  • Remembering Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge over Troubled Water.
Simon & Garfunkel were an American duo from the early 1960s to the early 1970s. Although they did come together a few times after that in each of the following Decades. The two guys in the duo were of course Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. They had so many great songs, but my personal favourites are "I am a Rock", "The Boxer", "El cóndor pasa (If I Could)", "The Sound of Silence", "Homewood Bound", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Mrs Robinson", "Scarborough Fair" and "Cecilia". Here I have a Remix of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" showing the River Derwent in Hobart, Tasmania and the Tasman Bridge.
It was too windy to talk live on the video, so I decided to do it as Remix and put up the Captions.
It shows the awesome Mt Wellington overlooking the City of Hobart, and the Tasman Bridge.
The Tasman Bridge is 5 lanes wide. They change the lane configurations for 3 lanes into the city in the morning, and 3 lanes out of the city in the afternoons.
The Bridge opened in August 1964. It is 1.4km in length and 61m high. It carries over 80,000 cars a day.
On the night of 5th January 1975 a 140m long Bulk Carrier Ship collided with the middle two piers of the Bridge, causing 127m of the middle section of the Bridge to collapse.
The ship sunk and 7 crew members died. 4 cars fell off the bridge and 5 motorists died in the incident. The Bridge took 2 years to be reconstructed and reopened in October 1977.
The Ferry called The "Spirit of Hobart" is also shown in this video.
