It only works if you have a cellphone signal. If your battery dies, you're in a bad area or the driver has a cellphone signal jammer like another commenter mentioned in her bad Uber experience story.

    1) Uber has an emergency button.
    2) start recording the conversation in a voice note

I hope and pray that she can recover from this, and NO one deserves this to happen to them.

Being an Uber driver myself and youtuber... I would definitely say make sure you use the “share my ride” feature and record if you need be. Uber riders also have the emergency 911 feature in the app that you can use if need be. Drivers like this make the rest of us look bad so don’t be afraid to report them. I always back drivers but when they’re in the wrong then they get what they deserve. If they play stupid games then they win stupid prizes. I’m sry you had to deal with this and hope it gets handled and you never experience this again.

As a trans man I can confirm that I went from fearing every person at night to walking at night with my hood up and earbuds in. Also it is NOT a normal thing for guys to act this way (boys will not be boys) because I have the same hormones in my body the only difference is I wasn’t raised as a boy and wasn’t treated as a boy by society until I was older. There’s no excuse, a real man doesn’t act like that.
Just a side note I’ve vowed to myself that anytime I see a girl being put in uncomfortable situations by a guy I will step in and if I see a girl alone and way too drunk I’d stay with her and have my girlfriend come and take her home, because I understand how scary guys can be but I’d never put a girl in an uncomfortable situation because damn, ladies you already deal with enough.

      a. n. Just want to get this straight...if you are wearing something that shows more skin than a standard pair of pants and long sleeve top that means your half-naked? Okay, for the sake of argument I’ll play along with that for now.
So if being seen by others (in person or through an image) “half naked” means that you deserve verbal rape and harassment in a confined space...I guess that means most of the world has to line up for their turn also.
Every model, every actor, every person who has been swimming at a beach or pool. Each and every human that has posted a picture on Facebook of their favorite swimsuit, nightshirt, summer outfit. And not just women, men also! They strip down and show more skin than women...we have to wear tops.
It would take a hell of a lot of drivers to get through the backlog of the number of people who “deserve” it by your reasoning.
Last I checked the human male is a sentient creature who has free will and control of his own actions. To write off anything like this as “she deserved it” or “she was asking for it” only insults men but saying they are unable to control themselves. That they are no more able to control themselves than a mad rutting bull. Which couldn’t be farther from the truth.

This is the problem. You said “I shouldn’t be so upset, nothing happened to me.” Something did happen to you Loey! You have every right to be upset and just be a hot mess about this. Girls (and boys) should never feel wrong for being upset about being sexually harassed. Just because something worse could’ve happened, does not mean what happened wasn’t bad, or wasn’t worth being upset about. I love you Loey 💕
Edit: Btw, Loey posted pictures of herself in lingerie, which is okay! Idk why people think this but that does not give anyone consent to sexually harass her. People constantly like to blame the person that’s being sexually harassed because of what they’re wearing and that stigma needs to end.

My driver went 20 mins out of the way from my apartment last year when I was living alone in a decently sized city. I texted everyone I knew and told them what was going on. Driver acted weird and kept looking at me in the rearview mirror but didnt say anything to me. Eerily quiet ride but when you get the instinct you should just go with your gut. It's hard in the situation because you convince yourself you're overreacting, but you're not the one in the wrong. You're playing for a service that's being taken advantage of. If I hadnt have called him out on how hes taking me nowhere near my house and threatened to call the police who knows where I wouldve ended up. Always be safe and dont be afraid to hold your ground.

Pretend you have a phone call, stick in your earplugs, load up a text conversation from a friend, and read out just your end of that conversation as if you're talking to them. However I want to urge you to begin facing an Uber or taxi or public transport again as soon as you possibly can even if it’s with friends or family. Loey, you have every right to feel the way that you feel. You did everything that you could to diffuse the situation and to change the direction of conversation and your Uber driver kept on with his actions. So there is nothing that you did wrong in dealing with this situation. You did everything right. As far as wanting to try to do something to prevent this from happening to somebody else, you're doing it. Putting the word out there about your experience, as painful as it is, is the best way to help people be more alert about what is going on and will hopefully prevent this from happening again. Being a security consultant, I've tried to tell people to always be aware of their surroundings and be on alert always. And having law enforcement experience, it sounds like you were dealing with someone who was not only unstable but also at the beginning stages of being a predator. I'm so glad that you got out of that situation safely and made all the appropriate calls and notifications. I can also tell you that I am very proud of your quick thinking in the fact that you were trying to get someone on the phone so that they can be with you audibly during the situation and trying to come up with ways to diffuse and get out of the situation. Your quick thinking did save you from potentially physical confrontation.

I’ve been in a situation with this but with an ex. It doesn’t matter if it sounds stupid, you should never be pressured into talking about something that makes you uncomfortable. I was pressured to take part in ANR with an ex I had and he would not stop pressuring me and trying to push me to do things I didn’t want to no matter how many times I refused. He even tried making me feel bad about never partaking and always saying no saying I didn’t really love him if I didn’t do it. I shut it down and broke up with him because like I said, it made me so uncomfortable and he had no regard for my feelings and just wanted what he wanted and I felt a knot in my stomach. He was very predatory and I’m glad I got out when I did. I’m proud of you for speaking up. I didn’t for the longest time and it caused a lot of mental issues for a while. I realized if you keep quiet, it will happen again. I’m praying you have peace of mind with this soon love 🖤

My heart breaks for you. This whole situation is scary and horrible, I’m sure. You’re so strong to not only post this but to report what happened as well. You’re an inspiration. None of this was your fault so please don't feel responsible for his behaviour. You clearly didn't encourage him and he clearly did try to bully you into doing something you refused point blank to do or even be remotely interested in. The responsibilty is on him, not you. I'm a lyft driver and just had to do a seminar for this exact situation. Mostly from a driver standpoint. Drivers get harassed as well. But I do know for a fact that with lyft driver are heavily screened. I passed both lyfts and ubers requirements. I do not drive for uber I hate uber. Where I live, the community hates uber purely because of the amount of "creepy" rides people have had. I have had so many riders tell me that lyft drivers are better. That being said I know that a lot of people are getting scared to use us and I completely understand. But I am a female driver and when I get female passengers and they tell me how happy they are to have a female driver it makes the job worth it. To know that even if just for 5 minutes I made their experience a little better because I was a female. I have heard crazy stories from my riders none like this but my heart goes out to riders that have dealt with this type of thing because I could not imagine the fear of not knowing if you are going to get to your destination. I'm so sorry this happened.
