I used to have dance parties in my bathroom when all the kids were out of the house. I even have a Spotify playlist called "Dorky Dancing" so I can be a total dork by myself! LOL I'm gonna have to bring this back for NaNo

This is my 10th NaNo. My favorite rewards are stickers, because having snacks around is a recipe for disaster in my case. This year I found adorable little pumpkin stickers- my pumpkin patch will grow along with my novel. For the big milestones, I treated myself to an "oops pack" from that same Etsy shop. Artists will frequently sell mystery bags of their stickers that didn't turn out right. They're cheap and usually the flaws are quite small! I'm so excited to discover what's in my oops pack as the month goes on!

I started doing the fancy water thing when I realized that 50% of what I liked about drinking wine was the feeling of luxury. 😅
Another thing I like to do sometimes is sing along to Filter (as best I can, lol) while picking out an outfit I love in the morning and putting on makeup, even if I don't plan to leave the house that day. Somehow it makes me feel ready for anything! ☺️
Even though I do these things already occasionally, choosing to do them and other self-care activities daily in the month of November may really make a difference in my energy level!

Thank you for this video! It was so helpful! I decided to use the daily reward method of choosing a random slip of paper from a jar. If anyone is interested, here is what I added to my jar:
-four dollar store gifts (putty, new writing tabs, etc)
    -four songs to karaoke
-six episodes of shows on streaming services I’ve been meaning to check out
-four funny-sounding words to yell (“bumfuzzle”, anyone?)
    -four mini ice cream bars
-two coloring pages (printed them for free online)
    -1 pack of stickers
    -one mini craft kit
    -four comedy sketches on TH-cam
I’m genuinely delighted for each little reward. Thanks for the great idea, Sarra!

If I asked my husband to fill the daily “treat” jar with ideas, he’d probably fill it with a three letter word starting with an “s” and ending with an “x”. 🙄🙄. I do like the idea of a treats jar though I’m not sure if I will do it. Hmm. Thanks for sharing the ideas, Sarra! Barbara

Self-care is so important. Hopefully I will still feel human during and after nano but I already feel calmer with this toolbox and crossing off calendar days where I'm not gonna write. Thank you for the inspiration.
    And good luck everyone 💕

I haven't used a tool kit like this, but I do keep a list of 'rewards' for myself. I just got a new doll that looks like my main character for my series. During November I'm not allowed to pose her or take pictures of her until I finish my word count for the day. It's going to be a good motivator since I keep her beside my desk. I also have set aside money for splurges at Starbucks. I also have a rule that I can't write any fanfiction until I finish my word count.

I love your videos. Your encouragement helped me dive into NaNo last year. This year I am really focused on what I am NOT going to do-those things that use up my creative and emotional energy. Thank you so much for that suggestion.

Hey. Thought I'm only getting to this video in late 2023 I'm glad I found it because I've realized that i don't know what little things bring me joy. I've never stopped to think about it. So I've bookmarked your video and I'm going to watch it a few more times and figure this out. I deserve it so why not.

Hope you are having a great time with the kids. Lots of creativity in your creativity tools. After years away from it, I've picked up journaling again as part of my daily routine. I sit in my new reading/journaling nook at the end of the day and write accomplishments and thoughts because it quiets and centers me. Sometimes I draw a little, and like you, pull a card. I find it a great way to ease into bedtime.

I am working on a writing project for my writing class that I do on Zoom for my day program for adults with Autism. I reward myself with my favorite snack after one or two paragraphs since I have multiple developmental disabilities along with Autism. I have fine motor skill issues. My hand gets tired when I am writing. I am reading the first two books of the Shadow Demon Saga. I love the books so far!

That is a great list! I also keep a few brainstorming tools in my emergency tool kit along with some play dough, mostly because the feeling of not wanting to write comes from my muse digging in her heels when I have gone wrong along the way. I use super open ended prompting tools like the writer’s brainstorming kit, tarot cards with inspiring images, and a business creativity cards kit, but I think anything would work that gets your brain doing the what if twist. Another is empty gift cards with random scene ideas. Sometimes just pulling out one of the ideas get the flow unstuck. I may mot use the actual idea, but it gets my muse off the stubborn train and into a different vibe.

Yes! Everyday small rewards (& watching your Nano diaries) really pushed me to win last year. I’m going for it again this year. I’ve already started thinking up rewards for the higher counts and the smaller ones. Things as simple as unplugging for one hour or getting a pedicure at 25K. A massage at 50K isn’t a bad idea!
For the smaller word counts I’m going with “make myself a caramel macchiato” at home and “watch something funny during lunch.” 😁👏🏼💕

Thought some of you might be interested in one of the rewards I am putting together for myself.
One of the things that really charges me up is starting and finishing a creative project. I love plotting, so I assembled mini-plotting kits, with which I can do a story arc for future characters.
In each quart-sized Ziplock bag I put: a copy of my basic plotting frame (W-format on one side, Dan Harmon's story circle on the other),two different colors of post-it notes, with coordinating index cards and washi tape, plus a binder ring to hold them in order when I am done.
So when I am done with my words for the day, I can sit down and do some brainstorming with everything I need at hand.
