      And Lin did it out of desperation not to get cut again. We have to remember that Jeremy did not ask for Linsanity & did not even know himself that it was coming. Just like him, Linsanity came out of nowhere, although technically he did not come out of nowhere. He was already known at Golden State Warriors as the hometown boy of the Bay area, who was a highschool player of the year yet did not get any scholarships, to have made it into the NBA in 2010.

    He could have been a great off-the bench spark if the league used him better. He wasn't super efficient, and he turned over too much to be a primary option long term. That’s why the Knicks didn’t match the offer cause it’s a low annual salary till the 3rd year then the guy would’ve started making over 14-15 million annually. And back then the salary cap wasn’t what it was today so to have a guy making 15 mil was pretty crazy if he wasn’t a consistent player.

    There are 4 major moments that derailed Lin’s career. 1: The torn meniscus at the height of Linsanity, just horrible luck. When you are still trying to prove yourself, devastating injuries just cause a team to want to move on from you. 2 and 3 are kind of hand in hand: Carmelo’s jealousy and D’Antoni leaving. Melo fundamentally isn’t a winner. He always looks out for himself and his own scoring above team success. He isn’t good enough to be selfish as fuck and win like Kobe. And D’Antoni quitting paired with Melo being jealous was the death nail for him coming back to NY. Then he goes to Houston, Mike is there, Darryl Morrey specifically tells Lon that the team will be built around him. Everything is looking great for Jeremy. 4: OKC decides to trade James Harden to Houston and all of a sudden, a better version of the same position has just landed in Houston. Sorry Jeremy, but this is James’ team now. And he never got another shot with the right coach and right team for him to succeed.

    The fact that Jeremy Lin has 1 ring, and the Knicks have 2, is ridiculous.

    Knicks should have done whatever they could to keep Billups, he brought out the best in Melo, someone to distribute to Melo and Stat.
    Especially Billups since you traded away so many assets to get him and Melo.
    Lin waiving off Kobe is forever legendary, glad he was on my Raptors championship roster.

    Linsanity was incredible, and Jeremy Lin's meteoric rise was borderline movie-like. But we can't put 100% of the blame for its end on Carmelo Anthony. Yes, he was jealous about sharing the spotlight (something he only learned to handle later), but the truth is, Lin was hyped because it's part of Knicks culture. No other team hypes things up or shines a spotlight on 'small moments' like the Knicks. I remember that 7-game winning streak, but eventually, Lin began to show why he went undrafted-the turnovers kept piling up. Losing the streak to Indiana was fine, but the defeat against the Miami Heat was tough to swallow because Lin played poorly in that game.
    Then, the coach changed, and to make matters worse, Lin got injured and was out for the rest of the season. That really watered down the whole 'Linsanity' craze. In the first round of the playoffs, the Knicks faced the Miami Heat during peak LeBron and Dwyane Wade era, and the rest is history. There's a lot of 'what ifs,' and Lin could have had a different career. But at that time, with that team and coach, he wasn’t set up to succeed as an off-ball point guard. And just like we saw later with the Rockets, Lin showed why he went undrafted. It was really sad to see.

    People of Asian ethnicity from a "Western" country don't really have many idols that that they can look up to.. Particularly guys who copped Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and Short round jokes growing up. We don't have sporting champs, billionaires, presidents, Academy winners(until recently) and Nobel prize winners that we call our 'own', Jeremy Lin was one, albeit a flash in the pan for some. He was someone that that was respected and achieving the never thought possible. Its really hard to put into words what he meant to the Western Asian community.

    • @rampar77
      @rampar77 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wrong, sports were never any Asian priority. many Asians shinned in business and science STEM. I personally worked with many. We earned a hell lot more than many sport athletes.
      We were known and proud for our hard working and intelligence. That was more than enough.

    I REALLY don’t think Kobe was being disrespectful, he honestly didn’t seem like he knew anything about Jeremy, and who could blame him? He was in the midst of a season also, Kobe had no reason to know anything about him at that point.

    Jeremy Lin was never really that good. He had those outstanding games because his defenders underestimated him and there weren’t a lot of videos of Jlin in the database for them to study on. After a few months, when people started catching up on Jlin’s style and moves, Jlin got grounded real quick

    • @liferealgood

      Let him walk away? Because of the Arenas provision they would’ve had to pay Lin $23m in year three. For $23m they were better off.
