When I asked a long time guide "What does a mop fly imitate" he only could say that the trout loved them. "But what does it imitate" he could not answer. The only thing I could imagine would be a caddis worm /pupa.

Do you find certain colors of mop flies to work better than others or do you use the same color all the time??

I find chartreuse and tan to be the best for me. They seem to have the same effectiveness year round for me.

Never gill hooked a fish with a mop. Big difference between a mop and power bait but I see where you are coming from.
