  • In this episode I will show you how to quickly install drawer slides. This method is the easiest, fastest and most accurate way that I have found to install drawer slides. You can accurately install a drawer slide in about 2min.
All you need is a crap piece of lumber, tape mesure and a miter saw. You will use these tools to cut your lumber to the height you want your slide to be. You don't need to purchase any jig or additional tools to properly install a drawer slide.

Cool idea....but... let's assume all of the draws are the same size (height)... Why not then cut the scrap of wood to the height that you need between each slide. That way you can use your scrap of wood and drill the slides in from the bottom, up. No need to constantly cut the wood. Just place the same piece on the slide you just drilled below and set the next slide above it...rinse and repeat.
Things do get trickier when the draws are at different heights, but I guess my interpretation would still apply.... unless every single draw is of a different height.
Thanks for the video. I was actually watching some other stuff on cabinet making and found your video. Nice work.

On the first ones I did the wood dust/swarf from drilling through the runner tended to clog up the ball bearings a bit, so now I use a centre punch to mark the holes, then remove the runner from the jig and drill the holes. Finally, brush away any wood dust and install the runners.

if using self close slides then i suggest making a jig with a base that is 9 in wide and about 28 in long 3/4 plywood with and 3/4 in rise at the front end of the jig and 5/8 to make flush to faceframe when drawer is closed ,1 in wide partiion to seperate left from right sidethe slide should be cut 3/4 in shy of backof the cabinet (1 in if dadoed ) on 3/4 in plywood 4 in wide by depth of cabinet -3/4 in to 1 in with a 3/4 in scrap piece of plywood to fit the gap and level to the drawer slides will never pull out with this method due to it being braced by face and back of cabinet the slide should be level with the bottom of the plywood its being screwed to and the drawer is alreadey 3/8 to 1/2 in from bottom of face frame partition so the slide runner can be flush to the drawe's bottom and face

Awesome technique and works perfectly. Just wondered if those runners can be installed flat/horizontal, to allow a worktop to slide forward slightly off the top of a cabinet? It's something i'm considering for easy access down the back between cupboard and the wall. Sadly I can't put them on the edges and prefer the worktop to slide neatly without wobbling and rubbing the cabinets either side. It would only need to slide forward 200mm. I could make slide rails out of hardboard but these runners look robust. Appreciate your thoughts 🙂

@@HowYouCanMakeIt i think it would work but risky to put pressure on when overhanging the edge. I basically have some short cabinets that aren't very deep and thought it be handy to store items behind them rather than cut the worktop to fit. The runners would raise the worktop by 12-13mm, where as hardboard sliding rails would only raise it by 4mm and be cheaper 😃

Need piano to be back towards the back of the desk, then pull box on slides to edge of the desk, slides in box extend out 12" so the piano can be played. Unable to get advice on the best sliders to use, meaning the under the desk part, pretty straight forward, however when it comes to pulling out another set of slides, they need to be able to handle the weight, not wobble up-down left-right. How do you get the measurments for the wood to attach the slides to any drawer?

    • @HowYouCanMakeIt

It is based of the drawer height and I just put the slide in the middle of the drawer.

I don’t know how much help I can be. Usually you can look up the manufacture online and get some type of installation guide.

how about the sizes of drawers where to base the following sliding roller or the next height of your next plywood below where to lay the next roller to be screwed?

    • @HowYouCanMakeIt
      @HowYouCanMakeIt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

you can make the drawers any size you want you just have to do some math and do some division to know how to space everything. I used a 3D program called SketchUp.

Nice trick, but I've noticed that drawer slides dont even have to be perfectly leveled (with each other) to function; they just need to be semi close to the pull and individually leveled. Just to test, I've purposely didnt make my slides leveled with each other and they function just fine. Thanks too, looks more pro this way for sure.

What do you do if the base of your cabinet is not level? Meaning a piece of wood cut to the height of the base of the drawer slide may need to be different from the left slides to the right slides to be level.

    • @HowYouCanMakeIt

    • @HowYouCanMakeIt

I measured the side of the drawer box and placed each slide in the center. I then subtracted that dimension from the over all cabinet inside height.
