This is a film made by William Timpson Limited in the mid 1960's at our Northpark factory in Kettering and our Corby factory. It shows how various types of shoes are made.

When I was fourteen I feel I love with the "Royals Range" Of shoes that Timpson did , rumour has it that they were originally made for export to America which would explain the welt around the sides I had the brogues, smooths & the Gibsons , how I wish I could get the same quality now , they've tried to replicate them but I've never seen any to match Timpsons in either style or quality , if any one knows where you can get similar please tell me.
I believe the Royals were standard (not premium) Goodyear Welted shoes and their price of in the late 1960s of around £7 to £8 would equate to about £250 to £300 nowadays. There are a huge range of Goodyear Welted construction shoes in the £150 to £300 price range, made by British brands like Loake and Barkers and Spanish brands like Berwick 1707. Have a look at Loake Chester or Birkdale models or Barker Calvay or an example of an American Longwing style which I believe was one of the Timpson Royal styles. You could also google "Berwick 1707" 2562 or 3681 for versions at the lower end of that price range.
I too had wingtips, plain caps and gibsons, all bought down Petticoat Lane in 1968-70. Closest I’ve come to a really well made wingtip is a Florsheim Imperial. Bought 2 pairs in ‘93 and they’re still going strong.
@@Beeza56 I used go to petticoat Lane around that time, if I think hard enough I can remember/feel the atmosphere it was a great place , I bought some brogues tapered shirts , and a particularly nice prince of Wales jacket there in that period.
I know the feeling, as my father worked for over 43 years at one employer. Upon retiring, my father was presented with a clock which my Dad gifted to me. It’s a very sentimental piece, which I treasure.

Timpsons is no longer there. The factory was demolished quiet a few years ago

my dad worked there when it was timpson's and when he left he got a gold watch and i'v still got it
