- A special video to share with YOU, our online family of sorts :) If you were wondering about my (Joel's) upbringing, or just wondering about my parents in ways that don't require me to give the answers - here you go :) This was wonderful even for me to be able to have as a story-time over a great meal of our favorite Indian food... and I hope it is a blessing to you today as well.
Thank you for hanging out with us, thank you for sharing the time together. I hope that my parents inspire you in some of the same ways they've inspired me, and I can't wait to hear more about your responses in the comments (AND in our next livestreams!!) - I wish you the best of days today.

My early childhood was in West Africa, my parents were international development workers helping governments set up the public school systems. They were there during the Biafran war and came very close to the conflict. A cholera outbreak also made things difficult, but the experience was very positive and enriching overall. Some of their best years too. Nice to see someone with a similar experience.

Wow,Joel what great people your parents are. I didn't know that they were missionaries in Liberia. My husband is from Liberia,he came to the US for post medical school residency. The war prevented him from returning. That war has changed Liberia for the worse. I'm from the Caribbean and have visited Liberia several times. We were actually in Liberia when the "World stopped" in March of 2020. We do some charitable work there. We have a trip plan for April 2022. God willing we will have an uneventful trip. Thank God for people like your parents that are willing to leave the comfort of their homes to spread The Word.
The word must go forward so I am happy that there are people who are sharing the word of God all over the world

Griselis:):) I am smiling where you say, you probably won’t get a response back… One of the hardest things but also the most meaningful is trying to respond to every single message from every single video. Several hours a week but I occasionally manage it to the end :-) ha ha. That is wonderful about your own journey following the example of Jesus, we are together in this. And this is great. Hallo Joel, my Parents are Missionarys too but in Brasil. They was sandet from Germany to there. We move allot too but just inside of Brasil. I came to Germany sins 2001 and live here.

I'm a Senior Citizen, disabled. Married to Rosie/wife of 48 yrs. 6 Childre/10 grandkids/3greatgrand babies. Life is so Amazing. Life/Reality is an everyday learning experience and will continue to be that way, even throughout eternity. We all will be thought by THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY. I did spend many years volunteering my time with youths as a coach in sports and I have learned, mainly Blessed by these young Kids to have been a part of my life as well as touching my life in so many ways. Wow Joel I have to say your father is a very distictive speaker sounds like a very educated man. I see where you get your humbleness and kindness from. The way your mom explained the war and how it affected people. No doubt she became a nurse, caring for others. My word your parents went through a lifetime. You certainly have a blessed family, Loved how your dad said God took care of us and we waited for God to open a door for us, that is what you call faith. Joel you are both of them and a child of God they raised you well. Off course the food look delicious. Another thing I see is the love your dad and mom have for each other and the love they have for you. Love how your mom said you inspired them and your siblings also. Parents need to get back to raising their children in the admonishnion of the Lord. Put God back in the homes, in the schools, on our lives.

I have had a medical education and Career most of my life and I too believe giving to others in times of need or distress you learn so much about giving and not expecting anything back. I learned more about myself and life from so many of my patients that I took care of. I have been blessed to have the ability to make a living and learn daily from everyone I am in contact with in my job. Even the tiniest of patients I took care of taught me to have patience, love someone you don’t know unconditionally and have grace be your guide in life.
Loved listening to your parents’ stories and experiences. I know they have so many more stories, they could write a book. 😆 The food and restaurant looks absolutely amazing!

Wow your parents are so lovely man. It is rare to see this on youtube or anywhere really. Your parents are very proud and loving towards you, you can see it in their body language. It is my belief that being there for your parents is so important in their old age my parents are 85 and 75 and I see them 3 times a week minimum. You are truly blessed man. It’s starting to sound like the proverbial broken record but of all your videos this is probably my favourite yet. Your parents are so lovely and real charmers … and patient to a fault. Every time I see your Mom I think how much she reminds me of one of my camp counsellors and den mother when I was between 9 - 11 years old … the two could be sisters physically and spiritually. When you looked at your parents and asked them “why did you raise me this way” I had a good chuckle but then thought, hmm, that’s an opportunity I missed … I wish I could turn to my parents with that question. 😂😂 The meal looked and must’ve been amazing … I could’ve dived head first into that delicious pool of bhindi … yum. 😋😋 Thanks for sharing, and for sharing Mom & Dad with us. From the first video I saw of you and Mark on his channel I felt a kindred spirit as a TCK myself. I’ve loved seeing you travel through Pakistan together where I spent 5 years and love Mark’s current series in Bangladesh where I spent 3 years. Thailand was the place we did RNR growing up. The founding of Liberia in the early 1800s was motivated by the domestic politics of slavery and race in America …freed blacks sought relief n Liberia was the place they went….same lessons could have been learned had blacks in America been thought of as human beings…
