Thank you so much for this! I have a struggling 8 year old. This year we started explode the code and reading pathways and he’s making good progress. A family member bought the Usborne books for us years ago and I always thought they were too difficult. Clearly I didn’t look at them close enough. Thanks for sharing! Excited to use those as a resource!
My daughter has not gotten the concept of reading, she forgets a lot and has seen two specialists, I have been trying everything and people have tried working with her, what can I do to help her? If anyone has suggestions, she has been diagnosed with dyslexia and an intellectual learning disability. HELP
Sounds like a great curriculum! We started with Leapfrog dvds, and then moved on to All About Reading and these two things worked excellent for us, but every child has different learning needs.
Thank you for this. I discovered that Explode the Code has an online subscription for kids to do the work online. I ordered it and can't wait to have my daughter try it!
My youngest is finally beginning reading thanks to AAR. She has dyslexia along with other learning disabilities and we're going through the pre-reading level. We plan on adding in AAS this coming year. So thankful for this product!
How is it going? My daughter have Auditory processing disorder, sequencing processing, dyslexia, and comprehension problems. I was hoping AAR can help my daughter. Many also recommend the Orton Gillingham program.
@@bayamonrican It’s been helping a lot. We like to mix it up with ABC, See Hear Do for fun. She’s still on the pre-reading level. We take it slow around here and go at her pace. AAR is an Orton Gillian program. We were recommended several, but AAR looked the most engaging.
I just found your channel recently. We also started homeschooling due to the pandemic and love it as well. It’s so nice to see another homeschooler like us! Thank you so much for this video. I also have a struggling reader and I’m excited to try some of your ideas!
Thanks for sharing the resources that have helped on this journey! I totally agree with you that learning spelling rules can really help 'unlock' reading ability when learning to read is challenging.
I have a struggling learner as well. We are going to start using Jackris Growing with Grammar and Spelling and Vocabulary. I have tried everything and hoping this will be a good fit.
So helpful. Thank you. I have a struggling reader and have been wondering about all about spelling to teach reading. I currently use phonics pathways and it really is fantastic and is working. Not to mention it is inexpensive. We also use Learn to Read from Easy Peasy (free) which my son likes a lot better. We want nothing more than to see our babies read fluently so they will be able to read to learn. Slow and steady wins the race. You're doing a great job mama! ❤
Reading pathways looks great! Finally just subscribed. I’ve enjoyed your videos for a while. I also have a channel mainly about homeschooling and glad to connect here!
So cool. We’re in our first year of kindergarten and use explode the code with the good and the beautiful currently. We are continuing with both good and the beautiful, explode the code and have all about spelling to include for first grade. Also, we’re giving first language lessons for the well trained mind a try as a loop in since I’ve heard great things with the oral narration and memory work. It’s great we can start interventions earlier and immediately for our kiddos because we homeschool. Look forward to hearing more updates.
My daughter learned to read with the book “Storybook Treasury of Dick and Jane and Friends” plus a book called “the read-it-yourself storybook” my mom saved from when I learned to read! They sound similar to the reading pathways!
Do you recommend blast off to reading or the reading pathways? They both look good but I feel like doing both on top of our curriculum would overwhelm my struggling rising 3rd grader. Just looking for something to supplement.
Thank you so much for this video. I have a struggling reader as well. You’ve given me some new ideas for curricula to consider. Just found you yesterday and want to sit down and watch all your videos!! Love your vibe!
Thank you!! We use all about reading but my son’s progress is so slow. He has some visual processing issues he now gets therapy for. I still plan on using it but look forward to exploring blast into reading for something geared towards older kids. He’s 8.5y and at All about reading level 2.
I’m so glad I found you. Our daughters sound very similar! I have most of the resources you mentioned. I need to get explode the code. We are going to do AAR level 2 and AAS 1 soon. We did TGTB level K and Teach your Child to Read in 100 easy lessons for 1st grade. The 100 easy lessons is what helped the most I think get her reading confidence up. Thanks for the video!
Thanks so much for watching and your sweet comment! We’re doing Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons with my kindergartner this year. I’ve heard so many great things about it.
I use all about reading and explode the code which has been amazing for my son. I definitely would like to look into reading pathways as a resource. It looks amazing.
Thank you for sharing these titles with us! My daughter needs confidence (like me). I think we'll go back to phonics books and also work on spelling to strengthen her foundation.
So, what is your overall review of Blast Off to Reading? I have an 8 year old struggling reader; we are doing AAR level 2 right now, but it's so slow, and also he thinks it's kinda childish. So I'd really love some feedback on the Blast Off workbook. Thank you!
It’s a good supplement for reinforcing reading skills, especially if you suspect any kind of dyslexia. The games online are pretty rudimentary, but they add in a component of fun.
I think they’re both valuable resources depending on what you’re looking for. We just use ETC now since my girls can do it independently, only sometimes needing my assistance when a new phoneme is introduced. Blast Off was really helpful in establishing some fluency but is much more parent/teacher involved, which is what one of my daughters needed at the time. Her younger sister is a strong reader and didn’t use it at all but has done ETC since she started schooling and loves it.
I would love to know how your daughter is reading now. We have a dyslexic struggling reader and have tried so many things. The reading fluency triangles are much like AAR. I’m going to order some of these and try them out.
So very helpful! Thank you for sharing as I am getting some ideas to help my son over the summer - I would like to purchase the Usborne My First Reading Library of books! How can I order through you?
I love this video! Thank you. I found you searching for struggling reader tips. I am going to binge your channel! I’d love to connect and collab with you.
For explode the code do you need the teacher manuals as well or just the workbooks work fine? Just starting Blast off to Reading for my dyslexic daughter and want to add in explode the code too
I have been using the how to read in 100 lessons but it’s moving too slow for my 1st grader and she is bored. The learning pathways seems like it would be a better fit. Thank you for sharing all your tips!
I definitely wouldn’t push it if my daughter wasn’t dying to learn to read, haha! Her reading skills have improved so much, and she was so excited to finish her first chapter book on her own!

All About Spelling has helped my dyslexic son a TON this year! So glad to have found it!
I’m so thankful we started using it!
Reading pathways looks like it would be great for my son. Thank you
My daughter loves the blast off to reading games.
They're so simple but so helpful!

Welcome!! I love connecting with fellow homeschool converts. :) I hope some of these things work for y'all. Keep me posted!
We are starting all about spelling and all about reading for my daughters second grade year in August! I’m excited and hope they help her so much!
Hope it goes well for y’all!

Reading and spelling really do go hand in hand!

Yes!! It’s so great to be so involved in their education and intervene and adapt when necessary!
Just subscribed this was super helpful because were not loving what we are currently using and I wanted some new ideas to try!
My daughter learned to read with the book “Storybook Treasury of Dick and Jane and Friends” plus a book called “the read-it-yourself storybook” my mom saved from when I learned to read! They sound similar to the reading pathways!
That’s awesome! Sometimes those tried and true classics are what work best!
I bought that usborne book set as an early reader set for when my daughter was 4! I love them!!
It’s such a great resource!
Do you recommend blast off to reading or the reading pathways? They both look good but I feel like doing both on top of our curriculum would overwhelm my struggling rising 3rd grader. Just looking for something to supplement.
Pathways would be a good supplemental choice! Very easy to implement and doesn’t take up a lot of time.
@@TheHomeschoolConvert awesome! Thanks for your input!

Can you do a video explaining more of how you teach your child? How to read?
Super helpful, thank you!

Thank you for sharing these titles with us! My daughter needs confidence (like me). I think we'll go back to phonics books and also work on spelling to strengthen her foundation.
Hello! How do you incorporate all of the resources? Are you focusing on one book at a time? All at once?
I was looping them into our schedule. Not everyone was done every day.

I feel like you can definitely get away with not having the Teacher's Manual.
Are you still using Blast Off to Reading?
We're you only using All About Spelling along with other English literature? Or did you use it alone?
We always read other literature.
Did reading pathways end up working well?
Yes, it helped a lot with fluency.
Are these is borne books still available?! I’m interested in purchasing if I can!
Yes, they are! b11022.myubam.com/p/5914/my-first-reading-library-ir

My son is in 3rd grade he reads but has comprehension problems what do i do?
I’m not an expert, but having my daughter narrate, or tell back, after readings has been an easy comprehension tool.
How do you know when your child is struggling??
She was having a hard time with retention and reading fluency.
Most kids don’t read til age 9 :)
I definitely wouldn’t push it if my daughter wasn’t dying to learn to read, haha! Her reading skills have improved so much, and she was so excited to finish her first chapter book on her own!
Have you tried snap words from child1st? They are amazing. My kindergartener was able to read about 40 words in a couple of weeks.
I haven’t. Thanks for the recommendation!
Super helpful! Thank you
I’m so glad! You’re welcome!
