Kit Kat is pronounced as "kitto katto" in Japanese, which sounds similar to "kitto katsu" which means "you will surely win". Because of this, they were often given as good luck gifts, particularly to students before exams. There is also a tradition of bringing back souvenirs (omiyage) as gifts to family or co-workers when traveling. Kit Kat capitalized on this by selling different limited-edition regional varieties of Kit Kats which would be ideal for gifts to bring back home.
Loved this video! What a great way to end Japan-have to admit I laughed out loud when you said you were stressed - you wonderfully navigated a foreign country but found it hard to spend 8K in yen. Admire you for sticking to your parameters-I would have gone to some designer store and spent it all on a pair of socks!
@@sgalligan HAHA if I had space in my suitcase, I definitely would have grabbed a Pikachu or something cool but lack of space and lack of needing anything was a struggle 😂 but I’m happy with my choices!
@@carolleiter6027 in the video it may seem like I was going fast but it felt like I was in there for hours 😂 I was pretty much looking at price tags and ignoring anything that was over 8K 🤣
Haha, Ben ! Save some for Taipei, a city most tourists love to visit ! Actually, Japan makes the best electronics in the world ! It is cheaper to buy them overseas than in Japan !
In America with nine floors, I don’t think putting the expensive stuff in the bottom floor would be the smartest thing. It would be the easiest to run out the door with. But of course, in Japan.
Couple times they just gave us stuff in the sealed tax free bags we had intended to use in Japan. We opened them, there was no enforcement. Very much the honor system.
