I think my favorite is your grandma going to town. A lot of the older generation is opposed to meals like this and you can tell she genuinely enjoys it. Great video
Christopher! I appreciate this message, I love how you noticed this! Yes, she did like it, she even wanted to go AGAIN (a third time!!) haha. She is awesooooome. Have a great day today Chris!
This guy is an expert, I think he lived in Addis or somewhere in Ethiopia, he even pronounces the type of foods very well. Good job, thanks for the video !!
Wow, Danny that’s an excellent comment and a huge compliment!! I spent my teenage years in Nairobi, Kenya, and going for Ethiopian food was a highlight of my life 😂♥️💛💚
This guy is so positive, gifted explainer of cultural experiences, and he made me to believe that spicing up things with advertisment/ promotionals could even be greater than the thing itself. His descriptions made it as if Ethiopian food is made in heaven. No one gets bired living with this guy. God bless you!
Biruk, I have to say, its an honour to read comments like this! Right on man thanks for your own positivity, your honesty, thank you for spending time with my entire family and I here today in Ann Arbor :)
The Lord's blessings to you, Joel, and sister Li. My mouth is watering, and my heart overflowing. But I think I loved the family stories the most!😃What a treat! Blessings, BruCrew!
Yawwwwwwww man oh man oh man... your spirit was of course present at meal two round two, and for REAL your amazing laughter was still resounding in that room. Cheers to the sharing of stories, and thanks again for the stories we were able to make together during this trip. Priceless. God bless you brother, speak again very soon!!!
WingFan! Thats excellent, no way! Well, I have been to another "Blue Nile" in Ferndale as well, many years ago, very cool to see there's a new location way out in AA!
MAN you are more Ethiopian than the real Ethiopians, you know so much about the food and culture, and I have big respect for you. SELAM to you and your family from Eritrea Asmara PS- just so that you are aware of it: ETHIOPIA and ERITREA share the same food culture.
Betrihaki :) wonderful message, really one of the best for the whole video!! in Kenya some of our closest friends were from Eritrea, they’re family was the COOLEST and most kind (and wow their mom could COOK ❤️💛💚), I still remember that well after now 20 years. Have a great day, peace be upon you as well, I appreciate your message very.
Ethiopian and Mediterranean food is very tasty. I have not tried to eat with my hands, always with a fork of spoon. Some day I will just go for it and get messy. So cool to see your Mom, Dad, your Wife Li, and your Grandmother. Thanks for sharing your time in Michigan with all of us. Happy Anniversary 🎉
Andy!!! Hey hey hey brother, great to see you today!! Man, the hand-eating is just unbeatable, but yes it takes some getting used to. For me Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, actually more than not in Thailand too, and then India, Mexico, (Mediterranean, many countries and cultures) man I think all of these cuisines are my favorites in some way because they are all hand-held foods!
Thank you for liking our traditional food and introducing it with the world ❤i love your genuine loving personality it takes a lot to love outside of your culture . All your families are lovely God egzeabeher bless you all ❤
Joel, congratulations on your wedding. The Simpsons had an episode where accidentally Marge ended up in Little Ethiopia. The concept of family unity, generosity, sharing is clearly demonstrated in the episode. Ethiopians prefer eating from one large tray, Mesob, as your mom aptly described it. Gursha (ጉርሻ) is the practice of feeding one another. It is an expression of love and caring. My advice to anyone who is invited to an Ethiopian family meal; don’t eat a lot with your own hands because the family members that invited you will be giving you Gursha after Gursha 😊till you are stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey 😂. Lentils is Misir (ምስር) if it is whole, and Misir Kik (ምስር ክክ) if it is split Lentils. Cabbage is Tikil Gomen (ጥቅል ጏመን). I’m glad you and your family enjoyed your meal. Your understanding of Ethiopian meal etiquette and knowledge of spices is admirable. Thanks for highlighting Ethiopian cuisine and culture. Many blessings to you and your family. Please reach out if you ever happen to come to Los Angeles so we can share a meal and hopefully more of the culture and tradition of Ethiopia.
First of all, Congratulations! As a wife of an Ethiopian and as we had both watched this mouthwatering, most abundant creation of foods, Ethiopian food just has a natural way that creates family happiness and memories. We are here on the other side of the border and from your video, we now know where to have our stop over before winter. Thanks for sharing.
Shewa, SO cool to meet you, great to hear from you today!! Greetings to the both of you :) I hope you do get a chance to visit Blue Nile in Ann Arbor!!
I really admire you for remebering to pray for the young ones who served you. I always respect people who serve at restaurants and I express that by leaving a very genourous tip
Oh lovely to see you praying before eating. You just reminded me back home having a meal with everyone at home. Here sometimes I just jump in to it before blessing/praying. Enjoy yetbarke yehune
Congratulations on the wedding celebration Joel, Li and family. This might be my favorite episode yet just listening about your memories enjoying Ethiopian food through the years with your family. Awesome that your grandmother was able to join.
Wes!!!!! Man, that is a beautiful message, I am very, very stoked to see you here :-) I recognize you from your thumbnail, even though it’s only 5 mm wide ha ha, that shows how much of a support you are for me.
Thanks Joel and you’re loved once for enjoying our Ethiopian food. You are a great Ethiopian ambassador. I think the few things that are missing -- 1, you gave Gursha to your mom only once. It should be twice. 2, you should have Gursha your grand mom and your wife. 3, the restaurant should have included the eggs with the Doro wat.
My first time trying will be next week. In Syracuse, NY. I will be traveling for work so I will be eating alone. So I won’t have the vibe of a family/friend to share with. Looking forward to the experience.
Ive read this comment several times now over the past few days, so cool :) love how you are cheering for both my mom and grandma from (across the world?) much love to you! right back to you, thank you :) have a great day!
Lovely to see all of you reminiscing about the past. It's always a blessing to enjoy time with loved ones, especially your Grandmother.🥰 Treasure your time with her and capture her and her memories as much as possible. God bless 🙏
Sarah!! Wow, yes! What a cool day (and month) it was, yes you’re right about all that you’ve said. Happy Sunday, and I hope you have time to spend with someone close to you today 🥳❤️💛💚
Good Morning Li & Joel & greetings to the entire Bru Crew! Once again, congratulations on your nuptials! Coming to the USA my thinking was that you'd be eating deep-dish pizza, hot dogs & beef sandwiches, and all the good Chicago food you've probably missed so much. Guess again! LOL Peace be with you ... have a Blessed week !
Ron!!! Goooooood morning man, and thanks for always greeting everyone together! Well man, that is indeed a hard question (what are we "missing," and because its early in the morning here, I'm gonna be thinking much more deeply than just food :) ) So! Actually I never miss the foods you've mentioned, pizza is the only one that I like but we've always made pizza at home (even in Africa) - the thing I always "miss" about USA is and has only ever been the people! My people, my family and friends, but also the PEOPLE of every color and nation that make up the USA. I've always loved that, and that's the thing I miss (#2 would be nature, the big outdoors and the accessible outdoors, that is something that USA has that few other places do).
Thanks for the good question Ron and for evoking a thoughtful answer, I enjoy the conversation... hey, as always I love that you bless our WEEK and not just today. TODAY for me, I'm learning about how "Small Positive Changes + Consistency + Time = Radical Growth," a pretty good sermon Im listening to right now.

Hi Joel and family and hi to all BruCrew; it’s been a long long time since I’ve watched one of these food vids so glad this one was about Ethiopian cuisine. Thanks for sharing and for the memories. Although we have some really great Ethiopian restaurants in TO I’ve never tried the food but we’re fortunate to see Chef Marcus Samuelsson on TV almost weekly; he’s done a wonderful job showcasing Ethiopian cuisine and culture. I was a little surprised the green lentils didn’t seem to be a favourite 😋 My sis/family lives close to Ann Harbour; I’ll keep it in mind the next time you visit MI. Much love as always 🥰🥰🥰
@@JoelsTastyRide Hi Joel 👋 it’s great to hear from you too. I’ve been to Ann Arbor a few times; it’s a pretty city in the greater Detroit area and not too far from where my sister lives. If you get the chance to check out Chef Marcus I think you’ll like his style. He was born in Ethiopia but was adopted by Swedish parents and grew up in Sweden. I love his upbeat and easy outgoing personality and his food is all about flavour!! Keep well and stay safe!! 🥰🥰🥰
Hello, I like the way you explain it and I'm glad that your family likes the food. It's nice when you feed your mother (Gursha) means it has a big place in Ethiopia and the symbol expresses love, empathy, and family.
Biruk! So cool to welcome you today, thank YOU for taking time to comment on this video! I hope you find other videos on this channel to be fun. Hope to hear from you again soon!
Love the video. The love you have for the food is great to see. Just a tiny bit correction is the white enjera is not rice based. Its Teff based. The smallest grain in the world and it originated in Ethiopia. And its also glutten free. There is nech teff (white teff) and key tef (the brown one). Because of the scarcity of the grain outside of Ethiopia restaurants tend to mix the batter with rice and other grains. "wot" means stew. Keep up the good work.
Love that communal dish, this is the first video I have seen your grandma I love her she was so into trying the different dishes. All thumbs up to your mom with the memory of Kenya and her allowing you that lovely gesture to feed her. I love your family Joel it is no wonder you turn out the beautiful person you are.❤
Hi Joel Li may God be with you and best wishes 🎉😊 Let your love overflow with us by inspiring and share us all your amazing videos goodluck as always ❤
Thank you so much for the blessings and for the message today Fantone, thank you for hanging out together with my family around this meal and experience
Joel, as my family and I enjoyed our dinner, we watched this episode and I just had to share how much we loved it. Your vlog exudes respect and knowledge, and it couldn't have come at a better time when I'm missing my loved ones. I can't wait to treat them to a restaurant outing soon. God bless you and your family.
Ake, what a lovely message. Thank you VERY much for taking time to write :) This does sound like a nice dinner, greetings to you and your entire family. Thank you for your message, I hope you do look forward to (and then enjoy every minute of) this soon-to-be awesome meal together!!
Big Congratulations to you and Li brother Joel!❤ So happy you both are enjoying your time in the US with your family. Sending love, hugs and blessings for a long and prosperous life filled with happiness 🙏💖🌈.
I found your video quite entertaining as I chuckled throughout. Despite being Ethiopian, there were some bits of information that were new to me. The video was truly amazing, and I particularly enjoyed the glimpses of your family. Thank you so much for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it! Seriously Derem thats quite an amazing message. I can only say that the good information was taught to me, I am just a beginner for this amazing food and these delicious and complex recipes!!
i am so happy to see you making new happier memories in my home town : ) i think this is the spirit of the transfiguration, changing the face of what you think you know and opening the boundaries between worlds…btw i have enjoyed the blue nile since they opened their ann arbor location; it was my first exposure to ethiopean food.
The simpledness of family dinner is something I miss wholeheartedly. Also thank you for the lesson on some of the Ethiopian food edicit - it all looks amazing 😍
Glad you enjoyed it Elle, SO cool to see your name here again (or today :) time zones... haha), AND Im looking forward to getting together again very soon!

It's my pleasure Miki, really, where I grew up this was our "family treat" meal, our special Friday night meal or Sunday afternoon, so it has the best memories for me AND the best flavor :)
We are good man, Scott!! Thank you for the message. Scott man it was a wonderful party, a great after-party (actually there WAS a pre-party, thats the one that Yaw gave to us!!) - it was a special day for sure. OHANA rocking out, great that you're here today man.
Aloha @Scott, hoping this finds you well! I’m so sad to see and read of the devastation & destruction caused by the wildfires in Maui. I pray you, your family and community are safe - if memory serves correctly I don’t think you’re in Maui but nevertheless you’ve all been affected. I’m sending love and prayers for everyone in Hawaii. It was so shocking how swiftly lives and livelihoods were lost. You and yours are incredibly brave and just know we’re praying for you all. Much, much love and hugs 🥰🥰🥰🫂🫂🫂❤💚💛
Wow, thank you for sharing you and your lovely family’s memory while enjoying my favorite restaurant almost my second home I go there at least 3, 4 time a week great food, great staff and amazing owners they has been running this location since 1989. 🎉 thanks again
Glad you enjoyed it GPrimo, what a cool message to get today! Wow!! Yes, I thought the place was spectacular, SO authentic, more than expected... and wow, since 1989??? It makes sense
Thank you so much for appreciating our culture and cuisine. Bless your parents and I hope your parents enjoy it. BTW, injera is not rice based. Take care my brother.
WOW! Great! The whole family is in on teaching us this, with your African history! Please! If you know anyone who wants to open an Ethiopian restaurant in Chiang Mai, get them here! Sorely missing this! Went through Ann Arbor a number of years ago, wish I had known about this. I always seem to miss Ethiopian food, when I'm in a town that has it or, live some where that doesn't. Shout out to Grandma! and welcome back to C.M.!
Hahaha DON!!!! man oh man now THAT is a plan brother!! if we could convince people just to come once, it would be a hit forever. Amen, it’s great to be back, thank you for taking the time to write, let’s have coffee together again very soon.
what a cool experience, i loved the way you guys were enjoying the food without any doubt. especially the way you guys respected the culture of eating by your hand is 🙌💓.
Praying before eating is the most grateful moment before the Lord! This is what the new generation can't make and that's why they are bored in life. Good food review!😊
CINDY :) Hi Cindy, wow, now I know you've seen a lot of the videos so that is saying something... but also yes for sure this was a special one, we will never forget the week we had here in Michigan :). have a beautiful day yourself, say hi to you on Sat night/Sunday :)
@@JoelsTastyRide sorry I am behind on keeping up with your travels…unfortunately I have been on a struggle bus with my health. Glad to hear you are back home safe and sound and yes there is no place like home. Next time you plan to come to the USA I would love to show you The Eastern Shore of Maryland and all its beautiful iconic small towns including our National Seashore Park with Wild Horses at Assateague Island, fishing people that bring the bounty of our ocean and bay. The many small islands that only ferry boats can access and no cars driven on the islands. We also have a strong Indigenous American tribal community. I personally live very close to Berlin MD named best small town in America for many years now and gorgeously picturesque.
Great family celebration. After 36 years of marriage, we are still looking for date nights. There is only one Nigerian restaurant in Fresno, and only 2 out of 7 kids at home. Sounds like a family date night in the future.

Amazing video unlike many bloggers you shared the meal with family, which is exactly how we eat our food. Love the gursha you did, this is also Why we dont rotate the tray lol, never. Portion should be in each side and share the rest with gursha. Thanks for your video
Walt! As usual, I can and can't believe it. YES you are first, haha and God is blessing us (as real as ever this week, its not "almost scary" it IS scary. The fear of God is real to me this week.)
I love how your personality just shines through. When you started praying, you literally transported me back to the days when I used to eat injera with my family. 😩 Such amazing memories. 🩶so detailed and such a joy to watch. Thank u! (wot means stew) 😊
The food looked delicious. Not to take away from the fantastic meal...but...I couldn't help but smile when your mom did such a "mom thing" during pre-meal prayer. She was doing that "mom head nodding" in agreement with your thankfulness for family and invoking help and wellbeing for others. It's been many years since my mom has passed, but I remember when I was younger watching her and other moms nodding their head while someone said prayers. That little nod made me feel secure in their sincerity of prayer. It was a family meal indeed. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for that! I will remember :) (Ive never made it, just shared with my friends from their moms making it at home) Have a wonderful day today, thank you for the comment and for spending time with us!!

Joel, as my family and I enjoyed our dinner, we watched this episode and I just had to share how much we loved it.
Such a blessing to watch you guys pray and eat my cultural food. Thank you and shower of blessings for sharing this. 🙏💚💛❤🙏
i am so happy to see you making new happier memories in my home town : ) i think this is the spirit of the transfiguration, changing the face of what you think you know and opening the boundaries between worlds…btw i have enjoyed the blue nile since they opened their ann arbor location; it was my first exposure to ethiopean food.
Wow that injera is so white lol. Im Ethiopian and rarely see it in that color

See you soon brother 🙏

Hey, Thank you for showing us Ethiopian foods, amazing stories from you and your dad! 🦏
thank you so much for showing our food
It's my pleasure Miki, really, where I grew up this was our "family treat" meal, our special Friday night meal or Sunday afternoon, so it has the best memories for me AND the best flavor :)
Sabaidee Joel! Food looks tasty. Never had Ethiopian food before. Closest restaurants are in Sacramento which is about an hour from where I stay.

Hope your week has been lovely ❤
@@JoelsTastyRidelove you and Li
@@maxf3253 it’s been a challenging week
Happy anniversary
Thank you 😊 so much love always for both of us, Eva thank you for the most beautiful message on today's video

WOW!
Joel you are awesome, nice seeing the family togetherness, congratulations on your wedding
This is crazy but the purple water pitcher they are using is Fiesta Ware from West Virginia. I live here and have a yellow on just like it!
God bless Ethiopian ❤
Amen! And Amen 🤘🏽🤘🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽
What a sweet family
what a cool experience, i loved the way you guys were enjoying the food without any doubt. especially the way you guys respected the culture of eating by your hand is 🙌💓.
Praying before eating is the most grateful moment before the Lord!
This is what the new generation can't make and that's why they are bored in life.
Good food review!😊
Same, much love, thank you for the great words, the positivity, and just for taking time to hang out with us in this restaurant today!! Respect.
❤️ This was so awesome... It felt as we were at this special meal with you 😉🤓 What blessed memories made to always have to recall on.. 🤗💚☮️

Where Have you been , then again don't answer that.....❤
Sorry to hear about your departure from the USA. Happy safe travels my friend ❤
Why thank you Deana! Its not a bad thing at all, we are happy at home
O-H.. love the channel man. Keep em coming!
Very happy to see you happy Christopher. I will do my best!
Great family celebration. After 36 years of marriage, we are still looking for date nights. There is only one Nigerian restaurant in Fresno, and only 2 out of 7 kids at home. Sounds like a family date night in the future.
You are the best Joel, Li and all family much respect from S.A ❤
Beautiful family thanks for sharing this with us!💖
Joel, we are from AA , MI, and sorry we missed you. We just love the way you show appreciation for everything from the culture, architecture, people, the way you explain everything to your viewers, your blessings before during and after you video content. It was a pleasure again watching and following May God bless you, you’re family and safe travels home for you both.
WOW ❤️💛💚 what a wonderful message. Yes, Cheryl that is too bad that we did not get together, I really appreciate your message today. That is a huge support, right now really I am wondering where to go next, what to do next, I really do appreciate you taking the time to write.

Hi LoveTheGame! I hope youre having a great day today!! Thank you for a very cool message, thanks for taking time to hang out (thanks for the compliments, but I can always learn more!!) Take care, hope to see you again sometime.
Amazing video unlike many bloggers you shared the meal with family, which is exactly how we eat our food. Love the gursha you did, this is also Why we dont rotate the tray lol, never. Portion should be in each side and share the rest with gursha. Thanks for your video
Above all the admiration you made for Ethiopian food, My favorite is the group prayer
May God Bless you and your family
#1. Happy Thursday morning. God bless. 🙏🏽
Walt! As usual, I can and can't believe it. YES you are first, haha and God is blessing us (as real as ever this week, its not "almost scary" it IS scary. The fear of God is real to me this week.)

Wow you guys eat like a pro! Thanks for all the good stories 💚💛❤ 🇪🇹
I’ve been to several Ethiopian restaurants in the States I’ve never seen a refill of wott only injera. The restaurant you were at is very generous!
Hi again, thanks for the good messages
Superb video👌🏾
Lovely family!!
I love how your personality just shines through. When you started praying, you literally transported me back to the days when I used to eat injera with my family. 😩 Such amazing memories.
🩶so detailed and such a joy to watch. Thank u!
(wot means stew) 😊
Happy anniversary Joel and Li may God bless you both for many many more years. ❤️
Blessings
I always thought tht you nd mark are brothers? 😮 Good content buddy 🇪🇹 thanks for the exposure 🙏🏾shout-out to you from Addis Ababa
Yes we are, correct!! and GREAT to feel the love from Addis, great to hear from you :) Have a wonderful Monday!
Thank you for sharing. Firfir is made of sun dried or oven dried injera not "fried injera". I love your videos. Great job! Bless you.
Thanks for that! I will remember :) (Ive never made it, just shared with my friends from their moms making it at home) Have a wonderful day today, thank you for the comment and for spending time with us!!
Thanks!
