    Wow. At some point in the video, may be half way, I realized what an outstanding job you did. I totally loved how you used this high quality lens in creative B&W photography and presented it to us. It was really inspiring. I like the results you got with this lens. It was great! Thank you!😊

      Thank you Mark! Luckily video editing makes time travel possible so we have the worst of it behind us already. For a couple of weeks I was going a bit crazy with it though. They drove me out of the house to take pictures 😅 And there is a lot of music related stuff coming! I’m working on a whole bunch of videos at the same time which is why it’s taking a little longer. There is a new album coming too with accompanying videos and I’m really looking forward to those!

    Been awhile but it's great to see you back!!! I had to laugh when you mentioned about the construction noise! I think you must be haunted by construction workers!!😝😝😝 Everywhere you go they seem to follow you around!! Great piccies, BTW! I do the same as you when I get about, anything I see that looks interesting I take pics of. I do like all that graffiti, though! I haven't been out in awhile now, just haven't found the motivation in me so I've been doing other things. Oh, I went and bought myself a couple of 3D printers!! Both Creality printers...an Ender 3D v2 and a Halot One Plus resin printer!! Oh, and a cure and wash machine as well. Modded the Ender a bit as well...added another motor and screw rod, plus a levelling sensor for the print head. Now, I'm adjusting the tension on the x-axis belt and the wheels to try and stop them from binding to the frame of the printer and it's a bit frustrating!! But, I'll get there eventually!!

    • @LillySchwartz
      @LillySchwartz  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you Carl! At this point I believe the construction noise is some cruel cosmic joke! I mean, it’s utterly ridiculous now.
      Sounds like you’re having fun with your 3D printers. I still need to finish my most recent mods on mine, i kinda lost my motivation for it halfway through and now I have all this stuff still sitting on my desk. Maybe that’s something to sort out next after I finally finished this video!

      @LillySchwartz  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Most of the time I don’t talk much about my gear, but there are quite a few Leica POV videos I made before, so watching those could give you an impression already. I also haven’t spoken about digitisation yet. At the moment I scan 35mm with a pakon scanner, which I bought for a good price ten years ago. Without it I would be a tad lost to be honest because scanning tends to be very time consuming. Short of buying a pakon for crazy money I would recommend looking into DSLR scanning. There is a video I made about dust spotting which you might find interesting too: m.th-cam.com/video/oNkNHel2I0w/w-d-xo.html

      @@LillySchwartz Thanks, Lilly!
      As I did my last analogue photos almost 30 years ago, when I was 14, many things are completely new to me.
      How do you scan medium format? After receiving my first scans back from the lab, I was rather disappointed to have some dust and fluff on my b&w scans. Not sure if it is possible to avoid those artifacts completely or which extent is normal here.

    • @LillySchwartz
      @LillySchwartz  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dust is rather unavoidable I’m afraid, especially with flat bed scanners because the scan gets sandwiched between several glass plates and the all can have dust on them on top of the dust on the negative itself. Many labs have more sophisticated scanners like the pakon or drum scanners which reduce dust to an extent. It can’t be avoided completely though and I always have to dust spot my negatives even when I’m very careful and brush all the surfaces off multiple times. I scan medium format with an Epson Perfection v700 which I had for 10 years too. Reliable piece of kit and although the lamp needs warming it produces just as good results as the newer versions of the same scanner. The entire process from start to finish can be quite time consuming, but it’s also meditative and you get time to listen to podcasts and audiobooks while scanning and dust spotting which is also quite nice. If you want to see the process in detail for a really bad example - a deteriorated 70 year old picture, the video I linked is probably informative. At the end I show one of my own pictures for comparison which is fairly representative for how much dust I usually encounter while scanning it myself with a lab scanner. Medium format tends to have more, but it’s also less obtrusive because it appears smaller due to the bigger negative size.

      @LillySchwartz  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! I’m glad you think the music fits well. I always try to go for something moderately calming. I’ve tried to use the construction noises in samples before many times, but I guess being obsessed with Einstürzende Neubauten doesn’t help in this case. Never thought it quite worked with my kind of music. Maybe I’ll try again with these recordings, they’re reasonably clear this time and I have a better grasp of Noise by now. Thanks for the suggestion! 😀

    The video footage with the EOS M looks lovely! Do you use the Magic Lantern patch for shooting raw video?

    • @LillySchwartz
      @LillySchwartz  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, exactly, this was Magic Lantern raw. The footage really turned out great, I was really blown away by the results I was getting with Gyroflow and the GoPro on top. And I didn’t even have the settings dialled in properly, this was just standard HD 14 bit. I can probably improve the image quality even further by using one of the crop modes. I’m still testing different builds and settings to find the right compromise between image quality and crop.

      @LillySchwartz  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m really impressed with my two Noktons. The 50 for daylight swirl, the 35 for a really clean creamy look at night. Not everyone likes swirls, so the 50 is probably less universally attractive, but definitely a capable lens. You’re right, none of the Noctiluxes are very sharp wide open, at least from what I’ve seen online. Couldn’t possibly afford to try one of those out for myself 😳 I mean, lovely lenses, but 11K lovely? I don’t think so. I’m happy with this for character.
      I’ve found some really cool stuff around here already and I’m only just getting started! Definitely a good decision that we moved here 😀 (although I certainly could do with our house reno adventures 😅)

    • @LillySchwartz
      @LillySchwartz  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can just about imagine that! I have two Sigma lenses, the Sigma Superwide II 24mm f/2.8 and the Sigma mini-wide 28mm f/2.8. The 24mm is great and I used it to film the talking head portion of this video. Always my go to for that type of shot. The 28mm is a bit too … characterful for most things? Still haven’t taken any photos with it because the results I got from video were not very convincing I guess.

    I have essentially the same camera and lens (M6 with 50mm f1 Nokton) and I really like the look of it. It’s frustrating to compose a shot when the lens covers nearly 1/4 of the viewfinder so it’s a bit of a mixed bag. But I agree, Zeiss and Voigtlander lenses are great alternatives to Leica. Your video inspires me and now I need to go out and take some pictures.

    • @LillySchwartz
      @LillySchwartz  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s so nice to hear, I’m glad that I inspired you to shoot! And I hear ya on the viewfinder blockage. I always take a moment to double check that there isn’t something ugly hiding in that blind spot 😅 I’m used to it by now though. My 35mm Nokton is also like this, very big and blocking the viewfinder. Do you find that the f/1 is also soft white open?

    The 1.2 Vm is so much better.

    • @LillySchwartz
      @LillySchwartz  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh, no doubt, they definitely improved a lot on the design, so objectively speaking the 1.2 is a lot better, *but* sometimes better isn't what I want. I've considered upgrading perhaps, but then the images from the 1.2 I saw didn't really ... do it for me for some weird reason. I just thought it lacked character. I actually like the flaws of the design in the f/1.1 version. I love swirly bokeh and getting that feel without lugging around my Speed Graphic with a projection lens is a definite plus. It means I can walk around with my f/1.1 to find places where I want to set up the Speed Graphic and the pictures will fall in the same visual style. I will have to talk about that in another video perhaps!
      Hamish also thinks that the f/1.2 is perhaps a little too perfect, just that he prefers the Sonnar: www.35mmc.com/23/09/2019/voigtlander-50mm-1-2-review/

    You blinked 134 times with your eyes within the first 60 seconds you were in picture. To be clear, not the first 60 seconds of the overall video because there is footage without you involded, i counted the first 60 seconds you were on screen wich took me to the 1:31 minute mark of the video. Sometimes you blinked so fast i had to play the video on 0.25x speed to count. So, yes, if you needed that statistics, there you go. I found it fascinating, i've never seen a person blinkin that much and fast. I hope everything is alright with your eyes. best wishes.
