- This is one of the best version's of the fields of athenry i have heard it's from the movie Veronica Guerin i have added some pic's from the movie and there's a couple of photo's of the real Veronica. R.I.P You will alway's be remembered
Veronica Guerin was shot dead by irish drug dealer's On June 26, 1996, while Guerin was sitting in her red Opel Calibra at an intersection on the Naas Dual Carriageway, a few miles outside Dublin, one of two men sitting on a motorcycle beside her car fatally shot her five times. Guerin's murder caused outrage, and Taoiseach John Bruton called it "an attack on democracy". The following criminal investigation led to over 150 arrests and a hunt against Irish organised criminal gangs.
I’m from Northern Ireland and far from Irish. When I watched this film and this little nipper sang this song at the end, nothing but goosebumps !
your Irish ur deluded mad thing. U were born on the island of Ireland ur then Irish u melt
I'm from Northern Ireland but far from Irish? Hahajah u fucken spastic can u hear urself u fucken English wan ker
You’re probably a good man, as most of us are on both sides
My feelings exactly 😢
I'm from n.ireland and identify as Irish but I've got a lot of friends who don't. They love this version. It's just a heart wrenching version and although I know there'll always be differences in opinion in the North, we can't deny that the premise of this song is heartbreaking and all too true. It wasn't only the Irish that were sent to Australia. It was English too, and people need to remember that.
The very best version of Fields of Athenry I've ever heard, and believe me I've heard them all, this arrangement is outstanding, and the Childs little voice, well, say no more!!!
I agree
I once read - and I can't swear in court that this is true, I'm a regular-ass Joe Sixpack American that just read this on the Internet - but I read that one of the people who made the Veronica Guerin movie, one of the Bosses, just randomly heard this little kid singing in the street somewhere in Ireland, basically looking for a dollar or two for food ... and the dude was so moved by the way he sang, he basically was like , "I'll do you one better, I want you to come sing this for me for a movie, and I'll give you a *lot more* than a buck or two..." ... Not sure if it's true but it's a damn good story if so.💚🤍🧡
I just stumbled upon this film, and it touched me dearly. The fact that anyone would speak negative about this situation, or this woman, is ridiculous. If one doesn't fight for what they believe in, and stand for a better life for all, then why bother? She didn't die a marter, she died a reporter, believing in her job, and herself, and her country. If only there were people like her in the U.S., maybe we'd be a better country! Blessings to her family!!! And the ladd singing as well.
From Hungary. It is the 1000's time I listen to this. Only childish anger can bring us love.
Have commented before. Remember when I saw this film and the child's voice gave me chills, still does. This is the best, most heartfelt version I've ever heard, RIP Veronica Guerin and her family, what a brave woman!
I have heard this being sung by tens of thousands of football fans at Anfield stadium in Liverpool as I have passed by.
I knew it was an Irish song because virtually every family in Liverpool has some Irish parent, grandparents, great grandparents, Gt Gt grandparents, in laws, etc. The city is almost part of Ireland because it is so close to Dublin and the East coast of Ireland and even the local accent is supposed to be a mix of the various Irish accents and the local Lancashire/North West England accent. It sounds completely different to cities and towns a few dozen miles away from Liverpool (Manchester has a different accent from both Liverpool and the surrounding industrial towns and cities in Lancashire and West Yorkshire etc, but the Manchester accent sometimes sounds a lot like the scouse accent, probably because hundreds of thousands of Irish immigrants have settled in Manchester since the mid 19th century onwards, and they have influenced the local Mancunian dialect over the generations.
Is anyone still listing song in 2024 this is a great song
Veronica Guerin was a friend of my Uncle's and a parishioner at his Church. He said the Mass at her funeral. He passed away last week at an early age, I'm stuck in Atlanta without a passport and didn't make it back home for his funeral !. I love you Uncle Declan you will forever remain in our hearts. Rest in Peace !
kevin gorman why are you talking about your uncle fake
kevin gorman I’m so sorry for your loss brother.
kevin gorman prayers from your Hibernian brother in Ohio.
@Kevin gorman- Don't know if your statement is true but if so, how did you feel about Blanchett's portrayal?
@@judepierse2883 you gonna be like that then jog on would u like it if someone said it was fake if ur uncle died
that child is a the best singer of that song ever
Yes, that song requires a certain raw emotion and down-to-earthness which very few singers have. And I thought the instrumental arrangement for this film was very moving and inspiring
Do we know the singer - the child - this version -I want to download this song
@@Tdreaddy singers name?
@@Cheese2life he's name is Brian odonnell a traveller from dublin
Absolutely!! I cry every time I hear this version!!!
The greatest weapon against the Irish drug dealers was a mother and her pen. A great woman.
Yes
And God bless
I remember my mum watching this and thos version has jist stuck with me .💚
If this song doesn't break your heart whenever you hear it, you can't have one in your chest worth breaking. An amazing rendition.
this is the most haunting version of this song that I have ever heard...a truly fitting memorial for this remarkable woman.
this song is singed by a kid, found by the movie producers during the filmation, while walking on the street; this was a kid that singed for money, and they felt in love with his voice, and invited (and payed) him to sing for the movie; you can read about this in the IMDB site, searching for the page, and looking at the movie trivia.
She was a real crime reporter unlike Paul Williams ,Veronica wrote the story , Williams published big pics of gangsters he's part of the problem , I've been in shops and young teens coming in quick get the paper Williams will have the pics. And when he confronted John Gilligan he did that because he has Garda protection ,he hadn't the balls to confront him when he was dealing . Veronica Guerin R.I.P you will always be remembered
Great song....I'm a unionist and loyalist....and I can appreciate this song in all its versions....also....Veronica was a very brave woman, some may say foolish.....
yes fool
Nice point,. Thank you for sharing. I'm Irish living in NI.
Now more than ever we need people like her.
This was a street kid they found at the time of making this fantastic movie. Veronica Guerin was the BEST!! RIP Brave One ❤❤❤
That's correct. He used to sing on Grafton St. Then this movie was made and they asked him to record for a few days. I don't know the guys name, but I really hope he's done well for himself. He was really nice when I met him, I walked that street for 4 years going to School. Great Song, and Sadly, John G is out and trying to live a life, never mind the many he took through drugs. But fuck, that's our Justice system..
that boy is Brian o'donnell my uncle he's very well he has 4 kids
yup Brian O Donnell
@@johnjoyce772 really?... His voice gives me goosebumps the best version of the song by far 🇮🇪
Cate Blanchett(An Australian) played the part of Veronica Guerin brillianty and her Dublin Accent was spot on. R.I.P Veronica, The people who killed you will eventually have to answer to The Man Upstairs
in my whole lifetime this is the one of the most bravest woman of ever heard of
It was only a film mate.
She obviously wasn't a real person..
@@kingston2411 I hope you’re joking
@Kingston I take you are not from Ireland them because course she is real she is woman that stood up to lot dangerous people but in the end lost her life for it
this version chokes up me up even more than usual
It wss Brian O'Donnell that sang the song and I believe he was a tinker's son. My mom is a retired opera singer and we both agree that his untrained voice is extraordinary. Straight from the heart.
The little boy singer is great his singing with heart no instruments required. I know it's a powerful song for the Irish. We saw the movie in a remote town in South Australia we we're all sober , not a dry eye in the room. R. I. P Veronica. Australia
I'm irish and this child makes me feel proud to be :)
The best version of this song 👌🏼
I like this version, it's sad and hopeful at the same time. Different from hearing the other artists sing it. This one somehow holds more meaning to it.
Beautiful Thanks ❤️💪🏻🇮🇪👍🏻☘️☘️☘️
If you listen to this and don’t get goosebumps constantly then I don’t know what to tell you..
I'm ex British Army and this is a lovely song by a kid with a voice of an angel .
my dad was British Forces too and we lived there during the troubles. It was horrible watching the news and wondering if dad would make it home that day, my school mates asked what he did, to him he was a plumber.
PS my dad was Royal Signals.
I can imagine you either love or hate the boys sound. For me it's the combination and contrast with the strings that makes this song so beautiful. Also the impact of the movie helps. Irish style music is the most emotional in the world, at least to me.
The last true journalist in this country. Fantastic lady
i have watched the film over and over brave woman but unfortunately there are more drugs and dealers now than there was back then .......rip veronica
the boy singing is brian odonnell he lives in rathcoole dublin hes married and is strung out on drugs now himself he was in dublin singing this song and the producer recorded him for the movie hes 2 brothers are in jail now for selling drugs and his two brothers anthony and john are dead r.i.p boys
nicole mcdonagh what a lie
Luv this Song. I watched the Movie, And had to look up this song.

My upmost respect goes out to veronica she was a absolute legend.

Great movie about an even greater Woman. Good journey Veronica. Thanks for the Video. God bless Ireland and Germany. ( and the rest of the World ;-) )
Perfection, this song, the woman herself, the movie, and hope Ireland has truly stopped these absolute scumbags from existing. To Veronica’s son, you suffered the biggest loss please know we all around the world have benefited from her sacrifice and her bravery. What a beautiful brilliant mum you had.
31 Drugdealers disliked this!
I was No.1000 to Thumbs Up this song.
Why isn't this on spotify it's so great 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪✝️✝️✝️✝️
i think the child sang it beautiful, after all it was only a child.
Christine R. The child that sang this song was singing it on the streets of Dublin City busking away. That's how he was discovered. Someone from the production crew of the film spent months trying to find him to sing it for the film. That's a fact.
+Kevin Finegan that's right this boy singing is my cousin Brian he's about 29 now
Brian Mcdonagh 29??? Fucking hell. He's just a young fella singing this. The years just fly by.
+Brian Mcdonagh How is he doing now? I always remembered this version of the song, passed the buskers in Dublin many a time, always wondered did I pass this young soul.. Hope he is doing well?
@Kevin Finegan-I read about him and the crew trying to find him to sing it as well as the Director trying, that was a great story and a great movie RIP Veronica Guerin
Feel more proud to be Irish whenever I hear this song 🇮🇪☘❤ fair play to that kid 👏 and R.I.P Veronica 💚
@@lorcankerry2110 cheers for correcting me i never minded it tbh went back and edit it...cheers lad
@@lorcankerry2110 why delete just the matter of editing it its ok now 👌
Rip to Veronica Guerin great reporter
the best version of this song. NOTHING else can compare.
Beautiful song..brings a lump to my throat everytime
I love this young man's rendition of this song.
Beautiful Song !!!
When I first saw this movie in the theatre in Toronto, I did not know who Cate Blanchett was & I said to my Canadian wife: "Who is this new Dub actress, she's brilliant?" OK, so I am not a moviaphile. Anyway, Cate should have been Oscar nominated for that role - she convinced me, a Dub, that she was a real Dub (way better than Colin Farrell with his Castleknock accent trying to be a real Dub!).
Dub ??
bishdiane dub short for dublin
who sings this song :O best version i eva heard :D
i love this song and it is by far my favourite version of the fields of athenry ann i think it went perfect in the movie
This gives me goosebumps
"All souls are immortal, but the souls of the righteous are immortal and divine"
yea...but what was this song, nice and all, doing on this movie? what had it to do with Veronica Guerin?
You can download the song from limewire. and so on
I have told the story about this young knacker on other postings. Actually, he would'nt be a young kid any more. Obviously he would have grown a lot taller by now. He received 500 Euro from the Producers of the movie for singing this song. It was a steal because if he had proper legal representation, he would have received 1 Euro for each time the movie was shown. The Movie was a blockbuster. Do the Math, 1 Euro for each time the movie was shown World wide. it is even on TV these days.
I cannot find this version on Itunes. I cannot find it anywhere...I don't want to buy the soundtrack for this one song...Any suggestions?
Veronica Guerin a fearless human being.RESPECT!!!!
great version of the song, anyone know the name of the lad singing it
go on yirsell wee man...great stuff!!!wish i cud here this wee fellow beltin that oot in the street's of glasgow every weekend...
This film is so powerful and this song is haunting as you realise Veroncia Guerin has been killed but left such a powerful legacy such a inspirational woman R I P 💚💚💚💚
Read all about this at the time. We need more like her. So sorry, love from America. Love all the music. ty Ireland Stand tall.
Such a sad song and even more of a sad story. I loved the movie and respect Veronica Guerin for her brave work. RIP.......
This song is called The Fields of Athenry.
Written by Pete St John
just watched it again...so amazing!
This American couldn't agree with you more. God Bless Ireland.
Just divine song. Sad, but divine
This version of this song is the bestest best ever everytime i hear it the hair stands on the back of the next... turely brilliant
I think that every journalist should be required to see this movie and understand that it is this type of devotion and commitment to your occupation that makes the profession meaningful. This is a woman that used her position to help change her country for the better.
So many journalist or so called, care less about morals or humanity. it is all about themselves.
Brillant Song, Beautiful Version..
Proud to be Irish!!
Great, unforgetable movie👏❤♥💛💙💖💚🌹
the singer was a young traveler that use to sing near the top of o connel street you'd hear him from miles away excellent singer
Thanks for the info..........off to try and buy a copy somewhere!!!

beautyfull song and an awesome movie
@cameramanAL hmmmm, I see your point about the individual rebelling against a structure of powerful and cruel people.
Yea me too, The Fields Of Athenry is the most heartening song I have ever, or will ever hear!
I enjoyed the video. I found it both sad and inspirational
@PiNkpRo The song is sung in the movie Veronica Guerin, by Brian O'Donnell i think
What a magical lady taking to early ,,R.I.P,,👣👣👣
Song is amazing helped me true a lot as I grew up in Dublin knowing what it’s about and knowing about the real Veronica geurin you don’t realise unless you seen the film and knew about the real Veronica geurin👌🏻
💗🙏🕊
@padraigdonohoe
There used to be an intersection located there at Clondalkin. We passed by the car, covered in a green tarpaulin, on that day. We only found out later who it was and what had happened.
A brave woman.
It was for her career and fame 👍
Drugs are a blight on our society, some see an easy money maker without any consequences, others have to deal with those consequences and try to do something about it.
The outcome remains the same, people get hurt in some way shape or form, but the battle continues and it begs the question....why do people take up drugs, are they looking for something? Are we too preoccupied with what looks good so there's no real substance to our lives and family units?
Powerful song when put with this film
r.i.p. veronica. who is the boy that sings this?
Does anyone know this kids name?? Heard him sing a few songs.
i love this version! the movie of veronica guerin is sooo sad! R.I.P VERONICA x
@shnitzel189 Se she should have stopped and gave in to the drug barons and the filth that caused the deaths of so many young people. She knew what she was doing, she gave her life to save others. She deserves our eternal thanks.
She gave her BEAUTIFUL LIFE, to change people less off than hers .Veronica a super hero ❤
The singer was from a travelling family. Personally I think the fact that this bairn was from a race often ostracised, often victimised summed up exactly what Veronica was about.
She lived her life to save bairns like the singer in the song. That's why his inclusion is so important.
A 10-year old Dublin street singer called Brian O'Donnell. Apparently, composer Gregson-Williams heard young O'Donnell singing for money on the streets of Dublin when he was visiting Schumacher's set, and subsequently sent a friend of his brother Rupert's to go back to Dublin and record this boy's unnatural talent.
beautiful song
very moving version of a lovely song
God bless her for the hard work that she done
who sings this? a brilliant version........must have it!!!!
rest in peace dear lady
Gives me goosebumps! Beautiful
So sad and tragic story...And this touching little boy's voice tears my heart further into pieces...R.I.P. brave daughter of Ireland...
