Cate Blanchett was stellar in her role. This is one of the most compelling movies I've watched this year. How heart-breaking though that the lives of the journalists are being threatened for uncovering the truth. It happened then, it still happens now.

I don't know if your country restricts you from seeing all the caption options? But for this film there is captioning available in 17 languages, just like with most movies I see. Sometimes older movies or certain filmmakers, and also sometimes certain TH-cam channels do not offer captions; but the ones I have checked in the last year usually have quite a lot of options like this film. Yes, 16 of those languages have captioning provided by Automated Translation through AI and computer. Companies are not interested in paying people a working wage any longer, so they definitely don't want to pay 17 different people to add captions in 17 different languages. Therefore those captions are not 100% perfect, but they are certainly good enough for me to follow along in the five languages I have used from this list. Perhaps you are not correctly accessing the list in order to see all 17 of the captioning language options?? I hope your country is not blocking all of these options for you!! Let me describe to you how I find them. First, I am on my phone. I look for the gear ⚙️ icon, and I touch it. Then I choose "Captions." After you select Captions, you will see the choice of having English captions, or else click on the Auto Translate captions option, if you do not want English captions. Once you click on Auto translate, you will see 16 more languages to choose from. One of them is Japanese. This is the basic way to find captions on nearly every film. Sometimes they don't have 16 or 17 options but merely 4, 6 or 8. But it is always by following the same steps that you will find ALL the available captioning language options. Please keep in mind that Auto - translate means it is automated and translated based on sound, and what the computer is able to hear. Different accents or background sounds can interfere with accurate translations. Realize it will only be about 80-90% correct, but that is quite sufficient to understand the storyline and make educated guesses for the rest. Film companies are not interested in putting physical captions on the Films any longer, beyond one or two language options which are usually quite regional. So we are stuck with auto translate and AI/computerized translations to have multiple caption options. Hopefully this helps you!

Veronica Guerin is a martyr for the good of Ireland. This movie is a tear jerker. Veronica deserves to be admired for her courage and determination. Her death brought about a reduction of the crime rate and laws to enforce the seizure of the assets of criminals.
28 years later only the players have changed and the issues remain as stronger than ever. We need a global effort to end the drug war and regulate the manufacturing and distribution as required for an ever growing public demand for these substances.

Hard drugs, especially with unregulated purity are also dangerous, but they sell because millions of people enjoy their effects. The regulations have far more to do with an ever growing and privatized prison system and politics than anything else. Just as with alcohol and alcoholism during prohibition, cocaine and heroin usage went up when people were told they couldn't have it. It should never be the job of any government to dictate what adults may or may not put into their own bodies. History shows that Nixon started the drug war largely out of unfounded personal paranoia. This could be turned around, and lives saved by legalization and pharmaceutical manufacturing where dosage is precisely regulated . A trillion dollar illegal industry would be rendered impotent almost overnight just as was the case with the illegal manufacturing and distribution of alcohol. Unfortunately Poppy and Coka is cultivated by the poors in Asia and South America ,so will be impossible for them to stop growing them since they survive from it,and it’s an extremely high earning business for traffickers and finally and sadly,demand for heroin and cocaine keep on rising world wide ,consumers are getting younger!It,s almost an impossible task to get rid of them !!!

And nothing has changed re: drugs - in fact its got way worse :( With fentanyl and tent cities and thousands upon thousands dying from drug overdoses worldwide...and the drug lords continue to get away with it.

I was 16 when she died and was on a bus heading for dublin ,seen the car and remembered the fear , course i didn't know till i seen the news till that evening,so sad brave lady she didn't deserve what happened to her ❤

I drove from Naas Road into Clondalkin at Newlands Cross less than an hour before she was killed. It's amazing how the film makers couldn't find anyone ugly enough to portray 'dutchy' Holland accurately....... the editorialization at the end not too hot ...... Her death, the exploding crime rates, the YEARS of the epidemic heroine explosion and the growth of a guttersnipe-third generation unemployable crime lords AND the COMPLETE impunity with which they acted were entirely due to the inaction, dis-interest and incompetence of Ireland's ''''police''' farce. When Concerned Parents Against Drugs took to the streets and tried to protect their communities - the same "police" farce turned on THEM - while the drug gangs and their pushers were let ply their trade with impunity. I remember around that time, a public statement from the then Comissioner of the Irish "police' farce threatening CPAD and that they wouldn't stand for "vigilantism" - while his force did NOTHING.

A man can always do good for society without endangering himself or his family. She could have lost her kid and husband in that dangerous reckless act. Drugs and drug dealers are a never ending story. She put her work before her family despite the urges of her husband and family to leave and despite the threats; how selfish and blind a human being can be.
With that mindset, a society can never bring a drastic change. Yes, one can do good things without endangering himself or his family, but to bring a radical Reformation or to redeem a society that is rapidly degrading with evils, certain bold sacrifices are required, at times that may include sacrificing one's life. One can't bring an effective change by living within one's comfort zone.
I used to read her articles, and it was obvious she was dealing with some very dangerous people, but nobody thought that they would go that far and be that stupid. Ireland is not the US, gun crime is very rare, rare enough that you get a movie made about you.

That's where this film made a very slight mistake............In Ireland, we call them "garda" (singular) or "gardaí" (plural, pronounced "gardee").

A man can always do good for society without endangering himself or his family. She could have lost her kid and husband in that dangerous reckless act. Drugs and drug dealers are a never ending story. She put her work before her family despite the urges of her husband and family to leave and despite the threats; how selfish and blind a human being can be.
With that mindset, a society can never bring a drastic change. Yes, one can do good things without endangering himself or his family, but to bring a radical Reformation or to redeem a society that is rapidly degrading with evils, certain bold sacrifices are required, at times that may include sacrificing one's life. One can't bring an effective change by living within one's comfort zone.
I used to read her articles, and it was obvious she was dealing with some very dangerous people, but nobody thought that they would go that far and be that stupid. Ireland is not the US, gun crime is very rare, rare enough that you get a movie made about you.
