    Dear Sir, I have a similar problem with a trailer crane where it just doesn’t pump. It came to me completely dry of oil and had been sitting around a workshop unused for several years. Hopefully the replacement of the O-ring on the piston rod will do the trick. It makes sense to me but we will see. Firstly I am off to buy one of those neat hook tools for removing O-rings and we will see. It it works, I will be very grateful. Cheers.
    LATE ADDITION:
    Its five hours later and with hook tools in hand I replaced the O-ring. No difference. I then pulled apart the piston housing and found a little metal device with two holes, springs in each hole and two ball bearings - one pointing upwards and the other downwards. These were obviously the gate valves for the pumping and filling cycles of the piston mechanism. I poked around with the ball bearings and they seemed to be free-er in movement. Drained the oil for good measure. Put everything back together and partially filled. WORKED - YIPEE! Filled with oil and STOPPED WORKING. Blast!
    I’m not going to let this beast beat me. I’m going to drain the cylinder of air {as per other TH-cams}. This did something.
    Try again - IT WORKED. Pumped it all the way to the heavens and waiting to see if it leaks overnight. So far so good.
    Thank you to the twenty plus TH-cam’rs who contributed to my rapid accretion of knowledge this week culminating in a complete novice effecting a repair on a non-functional crane jack.

    Your issue just solved a problem I've had forever on a kendon motorcycle lift. The jack would go up so far, loose stoke then eventually stop going higher. Air was getting into the system and I kept thinking it wasn't enough fluid. Over filling didn't help. Part of the problem is that the jack arm is actuated by a rod and as the lift goes up, the angle between the rod and the jack becomes less parallel. The rod pushes the arm at an angle. The increased angle cased the O ring to suck air on the rod. Installing a new slightly larger O ring fixed the problem..

    I am a hydraulic jack technician.
    Air is contained in the cylinder.
    Raise the ram to the highest position once.
    Next, loosen the release and lower it to the lowest position.
    Add oil until oil tank hole position.
    If you do this twice, it will be normal.

    So as best I can tell, even though an o ring might look okay, in this case it was causing the problem?

      They usually will be deformed in some way or hard if they are causing the problem.

    Hi I came a cross your video, maybe you seen this problem before, I have a motorcycle/atv lift, small one rolls under bike. That jack has a side spring on it that helps I guess for lower Jack. It has a foot pump and and a foot release to lower. I filled up with oil, now I try to bleed, no matter how I try to push in on release, so I can pump without jack going up to bleed. That jack keeps pumping up. Then when it's up it keeps creeping down I guess with the help of that side spring. I tried pumping it up half way flipping it upside down pushing down on it, then flip it back over, and then purging air out of rubber grommet on side of Jack, got a little air out. But what I ever I do to bleed it keeps creeping down with no load on it. Just the side spring. Please help if you can, thank you

  • @hnajee
    @hnajee 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very educational. If one stores a bottle jack on its side does it damage it? Irreparably?

  • @INTERNATIONAL_RDF-D
    @INTERNATIONAL_RDF-D 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve got a 20 ton jack that won’t pump up .... cylinder is fully compressed
    The pump is good. I’ve bled it even drained it completely.... refilled it. Left the bleeder valve out....and pumped it. Fluid will shoot out of the bleeder hole. But the cylinder will not raise........ jack was free. Since I have a couple trucks that weight 6 tons and close to 10 tons I figured it would be a nice thing to have.......

    • @SoatMon
      @SoatMon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds like the valve that you turn to let it down is not closing. If you screw it all the way out there is usually a small ball bearing in there that actually makes the seal. I bet someone lost that ball and it is no longer sealing when you screw it closed. Good luck!

  • @seanhand5825
    @seanhand5825 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video thank you. Troubleshooting my 20 Ton bottle jack which when under load the pump handle raises up from the bottom position to the top as if air/oil is flowing backwards. Tried all the tricks to bleed it, suspect it could be something like this Oring seal. Any thoughts on what may cause this problem?

    • @SoatMon
      @SoatMon  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you are right, it's got to be a seal. It's got to be in the check valve to the pump. Try taking it apart, clean everything and replace any worn o-rings and it should work.

    I have a jack that is actually stuck open. What do you think? It won't go down and is about halfway up with the ram.

    • @SoatMon
      @SoatMon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would guess the valve is stuck. You might try backing out the valve that you turn to let it down and see if it's rusted or stuck closed. It should go down if that's free and the ram is clean.

    • @kcimb
      @kcimb ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SoatMon The ram is kind of rusty. I'm going to take it all apart and rebuild it. I have an O-ring kit. It was a 50$ ebay purchase. Seller said it worked, surprise he lied. 15$ and 35 with shipping and taxes. Kinda mad, but I need an extra 20t for a breakdown kit for one of our AFVs.

      When you activate the release valve you don't remove it, you just turn it about a half turn counter clockwise, then back in to lock it. Try screwing it all the way in, then back it out a half turn and press down on the ram (top of it) and it should go down.

    THIS IS WHAT I TRIED TO DO : I UNSCREWED IT(THAT LITTLE SCREW WE USE TO LOOSEN WHEN WE WANT TO LOWER THE JACK) COMPLETELY AS THE JACK WAS ALREADY NOT WORKING.I THEN TRIED TO FILL OIL THROUGH THAT HOLE. NOTHING CAME RIGHT.
    I TRIED SECOND METHOD OF OPENING A PLUG THAT IS RUBBER ON THE JACK AND FILL IT WITH OIL AND IF I PUT MY FINGER ON THAT HOLE AND TRY TO PUSH ``RAM `` DOWN THE PRESSURE RISES ON MY FINGER. AND WHEN I TRY TO JACK IT UP IT DOES NOT.
