre-built system and sometimes cost is not a primary concern. I just found out they sold their entire inventory in the last few days since I did the video so I think all solar generators are in high demand. With these strange times I just try to share any options I can get my hands on. I want to review the titan but they are sold for months. It's good to remind people they can build a system. Lion selling out their beginning inventory has nothing to do with good value. I've been watching a lot of channels(including yours) so I feel i need to pass on the knowledge. Letting people there are far better options available. The Lion UT1300 is a great product and the pricing is in line with everything else in its class. It's an even better value when they were on sale at Costco. 2 x UT1300 for $1400 making it $700 per unit. This Safari ME is grossly overpriced compared to other Lithium generator. Great looking machine until people realized it's capacity is only 922wh. No way a 922wh machine should be priced at $2350. If people really want an easy plug and play machine, the Bluetti AC will be out on the market soon $1799 for 1700wh capacity. Of course the best option is to get the Costco 2 x UT1300 for $1400(when it's available), add a 2000w inverter($300) so for $1700, you get 2700wh capacity.

And another comparison, the Bluetti AC200 was just on Indiegogo for $1199 with a 1700wh capacity. Sure it doesn't have Lifepo4 batteries but it does have high grade auto lithium batteries rates for 2500 cycles also.
Is this honestly real?! I have a skoolie, (school bus converted into a home) and I'm looking for solar power to run everything, meaning a 10.5 sqf fridge, 32" TV, charge cellphone, run a fan, a small washer, and about 10 LED lights to light up to skoolie in and out. HELP! I saw this LION in Walmart.
Its real but I only ran this test for about 6 hours. If you want 24 hour 7 days a week operation you may want to build a system with more solar. This unit will take 600 watts of solar so you would need to charge during the day. I think it would handle your needs but the refrigerator may but you over the top. Not sure how much energy it uses. I just don't want to steer you wrong.

yeah all is on but for a short time mate, no one has all their lights and appliances etc running at the same time so unrealistic video. better to show a normal day of running power to see how long this unit will last. My refrigerator alone drains my Safari ME IN TWO DAYS, I ONLY USE THE SYSTEM FOR MAKING COFFEE otherwise in my Van, so it needs to be topped off often.
Correct. I believe I mentioned that several times in the video. This is not a practical application but rather a demonstration of how much can run off 2,000 Watts at one time. Obviously, you wouldn't be running your entire house with all the lights on in a power outage. This video might just be useful for people that experience temporary blackouts that last a few hours. Heaters use a lot of power. If your heater uses 1500 watts it would last 2 hours with the expansion battery running just the heater.

Heck if you don't need the bells and whistle, you could have gotten a Lion UT1300 at Costco for $750+ a 2000 Inverter($250) and you could have gotten a 1320wh combo for $1000 vs $2350. Sure I'm not comparing apple to apple but that machine is grossly overpriced even of the 15% discount. Heck I did buy the Lion UT1300 from Costco and built a housing for it. Attached a 2000w inverter to the housing and I have a portable generator with more capacity for less than half the price. Does pretty much everything that machine can do. And it freakin easy. Just attached some cables from the battery to the inverter and you can plug any electric gadget to it.
BTW, I love your channel. My opinion is on the generator.
True. Building your own system is always cheaper and gives you more control over options. I try not to get into cost breakdowns in my videos because some people prefer a pre-built system and sometimes cost is not a primary concern. I just found out they sold their entire inventory in the last few days since I did the video so I think all solar generators are in high demand. With these strange times I just try to share any options I can get my hands on. I want to review the titan but they are sold for months. It's good to remind people they can build a system. Most people are really uninformed on the subject of lithium power generator since these are relative new. Lion selling out their beginning inventory has nothing to do with good value.
I've been watching a lot of channels(including yours) so I feel i need to pass on the knowledge. Letting people there are far better options available.
The Lion UT1300 is a great product and the pricing is in line with everything else in its class. It's an even better value when they were on sale at Costco. 2 x UT1300 for $1400 making it $700 per unit.
This Safari ME is grossly overpriced compared to other Lithium generator.
Great looking machine until people realized it's capacity is only 922wh. No way a 922wh machine should be priced at $2350.
If people really want an easy plug and play machine, the Bluetti AC will be out on the market soon $1799 for 1700wh capacity.
Of course the best option is to get the Costco 2 x UT1300 for $1400(when it's available), add a 2000w inverter($300) so for $1700, you get 2700wh capacity.

And another comparison, the Bluetti AC200 was just on Indiegogo for $1199 with a 1700wh capacity. Sure it doesn't have Lifepo4 batteries but it does have high grade auto lithium batteries rates for 2500 cycles also.

Is this honestly real?! I have a skoolie, (school bus converted into a home) and I'm looking for solar power to run everything, meaning a 10.5 sqf fridge, 32" TV, charge cellphone, run a fan, a small washer, and about 10 LED lights to light up to skoolie in and out. HELP! I saw this LION in Walmart.
Its real but I only ran this test for about 6 hours. If you want 24 hour 7 days a week operation you may want to build a system with more solar. This unit will take 600 watts of solar so you would need to charge during the day. I think it would handle your needs but the refrigerator may but you over the top. Not sure how much energy it uses. I just don't want to steer you wrong.

OK please don't flame me, but I'm new to all this and it is SOOOOO overwhelming! I'm boutta lose ma mind! Watched for well over 2 hrs and still baffled as to how much I need, what to buy, how the heck to set up. LOST!! Not unhandy but NOT an electrician, I don't mess with electricity (hate the shock therapy I seem to get!! 'Course it'd help if I shut the breakers off) and don't have months to figure this out. Can anyone...everyone... please help me?
Leoch is just as good for $1000. $2300 is a ripoff. The bluetti ac200 is more affordable at 1700

You’re rambling about stuff no one cares. You gave us the specs show is that it meets or exceeds them. You know how to do this just takes a couple of heaters. People like you waste my time
yeah all is on but for a short time mate, no one has all their lights and appliances etc running at the same time so unrealistic video. better to show a normal day of running power to see how long this unit will last. My refrigerator alone drains my Safari ME IN TWO DAYS, I ONLY USE THE SYSTEM FOR MAKING COFFEE otherwise in my Van, so it needs to be topped off often.
Correct. I believe I mentioned that several times in the video. This is not a practical application but rather a demonstration of how much can run off 2,000 Watts at one time. Obviously, you wouldn't be running your entire house with all the lights on in a power outage. This video might just be useful for people that experience temporary blackouts that last a few hours.
