    I thouroughly enjoyed this conversation. Before I jumped into it I thought: "Ok, let's hear the two Americans trashing Cate Campbell for her words". In the end, it turned out to be an extremely detached, non-partisan, commonsensical and mature approach to a topic that less interesting people would easily have used to stir the Aussie-US rivalry to boiling heights. Congratulations, gentlemen!

      (This is Mel) I've competed in Australia, and I have friends living there now. We're aware that morning show is intended to be fun and lighthearted. Also, we know Cate from her travels to The States going back to when she was 16 years old. Personally, I think rivalry is a gift to the sport and should be engaged. Australia has towering talent, and Team USA is fighting for podium position right now--with France, Australia, China, The UK and other great swimming nations. Paris2024 will be fun.

    Aussies are renowned for their banter to stir the pot, but will always go for a beer with the opposition after the competition no matter who wins. So don't take what Cate said to heart just give it back Next thing you will see is everyone laughing their heads off. 😂👍

    I’m not surprised that these words came out of Cate’s mouth. She has a track record of saying words directed at US with that kind of energy. I still like Cate as a swimmer and a person. I also think Australia media likes to stir the pot too. I rather have her speak her truth in the way she chooses than listen to some fake cliche answer that I usually hear from swimming athletes. All that being said, Cate might’ve put some bad voodoo on team Australia knowing there’s going to be added pressure on them to perform well knowing that we’re Definetly going to come out to Paris ready to make a statement. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸💪🏽

    What is the scoring system? For example, a gold is worth 3 points, silver 2 points, and bronze one point. Calculate every country’s score at the end of the meet based on their medal count and rank it based on that?

    I always prefer international feeds and commentary when watching sports. Knowing how abc used to cover international competitors vs the NBC USA jingoism is saddening. I want to know about talent and excellence in sport not just the journey of usa athlete coming in fourth. I wish the aquatics competition was on youtube with the international broadcasters like the 2022 Budapest championships.

      @@SwimSwamTVthis time round BBC did not cover the world championships at all. The only cover was on BBC internet about Matt Richard winning 200 m freestyle and 4x200 m. May be with others sports (ladies soccer) we did not have enough money to buy that from the US broadcasters. I watched a Russian TH-cam channel that covered every heat, semi and finals as well as medal ceremonies.

      As a Canadian that was visiting the US during Worlds, this was very evident. The broadcast from Budapest was brilliant. I had the stream on for a majority of the competition, even for events that I normally don't watch. IMO-this is how we grow an audience.

      @@houtansadeghi I've past Olympic coverage on BBC and thoroughly loved it! Regarding UK right for World Champs, I'm 90% sure - my opinion - World Aquatics (aka FINA) was asking for a steep rate. That's a guess. I haven't confirmed it, but it's big oversight not having WCs coverage in the UK.

    There are other opportunities in the USA than sports. After age 15 there is a large drop off in participation in all sports. That the USA wins any medals in any sport unfathomable. Soon many will find out that going to college is a waste of money and more guys will go for jobs in the trades. Trade schools don't have sports teams. Americans will have to get swimmers from high school teams or master swimmers. After competing today in college , a swimmer is so far behind people his age who are earning good income.High school swimmers from the USA competing against 24 - 28 year old state "amateurs" from Australia and Europe and Asia.

    Only Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky can make any money in swimming today. Maybe Rowdy Gaines can make some money as a commentator every 4 years for the Olympics and the world championship. Do the Aussie swimmers get jobs doing commercials in Australia? Most swimmers in the USA are unknown after the Olympics. Many people don't watch the Olympics anymore. I don't remember watching any from the last winter Olympics. I'm tired of watching Aussies win in swimming and Jamaicans winning in track. OK in those countries sports is "the opiate of the masses". Sort of like "bread and circuses" in Rome in ancient days. Maybe there isn't much to do in Australia at a pool other than swimming. I go in the pool to cool off and maybe do some stretches and move around. Then I go to the hot tub (jacuzzi). Now jacuzzi sitting is my kind of sport. Sometimes I also play catch with a nerf ball or pool toy. Swimming laps is WORK!

    • @SwimSwamTV
      @SwimSwamTV  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      ...swimming leads the telecast of the Olympics and commands the largest audience. It's why there is going to be a 9th day of swimming at the Paris2024 Olympic Games (up from 8 days). You can watch from your jacuzzi since that's your chosen sport. I may do the same (this is Mel, btw). Swimmers and $$$? Surprisingly the top 30 elite globally do make good coin. At one point the top 10 swimmer were all making over a million per year with race winnings, sponsorships and some national gov body support.

    And no, I don't appreciate the population disparity. Success is not based on population size, but national passions. If population was dispositive, India and China would be leading everything. This population talking point the Aussies trot out is illogical nonsense. The USMNT has not won a world cup despite our country size. On the other hand, tiny Jamaica produces exceptional sprinters. Unlike some countries, we do not have a singular or dominant national sport. We are good at many things, & it is not simply down to our size.

    • @SwimSwamTV

      large populations feeding into a sport matters. Of course smaller nations have the benefit of more focus and development.

    • @panner11
      @panner11 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I agree that national passion and quality of the national program is a bigger factor but of course both are factors. A larger population is still a big advantage. But what's more important than the population itself is size of available population. In the US, many parents support sports programs for kids, in countries like China and India, that percentage is much much smaller. So the actual size of the talent pool to draw from in those countries is not necessarily bigger despite huge populations.

    Spoiled and entitled sums up the US team. Participation trophies and being told that you are special didn’t do anyone any favors. Being able to handle loss and deal with adversity are necessary life skills. Life is tougher for most people than it ever will be for this team. “Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.” We have “first world problems” and aren’t facing any real adversity so people are inventing problems due to a real lack of meaning in life. This has been exacerbated by so many people not raising children. Too many younger people also want a good living handed to them without wanting to bust their butts to get there. We have a skilled economy now and isn’t like it used to be where you could make a good living without skills. People are breaking the doors down to get into this country so if you’re complaining about how hard you have it, go to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central America and then you can realize how great we have it here. This is the only country where the opportunity is there to be successful if you step out of your comfort zone and go to the ends of the earth to develop skills.
