    I remember the developers said that there will be creatures that sometimes infest derelict hulks and can potentially lead to "Alien" like situations, where during a salvage job something might sneak onboard and hunt your crew one by one. Hence why the Reclaimer is designed the way it is and resembles the Nostromo and Prometheus. It reflects the sorts of danger salvage crews might face.
    Also if you think this ship is creepy wait until the Orion (the heavy MINING ship) is released, based on the ISHIMURA from Dead Space.

    CIG have said that some of the big ships "can" enter gravity on a planet to land (like the Reclaimer) but you only do that when you really need to cause getting one out of atmo is hard and demanding on the ships engines and uses a lot of fuel. So best to keep it in space cause you might not get it of the planet again (depends of the gravity strength, fuel remaining and thruster wear).

    It's worth noting that the Carraack fits in hangars on stations, the Reclaimer is too big to fit in Station hangars. Although not the longest (890 has that honor), the Reclaimer is the tallest playable ship in game right now. It also happens to be longer, and wider, than the Carrack. (I typed this half way though video....if you discover this in 2nd half, whoops =P)

    The Reclaimer is a great ship with no purpose at this time. It really takes it's design cues from the Nostromo in the original Alien. Very industrial. When Salvaging comes on line this ship will be a very sought after salvager for multicrew. This ship will probably be able to be solo'd as well but like all large ships it will be at a serious disadvantage.

    • @TheGoodishGamer
      @TheGoodishGamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Salvaging is going to be some fun game play. Especially with a crew. I can see salvaging solo being a thing. Park the ship next to the wreck, scoot over to the claw seat and start tearing it apart. But I agree, like you said, at a disadvantage.

    • @OneBiasedOpinion
      @OneBiasedOpinion 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Tbh it sounds like the Vulture will make solo salvage much easier than this beast. The Reclaimer is _meant_ to be run by a group for optimal efficiency.

      @Brenelael 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@OneBiasedOpinion Well it will be like the Prospector and the Mole. Just because the Mole is multi-crew doesn't stop a lot of people from soloing it regularly. I use a Prospector just because the Turret refactor in 3.14 makes it clear that these ships will get harder to solo once more game systems come on line. You'll be jumping between so many seats eventually it won't be worth the time and the Solo ships will be the way to go for solo play.

That Mess though... I'm sorry, but all I can see is John Hurt getting put on that table, and all the 'fun' that happened after that. They nailed that perfectly. The shape really reminds me of a giant tick, or maybe a dragonfly larva, with that extendable claw 'jaw' to pull stuff in. Ghost ship or haunted ship is a great idea. And to add to that... when you look in the crew washroom mirror there, the towels reflected are white. But when you turn around... they're black/blue. LoL.

  • @Fizzlefuse
    @Fizzlefuse 3 ปีที่แล้ว +79

    People's reaction to the Reclaimer always brings a smile to my face. I love mine and I am desperately waiting for salvage so the ship can finally get fixed and have it's intended gameplay mechanics implemented. She hasn't had a real update since she was implemented. The current version is old and likely only actually modeled and implemented in the game because they wanted to show it off in Squadron42, the story driven soloplayer game they're working on.
    At the moment she's very buggy and honestly kind of useless as we don't have salvage in the game yet. As you've aready noticed, she's too slow to be a freighter and I don't reccommend taking her in atmosphere... manouvering with zero wind is already an issue and painstakingly slow as you need to turn the VTOL engines downward to stay up. When a serious wind picks up it's almost impossible to do much with her, even when she has no cargo. Ive seen (and have experienced) many crashes because the ship became unflyable in heavy winds.
    To people saying "oh she's not meant to be taken into atmo", yes she is otherwise she wouldn't have VTOL and landing gear. The thrust needs serious work.
    The rear engines are in the way to properly align with the docking arms on stations in the future so we'll have to see what they'll change when she finally gets updated. She is also supposed to come with a small parasite vehicle/ship known as a "manned cutter" wich will help in EVA salvage operations. It's unsure yet where that's supposed to go. perhaps it will be something like a powerloader from ALIENS. The Reclaimer's look and feel was heavily inspired by the Nostromo.
    So yeah. Right now I just spawn mine on occasion to give people a tour. She's beautiful if you like chunky, industrial ships that are built for function in stead of looks.

    It's really interesting to think about the mechanical aspect of landing gear like that. Knowing how heavy a ship like that would be, it can't support it's own weight from the bottom so it's gear is attached towards the center of gravity, presumably built directly into the "skeleton" of the ship to evenly distribute weight.

  • @BerraLJ

    This is a very old ship design that was modeled before "design language" was decided for Aegis. That's why it looks so different than anything else in game. It is a mostly nonfunctional ship and one of the main reasons why they stopped developing ships far before there was a purpose for them in game. It hasn't been updated in years, but will when salvage gets in game. There are only two guns per turret, but three turrets are operated by one person at a time.

  • @cowboy10uk

    Just love this ship and the industrial feel to her. Granted I’ve not used mine for ages, due to it being currently mostly redundant. However once the salvaging mechanics are implemented then I fully expect her to be brought upto gold standard and will come into her own.
    She’s a very large ship to fly, and rather slow to fly, especially taking off. Don’t think she’s really designed for atmo flight, even though she can by using brute force.
    It’s the closest ship I feel that feels like the Nostromo. The grunge, heavy industrial, feel of a working ship. Can’t wait to start using her with full Multicrew salvaging when those mechanics are finally implemented.
    Think she’s gonna be quite rare, most people like faster and better looking ships, so I would guess she’s gonna be overlooked by many.

    I really hope that when salvaging gets its time the team takes a look at Hardspace: Shipbreaker
    The idea of cutting apart a smaller ship or ship pieces grabbed by the claw and chucking them down a chute to get processed sounds really cool.
    Imagine an expensive ship goes down, scanners light up of a high value target, and you rush to the scene to cut the abandoned (or soon to be) ship into large pieces by the claw before maneuvering that into the salvage bay. Having other players with cutters at the ready taking it apart like an F1 pit crew before the next one is ready. All the while you may be ambushed by others who want a piece and having your turret and drone operators scrambling to protect the ship as the pilot makes the tough call to stay or grab a last piece and run.
    This feels like something MADE for multiplayer with players finding their own roles on the ship. Maybe smaller ships could be stored in their entirety in the salvage bay and as it opens to collect a broken ship or large ship part you also release said fighter to make it well defended.

    • @timothygooding9544
      @timothygooding9544 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A theory of how salvaging could work:
      When a ship dies or is spawned for a salvage mission a model that looks like the ship is placed, there is no functionality like a normal ship instead it has predetermined cut points that can be used by large cutters (ship or salvage drone) to divide ships into salvageable pieces.
      Small ships may be able to fit in large salvage bays entirely, smaller salvage ships may need to divide other small ships to fit them.
      The piece (or entire ship if small enough) is then maneuvered into the salvage bay by either mechanical arm or a salvage drone, once close enough it is placed in a fixed position.
      The piece must now be cut apart correctly, depending on how the devs want to do it there may be danger to dismantling a part like a reactor that must be removed correctly (if its a fusion reactor you cut the power to the magnets keeping the plasma confined, if fission you must remove the heavy water, basically stop the reaction before stopping cooling. Guns may require ammo to be removed first to prevent misfire. Electric sources must be switched off or have the connection severed. ETC) The piece will also have predetermined cut points to make this process easier on the computer, but the complexity of the part can still make this simple or a difficult puzzle.
      Once a part is cut free it could get "sucked" into the chute (NO PHYSICS NEEDED) or a player could carry it, although with the size of star citizen I would recommend going for in-depth mechanics but relying on the physics engine as little as possible.
      Either crew with cutting tools or a robot controlled from the bridge could do this task, crew is more efficient but a robot would allow single player salvaging (or less risk for more dangerous salvage parts).
      As the cut down components are fed into the chute they are converted into resources and stored in the cargo bay. If the piece being salvaged contained cargo it will be sucked into the chute like a part cut loose immediately and also be stored in the cargo bay. (again avoid janky physics. If a ship dies and a box is located near the cockpit mark the cockpit piece as also containing the box no physics object needed)
      (this could make the cargo bay an easy quick buck item while power sources are the highest paying thing for the highest risk. Next would be weapons and thrusters and then the hull would be like doing a "whole buffalo" in H:S)
      The materials could be sold for profit at stations or also have specialized cargo like a black box needed for a mission.

    • @timothygooding9544
      @timothygooding9544 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Additional stuff:
      Small salvage ships (think like a mining adder in elite dangerous) may have a salvage bay that is far smaller and needs the normal sized pieces for a large salvager cut down into smaller pieces (maybe 3 small pieces per normal piece). You could strafe around a dead ship to cut it into pieces before maneuvering one of the pieces into the salvage bay by just moving your ship (like an oversized cargo scoop) The salvage bay would be right behind the cockpit and you would just get up and get to cutting. Things like salvage drones (able to cut and move pieces) and dismantler robots (replaces crew in the salvage bay) would be unavailable for these smaller craft.
      Also if tug craft are implemented to get large ships like these out of the atmosphere there should probably be a function where they can automatically return to base once they complete their mission. This could allow players to get this massive ship up and ready faster and more conveniently, with a little spacewalk for the guy piloting the tug. Just click "return to base" and go out the airlock toward the ship and watch the tug automatically reenter the atmosphere.
      A cool strategy that may be seen with tugs during landing is parking the ship in LEO, firing down an escape pod, having that person get a tug back up to LEO and using it to help the ship descend safely, restocking the escape pod after landing.
      In balance with other ships the ability to cut may have salvage ships able to do massive amounts of damage to hulls but have poor maneuverability to keep them out of a combat role, like a tank that cant rotate its turret. While it isnt advised to use it for combat it could be a fun meme or even an effective ambush for small ships (maybe salvaging still-active ships could be massively illegal and a hilariously terrifying threat when in anarchic parts of the universe).

    • @TheGoodishGamer
      @TheGoodishGamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like it! Good thinking! I like the option to have both robot cutting and crew cutting. Maybe depending on the size of ship? Like you said incase playing solo you still have the option to salvage but if you have a crew then everyone has a job.

      Given how much thought and effort CIG has put into gameplay loops so far, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did something along those lines. They very much do not like the “press buttons and watch the cutscene” approach to things. Every aspect is as hands-on and skill-based as they can make it.
      Some people don’t like this approach very much, but I find it fascinating because it lends so much nuance to a wide variety of players. I can be a pilot with a lot of experience in deep-space navigation and Wormhole traversal, or I could be a ground-pounding merc who sees spaceships as little more than taxis to my next contract. Both can theoretically make bank and earn cool stuff… provided you’re good at your job!

It took my friend about a good few minutes to navigate the corridors leading to the cockpit to an oblivious pilot only to be shot in the back of the head. Once he gained control of the ship he headed back to my location and managed to picked me up then we proceeded to jump to a few different locations and fully explore the ship after. When they go back to gold standard the ship they will add things it is missing like lightswitches and door controls. also the majority of stations are just using placeholder MFD screens but they have scheduled out on the roadmap a revisit of operator modes for multicrew gameplay for I believe 3.16 or one of the patches next year. They are planning on fleshing out more of the multicrew gameplay at that time so things like the scanning station or possibly tractor stations should gain functionality as well as co-pilot or crewmembers being able to do things like scanning and navigation tasks to leave the pilot to just worry about flying. can't wait for that.

The guy has a seriously impressive portfolio. And if you think it gives off Alien vibes, it's because it was inspired by the Nostromo. The Reclaimer is one of my favorite ships in Star Citizen. The various stations you visited with the MFDs are place holders until the Salvage gameplay loop is fully implemented - which is going to take a while.

    Apex Salvager so far. Armed with 6 twin S3 remote Turrets that can be countrolled by 2 gunners. Each gunner has 3 turrets slaved to one controles the top the other the buttom hemisphere. the front top Turret is a Twin s5 manned turret.
    She is bigger then the Carrack and will also come with a snub vessel we know is named "cutter"
    The reclaimer is not done at all and lacks a lot of gates doors and even interiors.

    its like a baby of the serenity and the nostromo.
    btw its only SLIGHTLY shorter in length compared to the carrack, by like 10 meters, but the reclaimers is WAY taller and wider, not to mention thicker.

    The Carrack is smaller than the Reclaimer.
    What tricked you was that the Carrack has to land in "large" hangars, and it just barely fitt in those.
    The Reclaimer needs an "extra large hangar", only some locations like planetary Landinzones have those and most stations don´t.

    Fun fact. The Reclaimer looks so torn up because it was the original test bed for ship aging to see what they could do to make a ship look old and spooky/run down. It will most likely not look so grungy when we get the finished ship.

    The first time I flew a Reclaimer it was when I could manually take off and land (autoland didn't work) any ship, first time like a BOSS.
    Ah, those were the days. ;-)

    It still shocks people their first time seeing it. The ship is "done" with heavy quotes. The Reclaimer was the first 'big' ship after the Starfarer. It had it's own multi deck elevator (zomg!), huge presence on the landing pad, had an awesome moody interior that spawned a lot of Alien memes, and put an emphasis on the ships industrial purpose letting players see stations that were more than a display-screen. It made quite an impact. It was built with the latest tech and design flows of the time, but that was also years ago now. So while it's "Done" to the standards of the time, many more systems and tech have been developed since then and can be added to the ship later on when there's another pass some day/year. That means many things ranging from shield stations to showers and engine repair to ship subsystems aren't working yet, but newer ships do have room lighting controls, door locking, physicalized ship component slots, etc. Production flow right now feels almost dismissive to many of our favorite features, systems, and ships currently in and those we want that we don't yet have, but the production pipeline is planned with the idea of bringing past work up to date down the road. Star Citizen isn't the current priority for CIG but Squadron 42, though SC currently makes them ALL the $$$. The way I understand it when, for example, something like shield management gameplay/meta is developed for Squadron it'll be passed on to SC, or it'll be developed for and tested in SC for the purpose of adding it to S42. But it's all for the purpose of getting Squadron out to make steady money and clear up employees schedules to work on all the mmo stuff we want

      It’s going to be an exciting time when they eventually get around to updating the older ships with all the shiny new tech they’re releasing!

    Lol, it's so nice to see others geeking out over these great ships in this great game. I remember the first time I saw the Reclaimer, I couldn't believe how brutally imposing it is. While I love many ships in the game, this has to be one of the most impressive designs, both inside and out in any scifi, be it game, comic, series or movie!!!

    I love how much he showcased the unfinished aspects of the ship. Almost as if its not even remotely close to finished.
