Thank you for making a video on your Zeiss 6x9 Folder and taking us along on your hike while using it. I was very interested to hear your family stories and also your love of photography and cameras. Your created images were lovely compositions with complex textures and tonal values. Love your honest, sensitive interest and understanding of photography and how you express this.... I recently tried for the first time my own 6x9 Folder, a 1930s Ihagee and just got the result back a day ago. Happy to report that the negatives look good but will scan to look more closely, but excited this camera offers possibilities.
I like your videos because you are in them. I especially like when we get to see a little more of your quirky personality. I really don't know much about cameras, photography so any content you share is an educational experience for me. Happy holidays.
Aww, thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos! Interesting that you stumbled onto my channel without a photography background! I always try to keep my stuff accessible to everyone, so I’m glad it still makes some sense for non-photographers! Happy Holidays to you too!
I had the same model Ikonta C 531/2 camera, the leather & interior fabric bellows was still light tight. It is best to use filters for black & white film, yellow & deep orange works well. The lens is a Tessar 105mm/f3.5 (it is also found with Opton Tessar f3.5.). When removing the lens for cleaning, do remember to record its original position, as with all front cell focussing.
It really depends on the circumstances whether I like filters or not. In the forest I usually don’t, because there isn’t much light to begin with, but if there is a lot of sky they do make sense.
Thank you Jerry! Yeah, I don’t let the leak worry me too much, most of the time it’s fairly invisible or I can crop it out! It just bugs me that I can’t seem to find it 😅 It’s gotta be somewhere!
Lol Roy 🤣 Spock inspired me to practice in front of the mirror when I was little, so now I get to laugh at my facial acrobatics while editing these videos! And yes, I’m very pleased with the results I’m getting from this camera! Zeiss lenses are just wonderful 😀
Love seeing videos of people’s camera collection, hope you do make more. The light leak transitions look great, as well. Good to see you are doing well, looking forward to seeing all the video you’ve been accumulating.
Aw, thanks James! I thought you might like the light leak transitions. I found a free overlay pack a while back when I was switching to DaVinci Resolve. They’re really quick to make and fit the topic so well! I’m definitely making more of these and filming b-roll of all my cameras along the way so that I can make a humongous camera collection video! Someone requested it and it would be fun to make, but I’d need weeks to film all the b-roll if I did it in one go 😅
@@LillySchwartz They absolutely are lovely cameras. I was in luck to be able to find two very clean copies of both. The Super Ikonta A looks to be "new" cosmetically, with a pristine lens. The Balda Baldaxette II, is very fine as well. I'd give them both a 9.5 on a scale of 1-10 and both operate flawlessly. You have a very fine channel. Thank you.
hey, this was a good watch! you really got to show what the camera is capable of (and how much of a headache hunting for those light leaks can be). Subscribed!
hello Lilly.. Really lovely video and very interesting subject...like your photo choices and comentary is really sweet also...you are a good comentator....thanks for this. I will look at some more...
Also love the folging cameras the photos are trully nice and spacial . So fun to use, people really look at you and ask about it. feels like a time travel 😅😆
Oh from your grandmother? That’s great! I have a Lubitel my mum used to use back in the day, but it fell off a table and doesn’t work anymore. I have better TLRs, so it’s not worth fixing, but still a shame.
@@LillySchwartz thats so sad! I think that using a camera that used to be from grandmother makes it even more special. Im always thinking on the photos she made on that camera. And by the way, i use black Shoe polish on my cameras, makes it looks like new
Very nice and charming video, Lilly! I've got a Moskva 2 and a Moskva 5, copies of your camera, the 5 is in quite good shape, and my go to camera for 6x9. You've taken some great images with it, nice to see! I do believe Agfa developed colorfilm in the 30s, but it was not at all common. Keep up the good work!
I actually considered getting a Moskva to try out replacing the bellows on one of these, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. The Zeiss is definitely a great camera, but I definitely need to find that light leak.
Very nice. I was considering a 6x9 folder, specifically the Zeiss or Mockba, before I got a really good deal on a Fuji GL w/ 100 and 180. Of course I will pay in WEIGHT, but the interest that other people show will also be there and I get to say it’s a Texas Leica! LOL. BTW, on the walk the semi-surround sound was really interesting and well conveyed by the iPad. At first I thought the sounds just to the right and slightly above my right ear were something in my room, but I figured out it was the recording. Cool!
Oh, Texas Leica, how cool!! Yeah, I was always watching out for one of those, but the prices only went up and up until I decided to cut down on potential further spending opportunities and went with the Mamiya Universal for a “reliable” 6x9 camera. It’s really heavy, but it can do all formats practically, so it seemed like the more sensible choice! I wish I had bought one of the Fujis when they were not quite as expensive. The Zeiss still gets used on days when I don’t feel like embracing the pack mule life 😂 I thought of fixing the surround sound thing, but it’s a cool effect because the GoPro was attached to the left of the camera on a magic arm. Felt more real? Not quite binaural, but getting closer!
Great video!! I just got back to them and own now a Zeiss 521/2 near mint and tested (that was promised, but let's wait and see after the first film is done 🙂 ) Would be great if you could share more about it, do/not do (such as the right procedure to first set it on 250 with a Compur shutter and then to cock the shutter. not the other way round - never!)
I found a Super Ikonta just like yours at an antique store here in Florida for $35US. I sent it off for repair and it came back working as new. Kein Lichtaustritt! It is one of my best cameras and I use it often.
As far as I can tell the Kodak Pocket Junior is a 120 camera and there are still lots of film options out there for this format. My favourite by far is Ilford HP5+ and it‘s really nice in 120! To test it I would recommend Fomapan though. A bit cheaper so not such a loss if there is a big light leak on it! I order my film online. Even if they sell film in a shop where you are it‘s going to be more expensive and they might not have 120.
Ah, the Kodak Jiffy takes weird discontinued stuff it seems. Depends on the model which type of film it needs. If it‘s the 620 version you can try re-rolling 120 film, it‘s almost the same size. Not easy, you obviously have to do it in the dark, but certainly doable!
ohhh,...can i come walk the trail?...so niiiice**** the camera and Pictures are great too,...i have...some strange...imensly small Mycro III A and this and that ....but i did not get into it that much,...great watch*
Thanks! The trail is very popular, lots of tourists come just for that trail! It‘s a whole pilgrimage thing? Which is why we usually walk it in the opposite direction, more interesting that way. The Mycro looks very interesting! Couldn’t quite figure out which format it shoots? So many cool cameras out there!
I like your video.. and I like your Ukulele Bass!! I've got a SuperIkonta.. I love it. I prefer to set up it on the Hyperfocal at f11. So I can use it like a compact camera. with 400 Iso film.
Lilly you Are great ! That "Feel happy with my brothers And Sisters trees" Got me I have it the same. And do know anybody in my surroundings who’d think that way / alsou have zeis icon and waiting for time to use it.
bought a moskva-1 20 yrs ago lol. adapted braun paxette steinheil cassarit 50mm f2.8 to chinese DKL adapter. reversed schneider kreuznach xenoplan 1.4/23mm machine vision lens to lens ring 30.5mm - 49mm glued it to c-mount to pentax q for macro. whew lol.
I like your videos, somehow you review the cameras I'm also very interested. My Q: light meter using with medium format > (1) Any decent Android app? (2) Can I use the meter of one of my pocket digital cameras since they give apperture and shutter speed (3) what is your ISO/film choice when shooting the Ikonta in sun/clouds/evening?
I’m on iOS myself, but all the apps I’ve tried are as accurate as any reflective light metering, so the only reason I use my regular light meter is so that I don’t get distracted by the phone. You can also use the meter in your digital, no problem. Just keep in mind that shutters of old cameras are usually off especially the slow times. My ikonta is like 80 years old, so I stick with the faster speeds usually. As for ISO: it has an f/4.5 lens, so I only use ISO 100 in bright sunshine conditions. In the forest definitely ISO 400 even on a sunny day. Clouds ISO 400. Evening 400 pushed to ISO 1600 with stand development, although frankly f/4.5 is kinda difficult at ISO 1600 unless you’re indoors. And if you’re going to use a tripod anyway, you might as well shoot ISO 100. Acros used to have very good reciprocity failure, so great for long exposures, but I haven’t tested Acros II, so I don’t know about what’s currently the best bw film for long exposures.
I actually haven’t shot this lil camera in the evening … since I still haven’t found that blasted light leak that would probably be ideal for it. So, thanks for the video idea 😀 glad you’re enjoying the videos! More photography stuff coming soon.
Folding cameras for medium format rule. I like my vigilants and my medalists. They fold and collapse into themselves and they're still very sharp. They seem to be out of style though, and Zeiss and Kodak are notorious for light leaks. Kodak even used fiber and paper for their main bellows structure. Use it in good health!
Thanks! So, are the Vigilants and Medalists better in regards to the light leaks then? A lot of it happens because leather and the wrong levels of humidity don’t play nicely with each other. Much like a leather jacket it needs some care, but the stuff that keeps the bellows supple might not be so good for the other parts? I’m never quite sure. I’m still tempted to replace the bellows entirely, but the prospect of drilling into the camera scares me.
@@LillySchwartz vigilants are rubbish bellows, they're paper based and not made of leather. Medalists are EXCELLENT, but they shoot 620 instead of 120, they weigh about 1.8kg, and they're kinda like an armadillo. All metal, no leather no wood no plastic. The medalist has a collapsible double helicoil for the lens focus, so the bellows, if you can call them that, would be very solid and precise. Nothing to leak unless you drill the barrel itself.
Ah, that explains why the Medalists haven’t really been on my radar! Can the Medalist be used like a Box Brownie with a 120 roll and a 620 take up spool or does it need proper re-spooling? Definitely looks super heavy, but also interesting! Almost reaches the 2.5kg of my Mamiya Universal which is my main 6x9 camera. Oh so heavy!
@@LillySchwartz it's 620 and it's very tight even for 620. It can only use metal 620 spools, and to convert it to 120 requires that the film Chambers be gutted. So rerolling is mandatory. I have a bunch of videos about my medalists, feel free to enjoy them! Jason
Ah, that’s a shame! I always hesitate to get into cameras with sort of discontinued film formats. I love the look of 127 cameras, but only being able to use just one type of film makes it not very enticing for me. I’m going to check out your vids now 😀
Bought a Kodak Senior for $17. Good shape except for bellows. Tried using liquid tape without success (it peeled), so I ended up making a leather sleeve that slides over the bellows and door. Easy to remove and totally lightproof.
I can’t really imagine the design, could you share a picture perhaps? TH-cam doesn’t like it when people comment with links, but maybe you can point me to your instagram or something like that. I still haven’t found that leak and have been thinking of disassembling it to take another stab at fixing it!
Thanks for trying, but YT doesn’t like it. Doesn’t show up in my comments. Maybe the contact form on my website would work better: www.lillyschwartz.com Thanks again! Curious to see your solution!
Since it was an old medium format film camera you had looked for, why not hunt for a voigtlander Bessa2 with Haliar lens ? It's also German and excellent or alternatively you could look for another German professional camera, Rolleiflex TLR !
The lightleak might come from the housing, not from the bellows. You could try taping the seams of the body with electrical tape after loading a film and see if that makes a difference.
That was the first thing I tried. I had the entire housing taped up, so it’s gotta be either on the bellows or where the bellows attach to the body. My guess is that it’s somewhere below the hinge mechanism where it’s hard to find.
I just picked up an Olympus Six recently for a good price. In good condition too. Doesn't appear to be any light leaks, so I got lucky there!!!. So, another camera to the collection!!! Also, in short notice, another bag as well as I'm buying a nice messenger bag to stick it in. Got just as many camera bags as I have cameras!!!😝 Only wish I had as nice a place to go for a walk and take piccies as you have at home. It's also getting unbearably hot and muggy here, now that summer is fast approaching and that doesn't make for good times to go take pics. I have a Zeiss Ikon Nettar on my eBay watch list that's in brilliant condition that's not too dear. I can send you the link if you like and who knows, you might buy it yourself!!! 🙂📸📸
Oh nice! From the pictures the Chrome Six doesn’t look like it has a rangefinder? I think it’s a pretty design! I actually can’t get any new cameras right now, we literally ran out of space where I can put them 😂 So, I’m sorry, you’ll have to get the Nettar for yourself, can’t help you out there 😉 I looked into those as well when I got the Super Ikonta though and the lenses are equally nice. Just without the rangefinder they are harder to use in low light! Would you believe that I don’t use camera bags? They scream “Steal me!!” So I just use camera wraps in regular bags, usually half broken ones to make it even less likely that someone suspects I have a camera in there! By the way, getting up that mountain in summer is not something I do either, it gets way too humid and hot here for that, and it’s when the place gets really crowded with tourists too. Usually I go in spring autumn and winter, but then I have to be careful too, because it rains a lot and then it’s slippery on the cliffs!
@@LillySchwartz I'll have to save up for the Nettar if I want to get it. I could buy it straight off, but it's been on my watch list for awhile, now, so saving up for it and keeping some money for other things is the best way to go. Though, I am tempted!!!😈😈 Anyone wanting to rip my camera gear off would have to be armed pretty well, with me, since I did unarmed combat when I was in the army reserves and my Dad taught me as well. He was an instructor in it during WW2 when he was in the army. In any case, I can handle myself pretty well when the occasion arises!! And, I usually carry something heavy and hard with me, like some chain or pipe, plus my phone. Especially when I know a place is a bit dodgy like that. Here, during summer, even getting out of bed can be an effort!!! Though if you don't, you end up laying in a pool of water, or at least it feels like it because you sweat that much. Aircon is expensive to run out here, so we just use ceiling fans, but they barely do the job. You wake up feeling like you've gone for a swim!!
@@LillySchwartz Ooh, forgot to mention, talking about old cameras, I have a #3A folding Kodak Brownie mod A on my watch list as well. Made in 1905!!! There's a few of them on eBay at the moment. Though many are newer models.
Have you looked into an Aerothermal pump instead of the aircon? They are super efficient to run and I looked into it because the gas prices are exploding around here and we might think of running an Aerothermal setup on solar? They don’t need a lot of energy so solar should be enough to run them in summer. They can be reversed so they can function both as a heater in winter and an air con in summer! I don’t think I’d survive the temperatures and humidity where you are! Here it tends to be still mild, but my new studio will be in the attic and I have no idea yet how good the insulation is. I tend to avoid conflict by the way, grew up in a rough neighbourhood, so I kinda know how to blend in there, at least in Europe. Whenever I’m in an iffy neighbourhood the camera goes in the broken bag. But frankly, there are almost no bad neighbourhood around here except one? That one is literally called Infierno though, “hell”. It’s at the other end of town and I don’t think I’ve ever been out this far. Oh, Brownies are fun too! I have a Brownie Fiesta Flash and flipped the lens. I rigged it so I can attach the GoPro to it as well, one of these days I’ll make a video on that one as well!
I'm kinda hoping that, one day, we'll be able to move south and get out of the heat. But, I'll have to look into something like that. Here, trouble seems to come looking for anyone minding their own business. It's usually knuckle draggers and/or drunks that look to pick fights or bully people. Or, just assholes looking to stir things up. You have to be careful with street pics here because sometimes people in this town can get very touchy about it. I used to have a box brownie many moons ago. Simple, but fun!!! Wouldn't be hard to make one, I reckon. You can buy good lenses off specialist optical stores, these days. Making the box would be simple. The camera I'd like to have was my uncle's Leica M3. Don't know what happened to it. None of my cousins were interested in photography. He showed me how to use it when I was around 5 years old. That, and his Rollei, but that was a bit busted up and needed repair.
It's amazing what these "old" machines can do, isn't it? I have taken really nice photos on vintage glass. Would you also have to drill into the camera to just replace the leather rather than add in a completely new fabric system?
Vintage glass is great for sure! There is very little space once this folds up, so adding anything substantial on top would mean that it can’t close anymore. Little bits of tape in the right spot would be the way to go, since these bellows still largely hold. It must be a tiny little hole somewhere. I just can’t find it!
I have a 1942 Zeiss Ikon Nettar. I don't have the luxury of a rangefinder on the camera. Haven't had any light leaks and the pictures are lovely. The last time I shot it though it was in low light and I didn't have my release cable so the shots were not any good. But still, a fun camera to use, very similar to this one. Lens is nice and sharp for the pictures I have taken properly with it.
The Nettars also have nice lenses, but zone focusing usually means that I have to stop down to get the focus right, and then using them in low light is a problem. Lately I’ve been experimenting with a Box Brownie in which I flipped the lens though and whenever I don’t have enough light I just start double exposing everything. Very interesting results! I also have one of those cold shoe rangefinders, they also help, but of course folding cameras don’t usually have a cold shoe.
@@LillySchwartz I thought about a cold shoe rangefinder, but they can be quite expensive. Another solution was to focus another camera and read what it said on the lens xD this worked. It's very rare I go out with only one camera, my OM10 gets used as a light meter and a focus meter sometimes haha. I'd love to see a video about the brownie, I've not had the opportunity to shoot one before
Ah, that works of course! My cold shoe rangefinder was a cheap Soviet one. As always when I need a bargain 😅 I’ll probably take the Brownie on a walk soon! We currently have the perfect gloomy autumn weather for that special blend of weirdness the flipped lens provides!
@@LillySchwartz I quite like soviet stuff, I have a Zorki I'll be making a video on at some point. I've been eying up a soviet enlarger that's been on my local marketplace for a while. I look forward to seeing your shots, I'm still waiting for a nice and sunny day, which are few and far between.
My Zorki was the first rangefinder camera I ever shot! I have a bit of a love hate relationship with it, but they do take nice pictures when it’s not too humid or cold and the film breaks. I have never used a Soviet enlarger though! Mine is a Durst M670!
I really enjoyed the video. Kudos to the cameraman. How is it to focus with that camera? The one I have doesn't have any focusing aids, one is supposed to calculate the distance to the subject and work with the hyperfocal distance which is fine, but you always end up working at f/8 or smaller even if I have the one with f/3,5 lens.
Yay, I’m glad you enjoyed it! Most of it was yours truly as the camerawoman but my husband agreed to film a little too! He did it so well 😀 The focus is a rangefinder patch on this one. You only see the very center so you have to frame with a framing guide on top of the camera. The first folding camera I used was also zone focussing. After a while I got quite decent at guessing, but of course the focussing scale was also way off on the lens which confused things. There are cold shoe rangefinder attachments, but it’s probably hard to mount those on a folding camera!
@@LillySchwartz Haha! Of course! I assumed you filmed the whole show as you always do. Clearly I was talking about the parts on the path where you are being filmed :D
@@LillySchwartz agreed mate I come from a film background, shoot digitally all day at work and now get a buzz from old cameras, I recently got hold of a rollei 35se absolutely love that wee beast. Have just bid on an old Italia folder too, looking forward to that one. x
I always thought the little Rollei 35 se was very cute! Didn’t find a good enough reason to get one yet except the cuteness of it 😂 I totally get that you prefer film if you have to shoot digital all day. I had a few years of digital, but I got so tired of all the editing! Having unlimited shots isn’t always a good thing 😅
@@LillySchwartz definitely try a rollei it’s quirky and different I shot a vid about it can’t wait to use it again it’s a camera with huge potential being so small it’s ideal for street photography. For me to be honest digital these days makes photography easy as a press photographer I couldn’t do without it so for a total change film is taking far more of my personal time I love the challenge it offers. GO try a rollei you’ll love it mate ❤️📷
Yeah, for news there is really no other way than digital! And concert photography gets a lot easier too. I usually don’t shoot anything time sensitive, so I really only use digital for video these days. But who knows about the future? I’m at least starting to not dislike the colours from digital, which is a step in the right direction I guess! I have a Rolleicord V which I just love for street photography. These days I don’t really shoot much street though due to the circumstances. For landscapes I don’t mind bringing the bigger beasts, my Mamiya C220 for example!
Very cool video and a beautiful place. I love my folders, the best of the bunch being my Ensign Selfix820, despite its fungusy lens. Great comedy references too 😊👌
Aww, thanks Alex, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Have you tried cleaning the Ensign? In my experience a bit of 3% hydrogen peroxide does the trick quite well. It usually already helps quite a bit to clean it out even though a bit of flare might remain if the fungus has eaten into the glass. My Jupiter 8 lens was greatly improved after the peroxide treatment! And yay, you got the comedy references! That episode still has me cry laughing every time I see it 🤣
It definitely helps a lot in these kinds of situations. Fungi don’t tend to survive the peroxide treatment, so definitely the way to go to make sure it doesn’t come back once you cleaned it out!
Cover the camera in tin foil, then set the lens open in bright sunlight for three hours. This should take care of the fungus. If you prefer cleaning the rear of the lens, make certain to record its original position, as with all cell focussing. The lens of the Ensign 820 is a Ross Xpres, it is an anastigmat and is sharper than Zeiss lenses.
Wow! I have already 2 Ikontas - 520/2. It has leaks and a need a lot of cleaning inside, but image is already interesting :) - 534/16. I just stared testing it, and has not results yet. Do you clean cameras by yourself? Especially lenses? I still not sure where to share my cameras collections and pictures by them. Instagram or maybe TH-cam. How have you made this choice?)
I think this one is a 531/2! Sadly it doesn’t have the mask and they are impossible to find, so I can only shoot 6x9 with it! It’s in surprisingly good shape in comparison, I’ve seen some really bad ones that were all caked with dirt. I usually clean and repair the cameras myself unless they are very expensive. My Rolleicord needs a shutter repair, but I’m still too scared to do it myself. I repaired both my Zorkis though and have cleaned a few lenses and other cameras. I actually started sharing my pictures and cameras on my blog and have been doing that for the last 10 years. The videos came later, because it can add the right amount of context and it seemed like an interesting challenge. One thing is certain though, sharing on Instagram isn’t for me. I normally make pictures to be hung on walls and tiny telephone screens just don’t do them justice. Stuff that gets Likes on Instagram isn’t really the stuff I want to make? I really enjoy the video format, very nice way of sharing! It’s a lot of work though.
Dammit Lily, now I have to buy one for my collection! Pics look very good, just shows that we don't been all of today's bells and whistles, doesn't it?
Haha, sorry / not sorry 😜 Of course, it’s not exactly convenient to use and it’s definitely not a camera for quick snaps, but when used deliberately the results definitely hold up! The only thing that causes trouble for me is the missing double exposure lock 😅
Hey. Thanks for the video. That camera seems to cope nicely with complex scenes, which seems like a rare quality. Have you seen the movie “Pulse” (2001, Kiyoshi Kurosawa)? I think they used Fujifilm stock. It has that juicy glow to the colours only Fuji could do
Thank you Greg! It really does well with those kinds of scenes! Sadly I have a low horror tolerance, so I haven’t seen it. Definitely the kind of story I’d be interested in! From looking at the trailer it could well be Fuji. It’s hard to tell because it’s mostly shot at night and I’ve only shot very little Fuji tungsten film. I suspect Kodak Vision would be more heavy on the blues? It makes sense geographically too because of import taxes for Kodak etc.
My pleasure Lilly. That’s an excellent point. I must say I try and stick to Ilford because they’re somewhat local. I’m trying ortho plus for first time but, apparently it’s hurricane season in Cornwall which is a challenge. Btw I’ve used that automotive tape on a set of bellows on an enlarger. Seemed to do the trick. Is it possible the light leak is an internal reflection of light coming through the lens?
I’m also more of an Ilford person in general. Geographically a lot closer, although sadly now outside the customs union which is a shame! Wow, ISO 80 film this time of year in Cornwall must be a challenge! I don’t manage it here either because it’s rainy season too. In winter the weather is very similar to the south of England, only about 10 degrees warmer which helps a little 😉 I don’t think think the light leak is coming from the lens because there is an edge to the leak. I suspect it’s somewhere close to the folding door, where I can’t reach properly with the flashlight! That tape is great, but I’m stumped, so many times I’ve tried to find this leak!
Ortho plus intrigues me because theoretically the lack of red sensitivity should result in less chromatic aberration. Especially with the old Tessar 10.5cm I’m using. I’m not sure why we left the customs union, I wish we didn’t, I had all kinds of pipe dreams about travelling about Europe, shooting colourful things in decent light. Now I must shoot things which don’t move, with a tripod, in the gloom, shivering. I envy your extra 10 degrees. 😌 Im sure you’ll figure the light leak out. You seem pretty smart. Have you tried putting just a blank piece of sheet film inside to narrow it down?
I haven’t tried ortho plus yet, but I’m definitely interested! Maybe I’ll add a couple rolls to my next order! And I’m sure I’ll find that leak eventually. For now it doesn’t bother me much, it’s fairly small anyway!
Hello congratulations for your video and your talent as a photographer by account to find the light leaks on your device it's not easy. There is a liquid product that you apply with a brush and which becomes rubber, it could be very useful but I don't remember the name of the product, do some research on the Internet. Take care of you and your super ikonta 690
Ah, right, the gun festivals! I guess I’m still in denial about those 🤣 The funny thing is, I don’t even mind the guns, since gun laws are very restrictive in Germany and they have all this culture around them, which means they sort of use them responsibly. What freaked me out about those was the military style clothing and the *marching* and even worse the marching bands! They tend to parade through town from morning to evening and having a marching band in front of my window at 8 am is not my definition of fun 😅 tbh though, this kind of thing in Germany always tends to give me flashbacks of historical video clips from the 1930s too? 😬 first time they woke me up with their parade I literally thought I was having a nightmare 😵
one way u might find light leak is Leak detection powder / fingerprint powder. fluorescent powders. discotech night =p all joking aside i tried to look up if fluorescent powders would bother film. i couldnt find something worth mentioning.

Beautiful photos from an old camera. Do not worry about the light leak, just enjoy it as is. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Jerry! Yeah, I don’t let the leak worry me too much, most of the time it’s fairly invisible or I can crop it out! It just bugs me that I can’t seem to find it 😅 It’s gotta be somewhere!
Hi Lily, the pics looked really good; you must be pleased. Nice to see those wonderful eyebrows are in good shape!
Someone requested it and it would be fun to make, but I’d need weeks to film all the b-roll if I did it in one go 😅
Fantastic! I have a Zeiss-Ikon Super Ikonta A (530) 6x4.5 from 1938 and a Balda Baldaxette II 6x6 that I really enjoy using.
They are really lovely cameras aren’t they? So much character!
Subscribed!
great camera, awesome color photographs
Thank you! The lens is really amazing!
hello Lilly.. Really lovely video and very interesting subject...like your photo choices and comentary is really sweet also...you are a good comentator....thanks for this. I will look at some more...
I'm glad you enjoyed this one as well. I should really make another one of these photography videos at some point.
Also love the folging cameras
the photos are trully nice and spacial .
So fun to use, people really look at you and ask about it.
feels like a time travel 😅😆
Oh, yeah, they definitely are an eye catcher and people react less negatively towards them! Really cool!
@@LillySchwartz yes indeed!
I have two.
One used to be from my grandmother, its as good as new.
Last week i bought a Zeiss Nettar
The Zeiss still gets used on days when I don’t feel like embracing the pack mule life 😂
I thought of fixing the surround sound thing, but it’s a cool effect because the GoPro was attached to the left of the camera on a magic arm. Felt more real? Not quite binaural, but getting closer!
Amaizing Job and camera CONGRATULATIONS
Paint the bellows folds with artists acrylic paint. Two this layer of paint and its done. Mine worked on dreadful old bellows with hundreds of holes.
Won't the bellows get stiff if I paint it with acrylic? Curious!
Wow, that's a lucky find! Can't remember how much I paid for mine, but it was definitely more than that!
Someone gave me a folding camera for Christmas. This video inspires me to find film for it and do some outdoor photography with it.
Oh that’s a nice present! Which one did you get? They are definitely worth shooting, the image quality is really really good on many of them!
@@LillySchwartz I believe it's the Kodak Pocket Junior. I hope I find film for it!
@@LillySchwartz I was wrong: It's a Kodak Jiffy. My apologies!...And, it needs much repair to the bellows :'(
Ah, the Kodak Jiffy takes weird discontinued stuff it seems.
And do know anybody in my surroundings who’d think that way / alsou have zeis icon and waiting for time to use it.
bought a moskva-1 20 yrs ago lol. adapted braun paxette steinheil cassarit 50mm f2.8 to chinese DKL adapter. reversed schneider kreuznach xenoplan 1.4/23mm machine vision lens to lens ring 30.5mm - 49mm glued it to c-mount to pentax q for macro.
whew lol.
Those sound like cool experiments for sure!
Exelent!! Javi Fom Argentina in Brasil.
Interesting camera! :)
Keep up the good work!
Thank you Sina! It‘s definitely an interesting one ✨
I’m going to check out your vids now 😀
Im looking to buy one of these, which is the best other than the 534/16?
Bought a Kodak Senior for $17. Good shape except for bellows. Tried using liquid tape without success (it peeled), so I ended up making a leather sleeve that slides over the bellows and door. Easy to remove and totally lightproof.
I can’t really imagine the design, could you share a picture perhaps? TH-cam doesn’t like it when people comment with links, but maybe you can point me to your instagram or something like that. I still haven’t found that leak and have been thinking of disassembling it to take another stab at fixing it!
@@LillySchwartz tried to send photo. Hope it goes through.
Thanks for trying, but YT doesn’t like it. Doesn’t show up in my comments. Maybe the contact form on my website would work better: www.lillyschwartz.com
Thanks again! Curious to see your solution!
Since it was an old medium format film camera you had looked for, why not hunt for a voigtlander Bessa2 with Haliar lens ? It's also German and excellent or alternatively you could look for another German professional camera, Rolleiflex TLR !
I have a Rolleicord which I love. My second most used camera.
Though, I am tempted!!!😈😈
Anyone wanting to rip my camera gear off would have to be armed pretty well, with me, since I did unarmed combat when I was in the army reserves and my Dad taught me as well.
Lovely video! Greetings from Oslo 😊👍🏻
Thank you Bernt, I’m glad you enjoyed it! ✨
@@LillySchwartz could you pump in (clean) air through the lens mount hole and feel around the body for air leaks?
That’s definitely worth a try! Thanks for the suggestion!
He did it so well 😀
The focus is a rangefinder patch on this one.
Hah, indeed, I was posing very naturally, no GoPro in sight 🤪 I think in documentary circles they call it a reenactment 😉
Liked and subbed Lilly cheers love seeing folk try old cameras I’m a bit of a trier myself. 📷❤️📷
Aw, thanks Paul, much appreciated! Trying different old cameras is always good fun 😀 📸
Vielen Dank!
That episode still has me cry laughing every time I see it 🤣
@@LillySchwartz I hadn’t tried cleaning it, but I have now and it’s a lot better. Thank you for the hydrogen peroxide tip, I’ll definitely get some 🙂👍
It definitely helps a lot in these kinds of situations.
Wow! I have already 2 Ikontas
- 520/2. It has leaks and a need a lot of cleaning inside, but image is already interesting :)
@@LillySchwartzThanks a lot for this thought-provoking answer :)
You are so pretty !!!
In winter the weather is very similar to the south of England, only about 10 degrees warmer which helps a little 😉
I don’t think think the light leak is coming from the lens because there is an edge to the leak.
Im sure you’ll figure the light leak out.
Argus C3 got me goin'
Never tried one of them!
@@LillySchwartz Having wide-open gears on the focus always spooked me at the beach.
Sand + cameras is never a good combo 😂 I’m always extra careful with that.
Thank you! I will have to look for that liquid seal. Maybe I should just cover the entire bellows with this stuff and hope for the best 😅
That noise... it's YOU haha
What noise? 😅
I use anew harmonika 500 yore
you do have great eyebrows
😂 haha thanks! 🤨
nothing wrong with guns ;) dont forget- they save lives too
I don’t think I mentioned guns? The war I mentioned once, but I think I got away with it! 😉
@@LillySchwartz one of the things you didn't like about your dad's town was the gun shows they had, unless I misheard you?
@@LillySchwartz haha i feel you
one way u might find light leak is Leak detection powder / fingerprint powder. fluorescent powders. discotech night =p
all joking aside i tried to look up if fluorescent powders would bother film. i couldnt find something worth mentioning.
😂 that’s a wild idea. Pretty close to throwing glitter at it 🤔
