I actually just got this for the Wii on my Wii U(cause it's too hard to find otherwise). I feels awesome to have, and I think it's fine on whatever console you get it on, but does have it's flaws. Now, this is just from a pure gameplay point of view, it's feel sorta underwhelming to play on the Wii. Let me explain: When I 1st played it, I could play it with the wiimote since that's all I had. Movement was sensitive and some attacks didn't go thru cause I guess it didn't recognize my gestures. Luckily, it's control options for Classic and GameCube controllers. I got the Classic controller. 2nd time playing was a better time, but still had it's flaws. I could how I wanted without dashing all over the place, and I could pick my attacks properly. However, the Classic controllers doesn't have rumblen unlike the wiimote(for some reason), so attacks didn't have that same immersion to it. Going up and down this time was weird, cause with the Wiimote I could do that without shooting thru the straosphere, but on classic, up was way too sensitive, so I overshot my enemy a lot. And regardless of which control options you use, you don't have L3 or R3(clicking the thumbsticks). Nintendo be weird. I don't know how it feels with the GameCube controller, but it does have rumble, it's wired, and the button layout is different from others from that time. I picked the Classic pro controllers cause it looked the most ps2. So while it felt underwhelming to control, I still had a rush playing it, and it feels great to actually own. If you have a Wii just lying around, I'd give it a shot, with the Classic or GameCube controller of course. Or just emulate, not that I condone emulation(cough, cough). You can actually use the controller suited for you, and it has a dedicated community that's expanded it waaay passed it peak.
You have to go to the sensitivity settings its harder with the Wiimote if you’re playing against someone who isn’t using a Wiimote lol. I got decently good at it as a kid but my little brother preferred the GameCube controller, he was like 10 at the time so it made it worth the challenge. He got insanely good when I went off to college lmao. I never won again cause he basically trained until I got back
You and I went thru almost the exact same motions while trying to find the optimal way to play this game. Wii version is so underrated, when it's objectively the better one, I'd say the only aspect where the PS2 wins is in modding, but then that's something by the community, independently from what the actual game was intended to be so it doesn't really count
For sure. The graphics were slightly better, it had online vs mode (an old game so it didn’t have the best connection, but was fun when it did work), shaking the controller>rolling an analogue stick, motion controls were really fun, and the Wii controller inputs felt easier to remember, and you of course had the option to play with the GameCube controller if the Wii controller wasn’t your thing. Honestly the Wii version overall was undeniably the best way to play this game.

I felt nostalgia for this game and wanted to play it. Unfortunately the PS2 version looks like hot garbage, even on a CRT. I remember it being much nicer.
