I've binged all your train vs plane races and I love your style. It's really funny how the train is only slightly late for both Amsterdam and Edinburgh, when I would expect the train to be faster option for the latter. As a fan of trains I think a drawback of Eurostar is that you still need to do the passport control (even if you got away easy this time). I know you are UK based, but it would be really interesting to compare journeys in the Schengen area, eg Amsterdam-Frankfurt or Paris-Milan, as you can literally just hop on the train minutes before departure. Amsterdam-Frankfurt should take only about 4.5 hours, but DB trains are notorious for being delayed which might add to the suspense. Paris-Milan takes somewhat longer at almost 7 h, but you get views of the Alps and the executive seats on the frecciarossa are really luxurious from what I've seen on youtube, so it would be a nice comfortable ride at 300 kph. To make this one comparable maybe try travelling with luggage and take public transport to the airport. Looking forward to the next race!
Another great vid, great to see more and more posts on the channel, cant wait for more! I just want to know how KLM compares to other airlines which serve in the same areas?
If you mean London - Amsterdam, it's really all the same, nothing overly impressive and (at least out of LHR) delays, I spent two weeks bouncing around Europe and the UK and yeah, the train is the way to go at least to the 3 hour flight boundary.
For Short distance flight it’s not worth it to fly with those expensive airlines (Lufthansa, British airways, klm) since the services is the same as with easyJet it eurowings. If you fly long distance it’s better to fly with them
Somewhat ironically, the quick and frequent train services to and from the airports played a major role in the plane beating the train. Imagine having to wait for a bus... Or worse, taking Ryanair from Stansted to Eindhoven (cheaper, but would probably take 5 hours for this race)...
I normally really like Schiphol, but if Liam had landed on the Polderbaan he might still be on the plane. ;) It would be interesting to see the relative costs, as Nicky took the expensive version of the train, but I don't know about Liam.
Considering the Business Premier checkin and security makes a huge time saving, it's not 100% a like for like comparison to an economy class ticket on KLM. I would love to see the comparison with a bog-standard eurostar ticket with the huge queues mentioned :)
@@septology but you have to get to the station a lot earlier with a standard ticket then a business premier ticket, and business premier is crazy expensive

I do think that is comparable because he flew from London City which costs Premium usually. Even getting to Heathrow would be longer, never mind Gatwick or Stansted.
Calculating from door to door the train is a big time win for me. I always fly from Eindhoven to Stansted. The total time of traveling from my house to st Pancras is over an hour more than by train. But train is more expensive, so depends on the plans for us.
Fab ! But Liam was at the airport boarding gate 2hours before departure and he could have been there 1 hour before and still been ok . So plane is an hour quicker this time 🙂
"Interesting smells here"." Hahaha. I loved this, I'll watch the others. I took the train to Paris but the plane to Amsterdam, trains are just so much more relaxing and you get to see all the scenery go by. I'd rather be on the move rather than standing in an airport queue
I lived in the Netherlands for a year, my favourite airline was KLM. They’re professional, efficient, provide really good food and a top quality service in general. Only downside is they on the expensive end of airlines.
Next time London - Rotterdam, that could be an even closer call! Hi-speed train from Schiphol to Rotterdam Central is 25 minutes, but there is also a metro/bus to Rotterdam airport (a bit more than 20 minutes). From Rotterdam Airport there is a connection with London City as well
Some others numbers (corrected): there are about 60 flights a day from the 6 airports of London to Amsterdam Schiphol, 12.000 seats vv. A full Eurostar train consisting of 2 engines and 18 coaches carry 750 seats. To replace air traffic, 16 of those Eurostars a day would be needed. That is one train every hour in each direction. Currently thera are 4. Anybody wondering why short term train tickets are expensive?
Most interesting - the train is my preferred mode of travel. I’d like to see less of the race aspect and see how the two compare in natural time. I doubt I could , in fact I know could not, run from Centraal to Dam Square.
A 4hr train ride is in the sweetest spot where it is the most preferable mode to take over air. However, given the the fact that the flight was from City Airport to Schiphol (which is extremely close and well connected to the Amsterdam Central) it negated a lot of benefits offered by rail. Great race and I'd still take rail any day of the week.
Honestly... The train seems to be less of a hassle. Sure, from the Bridge, both had to take mass transport but after that, the train is definitely the least "dramatic."
Didn't mean that as an insult. Just there's less "oooh, security lines, checked bags, will I make it my gate halfway across the airport.. come on board faster, will the weather or ATC hold us and delay, will there be an opened gate upon landing. . Hurry hurry move faster and get off... is there public transport and is it running?" Mind you... I have millions of flight miles (14 flights scheduled in the next 7 weeks). The train route just seemed mostly "drama free."
@@xnyrage Ohh, I see! I prefer the train as well. Even though delays happen and you can miss your connection, I just couldn't deal with the hassle of just sitting around for hours and then being cramped in such a small space 😅 Also, the train is much more environmentally friendly so that's why I prefer it too ☺️
Yup... see... less "drama." I love a quality train system. And I love nothing more than actually stepping onto a plane. I would love to have this choice documented in this video.
Another advantage of the train over the plane, which people tend to forget to consider, is the following: If you have work to do, reading or writing on a laptop, for example, on the train you start working even before the train leaves and you can work without interruption until reaching the final destination. On the plane, you have to wait for the plane to take off and have gained height and stability to start working - hoping there is no turbulence on the way. When the plane is about to land, you must stop working. As the train goes smoothly all the way, on a two-hour train journey, you may work for two hours. On a two-hour plane trip, you may work at most for one and even then with a lower degree of concentration and performance.

The flight takes approx 1 hr & 15 minutes while the train (which is a diesel powered Siemens trainset similar to Austria's Railjet) is expected to take around 3 hours.
It isnt if you try to book ot and find out how much it costs to a plane ticket and how uncomfortable it is in Standard class (where the prices are still double the price for a plane ticket).
Congrats Liam, better luck next time Nicky. I gather Nicky had to pick up the tab at the "coffee house" ? lol. You guys have the best music in your videos. Stay safe in your travels.

Eurostar are adding an additional service to Rotterdam and Amsterdam which will depart St Pancras at around 6.15am. I'm not sure when this additional service will commence.
Enjoyed watching this, but ….. you should cover the cost of each. As the times were nearly identical, the cost could be a major deciding factor. Train travel in Europe looks fantastic!
For teh same price, I would take the train, just to avoid the hastle in Schiphol to take the next train. and also for the meal, looked really good for a travel.
I am from Amsterdam but lived in London for three years. Therefore I made this journey about 50 times. Unfortunately, the tickets of KLM are usually about 1/3 of the price compared to Eurostar. In case you fly EasyJet (LHR - AMS) it can be even cheaper. That said, I would have definitely chosen train over plane if the prices were not that high. Not sure what the price differences are at the moment.
Even though flying might be a tad quicker, I'll go for the train. It's so much more relaxed in my opinion: gates only close about 45 minutes before the train departs, so that you don't have to wait at the station for hours before your train departs, you only have to check in and go through customs once, and once you get out of the Eurostar, you're in the middle of a city!
Love these race videos. Given the difference in time (not much) I'd take the train over flying for this particular route. Much less hassle, views along the way. Choose Standard Premier instead of Business - same seat in both, but SP is much less expensive.
Well done guys, you have done London to Paris, London to Edinburgh, London to Amsterdam and London to Brussels now. But I still think that you could reasonably do 2 or 3 more like that which would obviously be good races to see. The 3 I had in mind would all leave from London but go to 3 other European countries within reach. 1) Germany (Frankfurt, Munich or Berlin - you choose the city you feel would be best for a race) 2) Italy (Milan, Rome or Naples) 3) Switzerland (Zurich). You can obviously space them out like a month apart or whatever. But I think they would be right up your street and given that you are both such great European citizens I am sure that you would thoroughly enjoy the races and visiting the different nations and their cultures. I apologise if I seemed too pushy, after all it's really just a suggestion. Sorry, guys.😳

You guys need to talk about the carbon cost of each option, the train would've been so much more beneficial for the environment!
Train is better for the planet and by I think 10 journeys equivalent
Why don’t you think about that when you do anything like buying food and driving your car. Bollocks to Carbon cost
And you need to talk about how fucking expensive the Eurostar is compared to flying.
@@mstrmren about 40 euro's cheapest option if you book way in advance
@@ov_079 you can get some flights if you book in advance on a budget airline for like 25 pounds
Delighted I stumbled across your channel. Really enjoyable. Now I'll have watch all your content! Nice, respectful lads doing fun, informative stuff. Best wishes to you both from Ireland. Stay Classy.
Omg it’s the Eternally Travelling Comedy Duo aka Liam and Nicky! Happy to see a racing video again! 👏🏽
And we’re waiting for you in Japan! I recommend to fly ANA or JAL as the service is impeccable.
Awesome thanks lads I be trying new direct route in September can’t wait
Another great vid, great to see more and more posts on the channel, cant wait for more!
I just want to know how KLM compares to other airlines which serve in the same areas?
If you mean London - Amsterdam, it's really all the same, nothing overly impressive and (at least out of LHR) delays, I spent two weeks bouncing around Europe and the UK and yeah, the train is the way to go at least to the 3 hour flight boundary.
@@lvthud ok thanks!
Try BA CityFlyer from LCY-RTM, the great alternative to the madness that is Schiphol at the moment!
For Short distance flight it’s not worth it to fly with those expensive airlines (Lufthansa, British airways, klm) since the services is the same as with easyJet it eurowings. If you fly long distance it’s better to fly with them
Brilliant presenting duo. Quite surprised the plane won actually - would have thought the train would always be quicker.
The costs are in the description
Always fun watching you boys race. Very informative, yet entertaining. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for this one. Coming to Europe to visit and will be going to Amsterdam. Didn't think about the train however now to check prices
Most wholesome race series on TH-cam :)
Love these types of video, well done again guys.
Wow! the 15 minutes dont count if the service on the eurostar is that comfortable!
Considering the Business Premier checkin and security makes a huge time saving, it's not 100% a like for like comparison to an economy class ticket on KLM. I would love to see the comparison with a bog-standard eurostar ticket with the huge queues mentioned :)
There's no time saving because the train leaves at the same time either way though, doesn't it?
@@septology but you have to get to the station a lot earlier with a standard ticket then a business premier ticket, and business premier is crazy expensive
@@septology Re-think your comment the next time you're missing a train or flight because you're stuck in some crazy queue.
@@Skilianol not really. He spent time in the lounge. With a regular ticket, sure the line would have been there but no more than 20 mins or so and the train would have left the same time obviously! Just no time in the lounge
So plane is an hour quicker this time 🙂
I would definitely go for the plane. More comfortable, faster and beautiful views from above!
Points guy so helpful giving me cheap and extra choices to get on holiday!
You guys are the best. Your channel deserve a 1 million subscribers
You do the best British races
Next time London - Rotterdam, that could be an even closer call! Hi-speed train from Schiphol to Rotterdam Central is 25 minutes, but there is also a metro/bus to Rotterdam airport (a bit more than 20 minutes). From Rotterdam Airport there is a connection with London City as well
and on London - Brussels the train wins hands down!
Thanks for this vlog. Great presentation. Happy weekend! Stay safe. Ciao.
well done guys, the UK YT is 10x better than its US conterpart. keep it up, great content
The plane geek and train geek venom diagram is a perfect circle
Most interesting - the train is my preferred mode of travel. I’d like to see less of the race aspect and see how the two compare in natural time. I doubt I could , in fact I know could not, run from Centraal to Dam Square.
Haha wooo! I was rooting for Liam!
It definitely needs to be said that a standard Eurostar ticket is definitely cheaper most of the time and can be found for £39 a lot
Love that you pressed the green button on the review thing.
Least dramatic? What do you mean?
Didn't mean that as an insult. Just there's less "oooh, security lines, checked bags, will I make it my gate halfway across the airport.. come on board faster, will the weather or ATC hold us and delay, will there be an opened gate upon landing. . Hurry hurry move faster and get off... is there public transport and is it running?"
Mind you... I have millions of flight miles (14 flights scheduled in the next 7 weeks). The train route just seemed mostly "drama free."
@@xnyrage Ohh, I see! I prefer the train as well. Even though delays happen and you can miss your connection, I just couldn't deal with the hassle of just sitting around for hours and then being cramped in such a small space 😅
Also, the train is much more environmentally friendly so that's why I prefer it too ☺️
Yup... see... less "drama." I love a quality train system. And I love nothing more than actually stepping onto a plane. I would love to have this choice documented in this video.
The convenience and the lack of stress for the trains is worth the delay.
Let's be honest, if you take any other London airport apart from City, the train would win every time.
Hi points guy I’m I'm Youssef hazem i’m a huge fan of your videos and I’m a huge fan of Nicky kelvin, jean, Daniel Ross and also Liam you guys are like my biggest TH-camrs and I watch your videos everyday and thank you for the support and effort you guys are putting through btw I’m from Alexandria Egypt
A classic Top Gear race!
Awesome video, honestly I rather take the train as I never flew in my life
Omggg wowwwww 🤩🤩 I agreeeee🤩🤩🤩 next time go to Japan 🇯🇵 🤩🤩 Can’t wait to see it 🥰🥰
The edit! Excellent as always. culminating in 13:35. Loved it .
Nicky, we will not mind if you geek out over the sexy Eurostar Train.
Next time y'all's are in the states, you should do a train vs plane between Miami and Orlando once Brightline starts service between the two. The flight takes approx 1 hr & 15 minutes while the train (which is a diesel powered Siemens trainset similar to Austria's Railjet) is expected to take around 3 hours.
I really enjoy these races! The eurotrain looks incredible and is a great alternative to flying.
It isnt if you try to book ot and find out how much it costs to a plane ticket and how uncomfortable it is in Standard class (where the prices are still double the price for a plane ticket).
15 minuts but a lot cleaner transport.. trains are so underrated
Train is definitely less stressful & the airport is more of a wild card for delays!
Did a weekend London with my grandson a few years back , flew from Rotterdam to city and back with BA , was great .
Three major European cities. You forgot Brussels. I love trains, thank for vlog guys.
Just love these races. So much fun. 2-1 to Liam.
Congrats Liam, better luck next time Nicky. I gather Nicky had to pick up the tab at the "coffee house" ? lol. You guys have the best music in your videos. Stay safe in your travels.
Very funny to watch! Thank you :-) But great to see what Eurostar offers Passengers in Business Premier!
A fairer comparison would have been going from LHR, Liam would have been done for. I've raced my wife before, pre Covid and the train was 20 minutes ahead. I know who was more comfortable 🤣
Eurostar are adding an additional service to Rotterdam and Amsterdam which will depart St Pancras at around 6.15am. I'm not sure when this additional service will commence.
September 5th
@@pcvanz Thank's I will dare that in mind, as I am going over to the Netherlands in September.
Love the races, keep em coming!!!!
Editing on point guys - both routes have merits. Looking forward to the next race. Stay well and positive : - ) xxx
I also wondered what Josh Buttler did in his spare time. Great race!
I rather fly trains are boring
Congratulations Liam. 👏🏻
I like your racing videos much better than other videos .... Try do videos on racing it's better Nicky and Liam
Love these race videos. Given the difference in time (not much) I'd take the train over flying for this particular route. Much less hassle, views along the way. Choose Standard Premier instead of Business - same seat in both, but SP is much less expensive.
omg I was waiting for this for so long😭😭😭😭
would have been more interesting / relevant if you travelled normal class on Eurostar and from a regular airport (i.e. not LCY)
Eurostar looks cool, never been on it as it doesn't make much sense unless you live in London but on the bucket list.
Americans: This is one long escalator
Brits : This the one lOng BLOODY escalator🧐
7:28 KLM almost always give something to drink and eat on their flights for free! I always love flying with KLM!
Well done guys, you have done London to Paris,
London to Edinburgh,
London to Amsterdam and
London to Brussels now.
But I still think that you could reasonably do 2 or 3 more like that which would obviously be good races to see.
The 3 I had in mind would all leave from London but go to 3 other European countries within reach.
1) Germany (Frankfurt, Munich or Berlin - you choose the city you feel would be best for a race)
2) Italy (Milan, Rome or Naples)
3) Switzerland (Zurich).
Interesting comparison & great info. Thank you! If I’ve time, I’ll opt for the train. Less confined n great meals!
