    DT466 WAS PROBABLY in that truck. Used from about 1971 to 2016. Still highly used as pulling engines in competition. They were referred to as "the unkillable engine." The DT stood for DIESEL TURBO. Hope this helps
    They were widely used in med. Duty trucks and school buses.

    When all else fails:Push the clutch pedal down. Some vehicles were equipped with a switch on the clutch that prevented starting unless the clutch was pushed down. That may not be the case here, but any engine will crank over better if it isn't turning a bunch of gears churning up old oil.

    • @awkwarddude
      @awkwarddude 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking the same thing, a safety switch on the clutch pedal requiring pushing the clutch to the floor in order to get power to the starter. Being an 89 it's entirely possible.

    That motor is a 7.3...a V8 IH engine that was a good motor and made until 1993. I had trucks with both the 7.3 and the DT466 and they were both very good motors. The 7.3's biggest issue was the fuel pump (that sits in the top middle of the engine)...they were a little quirky and when there was an issue they didn't run at all......but a relatively inexpensive and easy fix.

    I think it’s been said but DT is diesel turbo. The engine in this truck is a 7.3 IDI. I have a 1985 with a 6.9 idi, a 1992 with a DT466, a 1994 bus with the T444e and a 1995 bus with a DT466. I really enjoy working with these old Internationals. The DT466 is one of the best medium duty engines built, inline 6 with wet liners which makes for a simple rebuild. The 6.9/7.3 idi was good engines but not very powerful in these trucks. Hank you definitely need that truck! If I wasn’t so far away I’d be tempted to add that truck to my collection 😂!

    What you got right there is a 7.3 idi engine, they were made by international/Navistar from 1983-1994, however from 1983-1987 it was a 6.9 idi, the 7.3 idi is practically just a bored out 6.9. The idis are great engines, they will last hundreds of thousands of miles, they were really popular in International school buses and single wheel trucks just like that one, they were actually put in ford pickups from 1983-1994.5, the 7.3 power stroke (DT444E) came out half way through 1994. The 6.9 and 7.3 idis came as naturally aspirated engines (no turbo) originally, until 1993 and 1994 the company called ATS started producing turbo kits for these engines and they will make quite a bit of power with a turbo, they are all mechanical engines (the only wire needed to run the whole motor is a 12v wire going to the fuel shutoff solenoid). These were super reliable engines and were really the last of their kind, however they are well known for hard starting in the cold which is why almost all of the ones I’ve been around have an old can of starter fluid in the glove box. I actually own a 6.9 idi in a 1986 f250 4x4. It will pull a house down just not very quickly, I figured I’d share a little knowledge with you guys about em

    That is a 7.3 l 445 cubic inch indirect and injected diesel. It was used between 1988 and 1994 and 1/2 model years in internationals and a variation was used in the Ford F-250 and Ford F-350 also it also came in two variations which would be punched out in the sticker on the valve cover it was replaced in '94 by the t444e direct injected engine. The difference is the IDI injectors would be visible outside the valve cover while the t444e injectors would be under the valve cover and are electric over hydraulic actuated. the seven three IDls put in Fords used a adapter plate to mount the Ford transmissions to the engine so not many components will interchange between the international and Ford variants.

      Actually its exactly the same engine used in ford pickups and vans. only difference is injection calibration and the external bolt on accessories. we had a 94 international 4700 and got a replacement engine from a 89 ford econoline van and it is a direct bolt in with no modifications needed. the International trucks use a flywheel housing to adapt from the Navistar engine to the sae transmission boltpattern used in medium truck applications.

    If you're still looking at the comments Hank, I want to remind you about one I left on an older episode. It's a "country boys remedy" for wasp or spider stings. Use cigarette or pipe tobacco, just a pinch, topped with an aspirin. Wet (slightly, you want the aspirin to begin desolving) and wrap it with a clean cloth or gauze. The combination REALLY works pulling out the sting. It won't swell near as much and doesn't hurt as long. For cuts wash it off and put table salt on it RIGHT AWAY. Salt packs from restaurants are good. It won't burn, (unless you wait 30 minutes or so) the salt and minerals kill germs, slow the bleeding and the cut won't get sore or infected. After 10 minutes or so you can wash off the salt, dry it and bandage as needed. Ya'll are "off in the south 40" and need to be prepared.

    You gotta push the clutch in to start it. Thats why it wont start from inside. The motor is a 7.3 non turbo power stroke based motor. Its a international v8 that ford named it a power stroke. Gutless outta the hole taking off but once you up to the speed you want to be it will run that speed all day long

    Looks to me like a 6.9 idi or 7.3 idi engine. Real good engines and will run till 1 million miles if taken care of

    DT is a designation for a detroit diesel engine.. a "DT" series engine means "Diesel Turbo". a "D" series engine is naturally aspirated. Another great video fellas
