    This video shows how we have changed 120 volt "Ryobi" Charger to 220-230 volts and looks that this is simplest way. Now it's works well and stable. By the factory, there is voltage doubler installed inside. We just have changed such douybler to regular rectifier, only by cutting the foil on Ryobi charger electric plate and just changed varistor to higher voltage. That's all.

    You don't need to damage the PCB. There is a jumper wire between the diodes that you can cut instead.

      So if i cut the wire, and change waristor i can use with 230v?

    You don't need to cut the trace on the bottom of the board. Cut the jumper between the two pairs of diodes instead. Does the same thing.

    How the output voltage remains the same when we increase the input voltage. Why does the output voltage not increase as the input voltage increases? E.g. for 110V the output is 20V and for 220V the output should be 40V.

    I bought my ryobi cordless drill in US and I'm about to use it here in qatar, I forgot that the voltage is different, I plug it directly to 220v. now for sure it is damage. Just want to ask if what is the extent of the damage? Is it only the varistor as mention in your video in which supposed to be replaced first before using?

    Just not enough to cut. You must connect 150kOhm resistors in both capacitors for balanced charging. Or can explode one of two capacitors.

    • @MagicznaPanda
      @MagicznaPanda 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, it might not work, because 220V is just the RMS value of voltage. With a varistor, you need to look at the *peak* voltage - or in other words, the RMS value multiplied by the root of 2.
      For 220V RMS, the peak would be 310V. For 230V it'd be 325V.
