This is my favorite version of this song. Haven't heard it in forever. Thanks for posting it.
One of my favorite albums of Dougs... my dad was his manager when I was a child and I just adored him and still do. I used to be a 2 year old screaming and yelling and clapping for Doug. When my dad died 20 years ago, my mom sent me a box of all the stuff she knew I would want. This album was not in the box. No one knew what happened to it. I cried. A few weeks later, on my dad's birthday (his first after his passing) I went to a flea market and what did I see? This album sitting front and centre at one of the tables that sold old records. I cried and my husband bought it for me for $2.00. A gift from heaven.
Krista Bradley you know, Warners, I think, re-released many of his albums as cd's about 4 years ago. Your dad wasn't Buddy Killen, was he? I think he was Doug's longtime producer. This is one of my faves, too, along with Mama Kershaw's Boy and James Douglas Kershaw. I remember being on the JT Ferry in the late '70's singing this to myself.
No my dad was his manager from late 60s into early 70s and my dad worked for Warner brother records as well through that time... I grew up with Doug around me we spent time as kids in hotel rooms with him watching him get ready for his shows, i loved him so, still do and I still keep in touch with him. One of my favorite songs was Natural man from The Cajun Way but I know and love them all... when I was 3 my dad took a picture of my holding an album cover and he used it as a promotional poster!
love to talk to other doug fans!
Hi Krista, was your dad David?
No herb Bradley
Doug Kershaw is Greatest of his time. America's best and Acadiana's Gift to America.
Yes sir. Exactly what you said
One crazy cajun. This is in my opinion one of the best renditions.
Joe King You're correct, it is.
When I went to Louisiana I fell in love with the Cajun people. The know how to throw a party and the are the friendliest people I ever met. I brought German snaps with me that I got when I visited my homeland. (the snaps I brought is like moonshine) It was a small gathering in a bar out side of Lafayette and I shared my snaps with them. Got them drunk and the entertained me with their Cajun music. One of the best parties I ever went to. Sure love those Cajun people.
Beautiful classic!
My Daddy brought this album in when I was a kid. Loved it, hope to find one of it again! Love his music! Saw a video couple years ago, his son was the drummer. Man, he is awesome like his dad!
His albums were re-released on cd's about 9 years ago!
bought this album when it was published , used it up , glad to see it on youtube
jdsol1938 8 track or vinyl album? lol I had the 8 track of "Devils Elbow"!
It was re-released as a Cd about 2014. Several others were too.
I bopught this album, sigh... on cassette, when it came out and wore it out. I then wised up and bought the vinyl that I still have today. Great album by a great artist.
It rolled through my head when we rode on it a couple of years after that album came out. It sort of sent a chill up my spine for some reason.
1Devilwolf Me too. Something about that song really gets me. Such pain and passion is captured in a song. My Brother and I really loved it. I sang it for him before he passed away.
Tanya Tucker's version is one of my favorite songs ever, Devil's Elbow was one of the albums my mom played all the time when I was growing up yet I do not remember this being on it! Wow, love it! I'll have to dig that Lp out sometime soon.

Good version.....
I wondered what the lyrics would be sung from a straight man's perspective.
Do you think that's really nessassary. People stoop so low putting others down trying to make there self look good.
