I have wanted a dog for a long time, and weirdly enough, I always imagined that I would name the dog buddy. I had no idea, Sir Ian McKellen calls his dog buddy as well.
@@ElliottPiano They could de age him a little and have another actor play the physical running and fighting stuff. And have Sir McKellen just do the sitting and standing scenes. Like they did with Sir Chrisopher Lee in the Hobbit, Sir Lee was 92-year-old.
Yeah it is a cage at the end of the day, regardless of why or how long the animal is kept in it - even if it enters it willingly it's still locked in a box with bars.
The day I read that dreaded headline somewhere my heart breaks.. He's my third grandfather! I love this man and his career! Thank you mister Sir Ian Mckellen for being you!
The End of his life? End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it. White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise
@@gladiatorscoops4907 Well that is unfortunately not real life. Also as well written as the line is, I always found it kinda odd since Gandalf is immortal lol.
this man is actually on of the all time legends...i hope he continues recovering and being such an engaging and phenomenal human for sooo many generations. fly you fool...i love how he handles the presenters like a pro.
For all of us who were there back then when they were first released LOTR trilogy, he is literally everyones cosy Uncle in a way. Cant believe they started the project in 1999 (Peter Jackson) and pre production, that is literally soon 26 years ago. A big chunk of the people on the webb, were not even borned! And i hope in my heart that Ian Mckellen will play Gandalf once last time. And i hope he stays healthy in years to come! Time flyes by so fast! 👏🏼
This is the first time i watch him on an interview, he looks very healthy to be honest. I am confident he will return on screen for a movie in middle earth 👌
One of the nicest things about playing an exceedingly old wizard when you are not, yourself, exceedingly old, is that 25 years later, when you appear as yourself, you look not a day older than people imagine you were back then.
No question, Ian McKellen is the goat. And the work he has done in lord of rings & the hobbit trilogy is nothing short of a masterpiece. But I do feel that age is catching up on him now massively. & If the new gollum movies have 2. I feel they may strongly need to consider a much younger fresher gandalf. As if we remember the fellowship of the ring was well over 20 years ago now.
I may be the only one who agrees with you, the gentleman is reaching advanced age and most of his fans are eager to have him go to work when it might be best for him to quietly retire from filmwork. Apparently, they do not know the ardors of acting in a motion picture, it is taxing work even on the young. To say no other professional actor can fill the role of Gandalf is, wrongheaded to be polite. I for one would be saddened if he were to take the role and endanger his health or worse during production but the choice is up to him.
I did not know this channel existed until a few minutes ago when the interview with Sir Ian McKellen showed up. No one could EVER play Gandalf the way he did.
Love Sir Ian. No one else need ever play Gandalf. Funny story, back when the original Peter Jackson movies were announced (yes, I am that old, and quite a bit older), and a LOTR website began revealing the casting, I saw an acting mug shot of Sir Ian and became incensed. He's all wrong, I complained. He doesn't even have the pointy nose that Tolkien described. I really was put out. Then, I saw Sir Ian in the movies and gladly ate crow. He was and is amazing.
Sir Ian is a national treasure, but i still think the best depiction of Gandalf on the silver screen was William squire in ralph bakshi's Lord of the rings in 1978.
Dumbledore had to be recast because of Richard Harris's death and they had only done a couple of films. Think I still prefer Harris's version than Gambon’s. McKellan has played Gandalf in 6 films.
He’s never late, nor is he early- Sir Ian arrives precisely when he means too

Sir Ian is a national treasure. Probably even a worldwide one considering how everybody loves Gandalf
Pardon me, as a Brazilian, I say he is an international treasure
While some will know him as older Erik/Magneto, he will always be Gandalf to everyone myself included
Universal treasure.
He embodies the role, I don't see anyone else being able to pull it off under the standard he set. The same with Christopher Lee and Saruman.
dressing like he’s 40 years younger and pulling it off with style….what a legend 😍
He's surely trashed by his peers. Peers trash everyone who is not behaving. Only older or younger people think they're cool.
He is gay. They dress differently.
i see your gaydar is active

This man is so incredible. My all time favorite character is Gandalf. I love that he has his dog with him ❤
Presenter trying to be PC: I think we call it a crate.
Ian: Nooo, it’s a cage. 😂
That's how all sane people should deal with the PC police. Softening language for everything is madness.
Incredible gentleman. LOTR wouldn't have been the same without him and Christopher Lee.
Love how he put that man in his place with that nonsensical attempt to change a word

The good thing about playing Gandalf is that he's already ancient, so Ian McKellen can play him over the course of 25 years and it doesn't matter.
