Hot take I actually liked the amount of figures this game produced even now it gives the game more meaning because of how much work you have to do to get it all
Yeah it also makes the game a lot more replayable for me, all these new characters I could play as. One of the most fun things about Skylanders is getting a new one and trying him out
Random dump of comments: 1:02 - I mean from an engine perspective, yes Trap Team did revert back to what the previous games did, but also this was moreso a result of it being developed concurrently with swap force, and it brought its own set of new content (which also doesn't return in later games such as trinkets, doom challenge and most notably the trappable villains not being recreated in vv's gameplay engine for superchargers likely due to time constraints) 1:08 - And Trap Team doesn't? Sure a lot of NPCs from SSA and Giants return in Trap Team too but theres a lot of brand new npcs in that game too. Also a bunch of legacy NPCs would not make sense in the story of Swap Force as Flynn is on vacation to the Cloudbreak(er) Isles. If this an argument trying to push the narrative that Swap Force "replaced all the legacy NPCs" then which specific characters are you talking about because the only notable characters who appeared in both SSA and Giants (with a major-ish role) to not appear in Swap Force are Cali, Persephone and Auric, being "replaced" by Tessa, Gorm and Tuk respectively. Also the lack of legacy NPCs could also be explained by TFB not liking other studios using their characters often for major Skylanders releases (which in turn is likely why they don't reference other studios' games unlike VV which did) 1:11 - I agree that Swap Force having longer levels would divide the fanbase, but there are certain Trap Team levels which take nearly just as long as the average Swap Force level (Skyhighlands I've been told) and there are no checkpoints. Certain levels also go in the complete opposite direction and end up being too short too. 1:12 - Some TFB devs were dissapointed at the addtion of a jump button as they wanted the games to remain dungeon crawlers, but to appeal to a more general audience (and the kids going "waaaaa why cant i jump") 1:16 - I agree whole-heartedly with this, and I understand why it turned certain fans off but in my opinion a game series SHOULD have variety in entries (look at pokemon lmfao) 1:21 - Swap Force did not kill the franchise simply because trap team sold marginally worse, a series can't just keep growing in sales figures every year. The dip in sales was most likely due to more toys-to-life competitors hitting the scene, the wii becoming less popular (the wii was what most people played Skylanders on), people just not wanting to buy a super expensive game every year or just less people buying a game for no specific reason. If you want to use sales statistics Trap Team would've killed the franchise as superchargers had the lowest drop in sales between games. 1:25 - Glad you can admit that lol 1:28 - Yeah these two games were massive changes from SSA and Giants in nearly every single way. 1:30 - This is not an intentional thing and was most likely due to sg and stt having the same dev team and being on the same gameplay engine 1:38 - Yes this game was more difficult, but unlike Giants it is super unfair and your experience can become super easy by abusing villain switching (this games main mechanic) 1:48 - Hugo is only present in the opening cutscene of Trap Team (with a single voiceline none-the-less) and the ending cutscene in the background, hugo got similar treatment in Giants and Swap Force (and Imaginators if you want to count his short screentime) 1:51 - I 100% agree with this and both Skylanders fans and Non-Skylanders fans would agree. Trap Team is a game specifically for Skylanders fans, which is good in the way that it appeals to people already super invested in the series (do NOT play stt as your first skylanders game unless you're a little kid) but makes it less appealing to a general audience (as they would notice the flaws more, eg: SquareEyedJack) 1:58 - The artstyle is still somewhat kept as well but its moreso a mixture of it and sg (and I personally dont like the stt artstyle) 2:06 - Idk why you're mentioning this, SSA/SG aren't platformers lmfao, I enjoy the jump button but it also has its drawbacks too but this isn't really relevant to say 2:30 - Yeah but this and the Trap Master requirement are just straight up unacceptable, you need TWENTY FOUR figures to 100% this game 5:06 - Neither did Trap Team either half of the light/dark cast was completely useless in the base game 5:44 - I agree with the new roster being fun, but the ssa/giants/ssf characters have been hit with nerfs too 5:48 - Gameplay-wise I actually think this game controls the worst, not thats its bad but it feels super janky to play (example: flying characters) and movement speed is so slower for no reason 5:50 - Hell no. As I've already mentioned the gameplay feels way jankier and the characters are more unbalanced, this was most likely as they just slapped a jump button onto giants and removed a lot of the momentum stuff. 5:52 - Ehhh arguably early SSA was higher quality 6:55 - I agree with this, the roster is the biggest and really fun, whilst some core Skylanders kind of feel like wish versions of ssa/sg skylanders its usually pretty good 7:14 - As you should it's probably the game's biggest flaw (i know you were talking about current-day prices but 24 figures needed is agregious) 8:40 - Yeah this was a good idea, imo the villain roster of Superchargers was so good and Imaginators gave us the villains actually good movesets (kind of wish they used villains from multiple different games but I guess they exclusively used Trap Team villains due to some TFB devs having a vendetta against non TFB creations and also probably to reuse animations and models) 10:28 - I mean if you ignore all of its problems then yeah but you didnt cover any of the problems besides pricing 11:04 - Yeah because if you're a kid you usually see any game you play with rose tinted glasses, the glitches are one part of the game which downplays it for me, along with the stock music, jankyness, high completion requirements, half the levels being shit/mediocre imo, the villain segments feeling forced a lot of the time, most villains being super unbalanced next to eachother (not really giving you a reason to play as the not-strongest villains), level design becoming more linear, the game being the second most unbalanced game in the series) and the backtracking Don't get me wrong, Trap Team is a really great game and I love it a lot, and this nitpick of a video probably didn't fully put across the severity of some of the problems the game has but I fully do not believe this game deserves to be the community favorite (especially when a game which pays respect to even more of the series than stt did, has tons of quality of life improvements, has an actually good checkpoint system, is the most consumer friendly game, has tons of variety in the gameplay and has the biggest total roster without big nerfs is the 2nd most hated game in the series) when Giants (a game with barely any flaws which improves on the first in nearly every way with excellent level design which is super user friendly) and Swap Force (the most content packed game in the series) exist and most of the game's problems were made worse (and more critiqued) in Imaginators (which is a good game btw its overhated) My rankings of the games are: Giants Superchargers Spyro's Adventure Swap Force Spyro's Adventure 3DS/Swap Force 3DS (tied for me) Trap Team Superchargers Racing Trap Team 3DS Cloud Patrol Lost Islands Battlegrounds Giants 3DS Imaginators Ring of Heroes (the only one I dislike)
Even though trap team is one second least favorite of the bunch. I still like a lot of the stuff they did. I admired a lot of the small things trap team did. Legendary items would be placed on the hub to give a sense of progression. Mini's having an area in the hub only they can access. An Tower defence mode??! The thing that really pushed me back by this game is how useless old figures and cores felt, especially with elemental gates. Also the sheer amount of figures this game produced was a tad bit much, considering they had the least variants of the series. I see forward to superchargers next year!
Happy birthday to STT! And yeah, I do agree about the dark and light elements needing more attention than just being out there! Which is why I made up my own idea of a Skylanders spin off that gives the two elements some *spotlight* (no pun intended)
I think it would've been to cool to use the trap masters to capture villains instead of having to buy traps, like maybe you could use their weapons after defeating a villain to capture them inside their weapon. After that you could bring their weapon to the villain vault in the hub world to be able to play as the villains. But maybe my takes are just terrible, idk.
I personally am getting back into Trap Team and ZI have underappreciated this game for a long long time. I also realized its my least collected game out of all of them. I will soon get one that spending grind once I find the correct offers.
Trap Team really screams nostalgia this game was really hype back then Being able to capture and play as villains was a Fantastic idea and playing as Kaos for the very first time was like a dream come true and I was super excited when I heard we were getting two new elements This game had some bugs here and there but other then that this game was pretty memorable.
I was 16 in 2014 and had little interest in console gaming as I never owned a console until I grew up, but the idea of toys-to-life has been filed away in my mind to revisit someday Now I'm 26, this year I buy a nintendo Switch and find out there are skydanders out there. I play it and realize that I love it. Did a 16 year old girl 10 years ago believe she would be buying action figures to play the game? Of course not, but I have no regrets!
Trap team is not my favourite Skylander Game but still amazing, the roaster, the villains, the levels and amazing boss battles like Chef Pepper Jack, Wolfgang, Golden Queen and Kaos. It´s incredible and fun today
I don't care about the prices. I hate seeing people complain about that with skylanders, especially this skylanders game. I just love this game, it was my first skylanders game and it's so dang cool. My opinion, people should expect to spend lots of money for skylanders, it's SKYLANDERS, a game where you collect toys. This was just my opinion. The trap masters are amazing, the story is lovely, and it's amazing. I don't care about what other people say like they hate this game or if it's too expensive, I don't care, this game is amazing, and it's my favorite game of the franchise.
Feels like yesterday i was game game(british game store) and me and my brother got to choose a game each but we both wnated skylanders but bc kf the price we got it trap team to share

Trap Team is peak Skylanders. The talking portal and the crystal villains really epitomized the concept of toys-to-life

Shoutout to trap team for introducing my favorite Skylander, Bat Spin 🦇 ❤
Bought the game today for PS4. I already have all the cores except Spotlight and Blackout. I only need some of the Trap Masters now.
