I don't use the term "low carb" or "high fat" anymore because these imply there is some specific set threshold that is correct. I just eat a primarily protein and fat based diet with above ground veggies if I feel like it. This isn't a "low carb/high fat" diet. It's just nutrient dense, natural and nourishing food.

@@Carnivorefitness2024 Right, but most people seem to confuse blood glucose and carbohydrates. Blood glucose is necessary for life, carbohydrates are not. Thomas DeLauer, last I heard, had followed a low carb ketogenic diet for many years. I find it hard to believe he said the brain prefers carbs. More than likely he was talking about blood glucose. There's further debate about whether the brain prefers carbs or ketones, but the fact is that it always requires at least some glucose, whereas it can get by without ketones. What it can't do is use primarily fats. So diet really determines whether the body is getting the glucose exogenously and storing it with insulin, or whether it's producing glucose and ketones endogenously with glucagon.

Great points! It's so true about the diet assumptions. This is why doctors tell people that fat is bad for you, because they think everyone will load up on saturated fats, and won't be able to consume enough healthy fats, and in their defense it can be difficult if the client isn't educated on monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and their benefits to our cellular makeup. It's also possible that some of the doctors don't know themselves. Let's face it doctors don't know everything and are often very specialized.

    • @Studio51media
      @Studio51media 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Look into “seed oils”… most are polyunsaturated… seed oils are not really dietary in nature. Mankind has not had anything like “corn oil” or soybean oil, etc. up until the last 100+ years… and since they have replaced natural saturated fats, all the hardcore metabolic, “diseases” have exploded! [ I won’t run off the list, I assume you know what diseases we are talking about here] olive oil is NOT a seed oil [and has been around a LONG time] it’s also “monounsaturated”… and MUCH better for you if you do not HEAT it! Where as, cooking [frying] with seed oils is arguably [long haul] toxic as hell.
Sugar, [carbs] are NOT essential [to be EATEN] [glucose IS necessary… but the body prefers to make it, it’s self]. So he is absolutely correct on this point.
“saturated fats” ARE where we are supposed to get the bulk of our energy. and are essential, along with proteins [and all the amino acids] again, essential. Almost none of these essential nutrients are created by our bodies and must be eaten to survive.
A little common sense here… What has changed? What has stayed the same? Think about it… don’t just believe what you’ve been told your whole life, you may find what “they” told you wasn’t exactly true? You may find that greed and agendas fed you full blown lies!

I’m someone that has more practical experience in the matter of low carb diets and ketogenic diets. I followed the ultimate and purest form of keto diet on the planet, which is extended fasting for 2.5 days a week every week for the past 2 years fairly consistently. I also did omad, and shorter form of intermittent fasting regularly. On top of that, 2 years ago I was a full on diabetic with high blood pressure. Within 6 months of my new routine, my a1c was lower than my diabetes specialist doctors and I had to drop all blood pressure meds because I was constantly in danger of blacking out after getting out of bed. There is no purer form of keto diet than extended fasting. Because even on the carnivore diet, the body can very easily convert protein into glucose as needed. The main reason people even lose weight on carnivore diet is because of how boring it is and the lack of choice leads to people naturally eating less.
With that said, this video is correct that you can get by without carbs because the body can make carbs from fats and proteins. The trade off being you are weaker and less able to perform physical activity. Another negative side affect is how fasting impacts sleep. On days that I do the extended fasts, I will be grateful to get 6h of sleep at best. It’s more often 5h or in worst case 2h of sleep.
So careful when you say the body doesn’t need carbs. Maybe it doesn’t, but the negatives are very hard to deal with. The impact on sleep alone is a deal breaker for me, and often times I will break a fast rather than deal with shit 2h sleep. Yes I heard all the stuff about vitamins and minerals and generally take it. But how much?? Do I need to take 10mg of vitamins just to get some sleep while fasting? Yeah, sounds like nonsense and marketing to sell vitamin overpriced bullshat.
Fasting and keto diets and ultra low carb diets can be beneficial to the right people, for example diabetics and those that are obese. For normal people or those overweight, I would try to eat more balanced meals. Yes, processed carbs aren’t that great; things like bread and white rice, you’re better off staying away from. But saying all carbs are bad is the lazy answer. Nowadays I eat a good mix of foods. I eat a bowl of oats in the morning, with banana, and blue berries. And I will also have some protein like eggs or even a balogna sandwich. Yes with white bread. Like I said earlier, these things should be personalized for the individual. You can’t give the same nutrition advice to a diabetic as to someone who is active and running marathons (like me)

The first is that I am usually in a very low state of ketosis in the morning. Somewhere in the "trace" ranges of like 0.5ish, but as I usually don't eat until 2pm, I'll be in the 3 range by then. UNLESS....the second issue is that I cannot seem to stay in any sort of elevated state of ketosis during my menstrual cycle. Getting there and staying there requires me to fast or fat fast through it. Protein (even 40ish grams per day) will knock me out as does any amount of carbs - even olives or avocado. Thoughts on that? It's very frustrating.

Well, most vegetables do not contain any significant amount of carbs.
Meanwhile, YOU are the one who suggests that it is completely fine to live on "French fries, whiskey and cigarettes".
How about treating the topic with some seriousness, instead of trolling?

@@martinfiedler4317 I already eat a very moderate carb diet, and virtually no refined carbs ever....I follow a natural food approach, and also follow the principle of Glycemic LOAD (which is more useful than following the "glycemic index")......
As modern humans, most people simply aren't active enough to need a huge amount of ANY carbs....our ancestors were physically active 10 hours a day...I've done farm work, so I know first hand how this changes your body and the way it handles what you eat (both calorically and hormonally).....

I'm a Type 2 diabetic. I had an HbA1C of 7.5 when I was diagnosed. My last HbA1C result was 4.6 as were the several before that. I see so many videos on TH-cam spruiking low carb, ketogenic or carnivore diets to control diabetes and I just cannot see how these types of diets will be healthy in the long term. I followed the advice of Dr John McDougall and Mastering Diabetes TH-cam channels and read their books. I didn't get my results instantly but over the course of a year, I was taken off a daily 1000mgs of Metformin and 6 Blood Pressure pills a day. Eating a super low fat, whole unprocessed plant foods, devoid of all oils and animal products helped me do this. I eat mostly starches like potatoes, brown rice, oats and fruits (except avocado and coconut as these are high fat fruits). I make sure I have at least a plate of vegetables a day with legumes mixed in and some leafy greens every day as well. I also lost 50 Kg's eating this way and have kept the weight off. At the end of the day, each to their own but this way of eating doesn't come with other issues like high cholesterol levels. Some will argue that high cholesterol is a good thing but the long term evidence suggests otherwise.

    The brain does need carbs.
But the honest question should be: since we can make carbs out of fatty acids, do we need to eat them (the carbs)?

My fasting blood sugars were high when I was on the Keto/low carb diet, which I had been on for 3 years. I was pre- diabetic. My DR assumed i was eating too much sugar, when I wasn't consuming any, peas and carrots had too much sugar, that's how strict I was. It then dawned on me that my liver was producing glucose to keep myself from becoming hypoglycemic. I've been off keto for nearly two years and feel tired and sluggish, its a struggle to get off sugar now as friends and family all thought I should eat carbs to look " healthy" again. I should never have stopped keto.

Fasting blood sugar can be a misleading marker for many eating a ketogenic. Many find more helpful information from following their blood sugar throughout the day with a CGM. Here's a guide that may help. www.dietdoctor.com/blood-sugar/cgm

You are not metabolic healthy. Try carnivore awhile, then have some fermented food (sauerkraut, kefir...) and then small portions of dried fruit, so you don't have to eat a whole big fruit with quick sugary fluid,. To only gradually getting used to sugars again. I did that after beeing at a hospital for many weeks with a lot of seed oils in the meals that destroyed my microbiome. After four years I now can eat everything natural and drink Coke, no gained weight etc.

@@metabolicmind Thanks. I've forgotten about this pathway, however I've been aware about odd chain fatty acids for some time. But the point is, that human body stores these fats only in liver, and takes it from mainly ruminant animals (milk, liver, muscle and fat). But in ruminants as little as 5% of all fatty acids are in form of odd chain. This sums up to 1 gram of these fats a day. That means that this is so minute scale that this process has very little so neglible effect on glucose production....

The brain, red cells and most cells need glucose BUT blood sugar definitely does not rely on carbohydrate intake.
Being a T2D I am on a low carbohydrate diet around 20 g per day over the last 7 years with 16/8 or omad, I regularly have a morning blood sugar between 85 and 110 but a normal Hb1aC. Being resistant to metformin, I normalised my diabetes within a few weeks and went on to lose 30kg without ever feeling hypoglycaemia which is the case when my insulin levels rise after taking carbohydrates.
Not only the normal blood sugar is not dependent on eating carbohydrates, but it is experimentally established that the brain resists insulin induced hypoglycaemia if in a state of ketosis.
Nor do blood fats depend on fat intake, as with a low carbohydrate diet my triglycerides are sub normal.
