    But my proportions we’re doing has x-2/4 = 2/5
    Can you give me just a quick explanation on how to solve it?

    • @AmandaD33
      @AmandaD33 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since it's subtracting, write (x-2) on TOP and keep the denominator the SAME. To solve for x you have to get both sides to the COMMON denominator...to do that, put large quotations around EVERYTHING on both sides, multiply numerator (top numbers) AND denominator (bottom numbers) by 4 or 5 until they both match up at 20. 20 is the least common denominator when you work your way up.
      (5x-10/20) =(8/20) now solving for x will be all about getting x by itself so do the standard balancing equation technique. Multiply both sides by 20 to cancel (or zero out) the fractions...next, ADD on both sides to cancel the negative number next to x, and last but not least, DIVIDE the remaining number that is touching x by what should be 100...and do it on both sides as usual. Now you have x= 3.6 ..visual help below.
      20 (5x-10/20) =20 (8/20)
      AKA 20*5x= 100x...20*(-10) =-200...and 20 times the fraction of itself reduces it to 1 which is invisible now.
      =[100x-200] is now on the left...
      On the right you have...
      20*8=160 and again, 20 multiplied by denominator of 20 canceled the denominator to a 1.
      [160] is alone now solve for x....
      "100x-200=160"
      ADD 200 to both sides. Makes 100x=360...
      Next DIVIDE both sides by 100..
      X=360/100 ...just move the decimal to the left 2 times on 100 and 360.
      X= 3.60/1.00 SO IT IS X=3.6
      CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG THOUGH! 😁

      @AmandaD33 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry my explanation is not short. I just wanted to make sure I showed all the steps I took because I don't know where you're getting lost. I had excellent teachers in my high school but I am here for review because I haven't been in school for 10 years. I still remember all the basics but I'm having issues with cross multiplication of whole fractions against decimals and percentages. And converting worded problems like probability into equations...It's like I've had a really long summer LOL 10 years no school and this stuff has really not been used at all!

    I love how everyone loves to badmouth their teachers on here. Watching a video is completely different. You are seeking the method that works for you and your in the comfort of your home or wherever. Bottom line is you are in control. If you don’t like this video you can go find another. Teachers have a job where they have to teach 30 kids a way of solving a problem usually in 50 minutes or 1 hour. That’s our challenge.

    hey mr.mario! that cross reducing you did on method #2, problem C has me a bit confused. is there anyway we could talk about that for a min? It happened so, I can't seem to understand why were cross reducing. almost like i need to understand what the answer is when it's done like the previous problems. I feel like you went from beginner technique to advance shortcut, and for some reason that's where my mind loses focus you know. so i'm not sure what's happening and why its happening on that problem.

      i think i still understand the method that is demonstrated in A and B. The fraction is still being multiplied across and the least common denominator is being applied, or reduced right? I'm losing comprehension when I think about that diagonal cross reducing.
