One of the main criticisms of a two-handed forehand is that it reduces the reach of the player using it. Of course, the same can be said of the two-handed backhand. However, if you watch footage of two-handed players, they will regularly extend to one-handed shots to extend reach without seeming difficulty.
Rafa when he was younger was a right hander and had two handed forehand. Toni advised him to convert to left so that he can leverage his right handed forehand as backhand.
If he didn't do so, he would be a male greatest two handed forehand ever, Seles' male version in tennis history 🤔 I do two handed forehand too after got problem with my one handed forehand lol, I'm right handed btw.
Remember how I said I love how you're rounding out your videos? I also love how the previous can set up the next, such as how these last two and the three before that complemented each other. So there's a lot of love for this channel 😁
good video however I would disagree with the “have more power” statement for the two handed forehands. Having one hand on the racket allows for more rotation to strike the ball - hence why forehands are struck harder than backhands on the tour. But overall great video man keep up the fab work!
@@Official.tadiwa No, look at the forehand racquet head speed of the top male pros. You'd never manage that motion/acceleration with a two hander. More spin and more pace.
More accurately, I would say two-handed forehands could generate more power with a compact swing. The advantage of a compact swing is to hit the ball early on the rise and take time away from the opponent. This is a common strength of these players.
I would not say Segura had backhands on both sides, nor did he have a two handed (lefty) backhand. . He was a righty, and had a classical one handed backhand. The other side was a forehand -it can be seen that he even had a one handed starting phase of his swing (contrary to a lefty's two handed backhand). He did have a two handed forehand, but with his dominant (i.e. right) hand up, and his left hand down towards the butt. This is called cross-handed grip two handed forehand (and it looks the same as a leftie's two handed backhand).
Cross hand is Left on top.., Seles has this, GENE MAYER had this #4 during Mac's prime, Hsieh as well. Segura has a lefty 2hbh... Left on the bottom. Notable cross handers incl. Dubs legend Crew McMillen, Jim Pugh ( #1 dubs ).
I just started playing tennis again after 10 years of not playing due to injuries and life getting in the way. I cannot believe I used to hit one handed forehands with such power and accuracy. I mean I used to hit them all out, as hard as I possibly could with topspin and I had great consistency keeping them in play. Now, every time I try that I hit it out of the park and someone has to go fetch the ball from 3 courts over. It’s so hard to control now (I’m also 30more lbs overweight than I used to be and totally out of shape). The funny thing is, when I was younger I couldn’t even imagine hitting a 2 hander, it seemed awkward. Now, it seems really natural and it’s the only way I can hit forehand topspin with any reliability. I just think of it exactly like a baseball swing and that’s how I grip it. It gives me much more control and stabilization of my swing. The secret I’m learning is the power comes through the jump as you explode upwards, jumping as you hit it. Sure you have to hit it in the right direction with the right flick of the wrist to get topspin, but all the power and purpose comes from the legs/jump Somehow I still have my 1-handed backhand topspin and cut shots. Idk how that works lol
@@ro00o33 Hi there thank you so much and also for telling me your story 😁👍 that’s very interesting and I feel great that there is someone out there who does it as well 😎😊 Thank you also again for your advice and the tip with concerning how to use the legs for the DH Forehand is great. I will do it even more purposely now. It’s funny I used to play soccer for 15 years so my legs are pretty strong and muscular. So to me it now makes totally sense that I am using these legs 😁 I hope I can do well in the next tournament this week and show everyone that you can also do well with a Doublehanded Forehand.
Two handed shots, whether forehand or backhand, CANNOT achieve more power than one handed. What it can do is give more consistent power, meaning the average power of a shot will be higher fore two handers.
Supposedly I was left handed as a toddler but preschool made me right handed. This might be why when I play tennis as an adult, I find it quite easy to shoot one handed backhands in a verity of ways with my right hand. That being said, my forehand shots are nowhere as versatile or all that accurate with the use of just my right hand. Using both hands for my forehand seems to correct my weak forehand skills. Everyone can learn from the principles but everyone may find they have unique strengths and weaknesses, definitely try everything until something clicks and feels best for you.
It's interesting that Segura had a one handed backhand (despite having a two handed forehand looking a lefty's two handed backhand as he slid his right hand upwards away from the butt).
Love your videos! I do kind of wonder why the two-handed forehand has been more predominately used on the WTA as opposed to the ATP. Out of curiosity, what video editor do you use to make your videos?
Having played with both, there are DEFINITELY advantages to a two-handed forehand. With a two-hander, I was able to get exceptional control of ball speed and spin, as well as angle. However, with a one-hander as I use now, I get more reach and more power.

@@reinamasaya898 What problem? Injuries or discomfort when hitting?
Monica Seles!!! One can argue that, if it were not for that awful knife incident, she could have become the most successful tennis player of all time.
@@mikesotolongo4908 Right, of course!
Very true this. Very very true. Powerful forehand so powerful and so much control

Monica Seles' two handed forehand may produce even less power due to the way she grab the racket in the same place on both sides - no switch.
No you get more power due to the shoulder rotation.

Having more rotation isn't power. Please know what you talking about. spinning the ball isn't the same as flat shot, power shots.

Hsieh Su Wei is my fave!
Hsieh su wei is wta magical 🔥✨
There is a difference between a double handed forehand like Bartoli and Santoro or a double backhand like Segura and Hsieh

I have a two handed forehand and a two handed backhand. I totally get what is explained in the video. Thinking about trying single handed again....

I use a two handed forehand. Lots of advantages, but you cant have an open stance and therefore your reach on wide angle shots is not good.
I have a two handed forehand as well and have no problem doing an open-stance. I can even do a reverse forehand with the two hands.
It is a little harder and somewhat expected. The real problem to me is that it is harder to generate spin. do you have the same issue?
@@jayG5991 I do, my forehand is pretty flat for sure.

Amazing video, just one thing I want to point out, Hsieh has no forehand, instead switches between a left handed and right handed two hand backhand
Not true
You forgot to mention two-handed forehands hit the ball later, thereby disguising their shot direction better.
I tried it last Saturday and the ball is flying everywhere. How much pratice do I have to put on that?
Not much if your two handed backhand is solid as the two handed forehand will be the same movement but on the other side
I can’t imagine having a two handed backhand nice vid
I used to have one and switched to one and then back now I’m here with a one again it’s so weird honestly

No mention of Jan Michael gamble!?
His was double fisted
I have a two handed forehand. Very consistent but doesn't have the power of a one hander. Loss of reach, particularly on drop shots.
Marion Bartoli should absolutely be in the thumbnail! The 2nd most successful 2 handed singles player on either the men's or women's tour.
Ooohhh so that's why my friend asked me how could you hit the ball with double forehand? 🤣 I didn't know it was rare shot 😂

Monica Seles - Double Forehand and Double Backhand 😂

Never seen two handed forehand with leading left hand
Two handed is faster strokes and more accurate. But less reach for defense and does not hit as deep as ome handed. Imo.
I have a double handed forehand:)

two great players that I missed from this video: Gene Mayer, Hans Gildemeister
