    My family lived in a Cob house for our first year in Missouri.
    Earth walls, earth roof, and earth floor; we lived inside the earth!!

    Anyone who has built a monolithic 18-24" thick cob wall can appreciate how much time this pallet design saves.

    I am so glad to see you there in Maui doing these beautiful tiny houses out of cob! I actually wrote to Tulsi Gabbard and sent her your link to build these there. I just think they're perfect for the island and local resources. You need women too, I'm sure they will love them too. Please keep making videos so I can see the development taking place...Keep up the good work!!

      Hi Sir!
      Congratulations on one more beautiful little house💖
      I've noticed that you've changed your technique. You are not using the metal chicken screen over the wood anymore before the COB...
      Now you use just clay paint on the wood?

    Miguel, I met you at the first seed expo in Sta Rosa, CA, years ago.
    My sister lives in the Big Island.
    The thing I miss in natural construction videos is how to do the floor. I still don't know the basic floor part. Can you please do a video in the future showing the base? Thanks

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      yes the floor. in the slideshow at the end of the video there is a couple photos of how I framed in the floor for this one this one is different than most other ones I do because it needed to be made mobile so I built it on skids and lifted onto a trailer if necessary. for this one I just put vinyl flooring over the plywood. normally I do it on the ground and do a cob floor. some of my videos do show this process

    Have been watching alot of your cob building videos and this one by far is very descriptive and more detailed in the process, which I really appreciate! I plan on starting with making a small cob shed for my outdoor lawn equipment, then move on to making a man cave. Question, where the roof rafters are at the top, is there a small amount of open space between the top of the walls and the rafters themselves? Or is it sealed off? If it's sealed, what did you do to seal the space?

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      right with this one we want lots of ventilation so I'm just going to be putting screens in between the rafters. normally what I do is put a 4x4 in between the rafters and cob over that. or put Adobe bricks in there if you have some

    So the wood of the pallletts doesnt decay/rot away under the earthen plaster? Also, is the floor just palkets , how many?, covered in plywood? What about foundation? Also, when you move theses structures is it before the plastering? What abt toiletting, bathing cooking and lighting?

    I love your work, your builds are beautiful. I am hoping to construct a pallet cob home with my partner in the coming year. It will be in New Mexico and I know the winters are chilly so I was wondering if your insulation method with the pallet construction works for colder climates? Thank you again for your videos, I am completely inspired. Cob is the future.

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Aloha yes if you want to build a New Mexico the pallet called system is great but I would say don't rely on the walls to provide all of your insulation needs. just as a straw bale home you would still need a heat source of some sort inside to stay warm in the winter if you want to double up the pallets to make the walls thicker you can but it makes it more complicated with framing in the doors and the windows but it is possible. the the cob does fine in the snow though there are many Cob houses in snowy weather and they do just fine I built a cob straw bale and pallet School in North Dakota and it did just fine. I hope you find my instructional videos helpful in your build...

    What about the wood in the pallets, will it get rotten and mess up the structure? How long are these cob houses supposed to last?

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      the pallets are heat treated and they will last pretty much forever. also once they're encased in the cob and lime plaster they are protected from any concern of breaking down. they should last pretty much forever. there are earthen structures like this built in England 700 years ago that are still being lived in

    What kind of modernized version of wattle and daub. That was play Celtic weave branches twigs reads whatever and then plastered over with clay and sand and straw.
    It was kind of a mud daub home.
    Cob means round Mass, blob, daub, Cob ...

    Do you need to do any special termite treatment on the wooden frame? Or rot protection? Does the mud plaster provide sufficient protection from both?

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The upright posts have been treated and the pallets have been heat treated which keeps out termites. Also, the Cob and lime plaster keeps them out.

    I'm writing two papers on ecological sustainability and grassroots level green living, I was wondering if I could contact you over email and ask some questions about your work to use for my papers. To be more specific, I was going to use Cob on Wood as an example of the ability of law enforcement to act while they fail to stop large scale businesses still operating in Oakland without permits, as well as a community recycling trash materials and living with an extremely minor pollution footprint.

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      pallets are heat treated to make them resistant to termites and they do not rot after the Earthen plaster is put on the structures are definitely built to last a long long time which is why I build them
