Simply outstanding film and simply outstanding piece of music. Layer Cake is one of the best British films ever made and it's hard to think of a more emotive piece of music. Absolute brilliance.
This is the original version; it was produced for the film 'Layer Cake', which you should watch if you're unfamiliar with it, because it's quite simply excellent.
"The art of good business is being a good middle man. Putting people together. I'll always thank Eddie for telling me that. It's all about honor and respect."
"You're born, you take shit. Get out in the world, you take more shit. Climb a little higher, take less shit. Until one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere, and you've forgotten what shit even looks like. Welcome to the Layer Cake son." For those having trouble hearing.
Sometimes when I'm having one of those crap days at the job....I just listen to this on my ear phones. Her voice takes me to another place. Thanks you for the video.
Paul the Boatman. Kinky. The Duke. Slasher. Kilburn Jerry, Crazy Larry. Mr Lucky. Troop. Jimmy. I don't want to add my name to that list. My name? If you knew that, you'd be as clever as me.
Her voice is the only voice that sends a chill down my spine and makes my hair on the back of my neck stand up. I also love the intro. It's so true on how life works.
Cremator Contralto A Siren is a mythical creature from Greek mythology. It is said there voice was so enchanting that no man could ignore it. Sirens sadly lured men to them with there voice and killed them.
It's actually from the movie "Layer Cake" w/ Daniel Craig - he's explaining "the facts of life": that society is like a layer cake... and the higher you climb in society, the less shit you have to take.
Rip Micheal Gambon you made layer cake the film it is today as eddie temple what a character he was. Got to be one of the best films I’ve ever watched love d, Craig and Colin summat or other one in Alan partridge alpha papa pat I believe was callled anyway rip to a true legend 😢
Lisa is absolutely awesome she has done a lot of work on film soundtracks. One of the most beautiful voices ever. One of my goals is to see her in concert sometime :)
Spot on. Great film (IMHO one of the best British crime films ever - hugely underrated) - and this music is such a brilliant contrast with the deep violence and corruption in the movie.
I have the layer cake speech as a ring tone. we were in psychology class discussing the different divisions of society and my phone rang. Basically this is the best explanation of life.
Absolutely breathtaking piece of music. Lisa Gerrard is a true genius with an enchanting and deeply haunting voice. Her music is sad, inspiring and very spiritual. Repect.
I've loved Lisa Gerrard's music since way back when she was in the band 'Dead Can Dance' in the 80's-90's. Breathtaking music with that band and her beautiful voice. If you've never heard of Dead Can Dance, you might like to check them out.
Don;t know if this has already been answered but I have the CD and his voice-over is still in it. Still, I think it lends itself to the song - it sets the tone on a somber note, a sort of acknowledgment of the sheer futility of unbridled ambition.
First time I noticed Lisa Gerrard's voice was in Gladiator. I have heard her before, but I was never able to find out who the artist was, but when Now We Are Free came out. It opened a door to music I never new existed. I am a fan for life.
Love this song. For me, it's one of those rare songs you get caught up in and sort of feel sad knowing it has to end. "Host of Seraphim" by Lisa Gerrard is another that's just as powerful.
TH-cam made me discover Lisa Gerrard. I went to her concert in Antwerp on november 13 and was perplexed. She enslaved me : can't stop listening to that haunting voice. Nice video also!
When you hear this voice, you feel and know that there is a spark of divinity in humankind. It is as if the Father is singing right through her. Amazing
La sua voce ti raccoglie dal profondo e pian piano ti avvolge, ti circonda, ti prende e riesce a trasportarti "oltre" .."dentro"...dove puoi vedere ad occhi chiusi...
Michael Gambon's speech at the start add's to the run up of this song and the swearing is said in the right context, both are just as hunting and as powerful on there own, together they are outstanding.
i heard this track while watching Top Gear's review of the Alfa Romeo 8c and the look of that car with Lisa Gerrard's voice was just epic...but i degress, great vid and amazing track
the depth and otherworldly beauty of this song feels out of place in the facile, superficial, vacuous world layer cake presents. And I think that's the point. It's not within the film, it doesn't exist in that world, but it frames our reaction to it, it provoke emotions about it that the world doesn't warrant, like everyone chasing empty status, success and wealth in that world.
Oh my god. Thanks a lot, I've been trying to work out what this song is... i heard it of course at the end of layer cake, it's so haunting. Nearly moved me to tears. She has an unearthly voice.
there´re a lot of singers who make feel..like....like another lifes...like lisa, sarah Bgtmn...and a lot of that kind of magical voices :) thanks for exist Lisa Gerrard :) Emily from Argentina.
Rest in peace Micheal Gambon one of the most inspirational speeches I’ve ever heard. Thank you for all the movies that you starred in over many years.
Legend of a man.
Couldn’t agree anymore ❤️
Respect 🤜🤛
He's dead never knew godspeed my brother
Very true
Simply outstanding film and simply outstanding piece of music.
Layer Cake is one of the best British films ever made and it's hard to think of a more emotive piece of music.
Absolute brilliance.
The movie is a diamond, the soundtrack makes it a polished diamond
.....couldn’t say it better, fella....
Lisa Gerrard arias are just blissful 👌🏼
Still one Britain’s best produced films...it has everything. Cast, script, plot, music score!
Well said 1 of the most true things an smart comment s I've heard an im34
Watched layer cake easy 6 /7 times and will 6/ 7 more
Agreed. Not often I agree with clowns on youtube. But you get it bro.
This is the original version; it was produced for the film 'Layer Cake', which you should watch if you're unfamiliar with it, because it's quite simply excellent.
Emmanuel Goldstein the book it’s based on is quite good too, even if it is more of a pulp fiction
"The art of good business is being a good middle man. Putting people together. I'll always thank Eddie for telling me that. It's all about honor and respect."
Did I really believe Eddie was gonna give me 3 million for those pills ?
........ did I F*ck !!!
I agree, a picturesque image of London a homage to it’s past, and a precursor to how it looks today.
When you've lived that life since you were released from Youth Custody, it means something, that the average Joe won't understand in a million years.
Simply a masterpiece from all aspects, acting, story an music
Epic film, and the soundtrack absolutely transcends generations.
I've heard some music in my time but nothing as powerful & moving as this .. lisa Gerrard's voice blow's me away .
she did crazy good with the Gladiator soundtrack too i thought
"Vespers" and "of love undone" are imo her greatest tracks
Why can’t I buy this song anywhere
Lisa Gerrard sounds like a angel and she holds her notes very well
This song and film are epic…massively underrated
One day, we'll never take shit my son!
This song introduced me to Lisa Gerrard and this type of music. Thank you, it's beautiful!!
Also try Clannad
Welcome to the layer cake girl ☺️
Some of the most beautiful, ethereal music ever made!!! Ahhh.... it takes you to another time and place.....
I could listen to this forever!!Want this played at my funeral!
"You're born, you take shit.
Get out in the world, you take more shit.
Climb a little higher, take less shit.
Until one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere, and you've forgotten what shit even looks like.
Welcome to the Layer Cake son."
For those having trouble hearing.
I know it's brilliant
Happy New year fellow layer cake eater
Thanks!
That is so true!!
Thanks! Greeting from Chile...
Love this movie ! Can relate to this in so many ways 😉. Beautiful sound track will never forget when this film was released ❤
The most hauntingly beautiful track I've ever heard. I've never heard a voice as majestic and flawless.
Yeah Lisa gerrard’s voice is pretty majestic too.
Try "Vespers" and "of love undone " imo her greatest ever tracks
One of the best pieces of music ever...
Sounds as haunting and as beautiful now as it did back then. Stunning sound.
My name? If you knew that, you'd be as clever as me.
he just says Duke, not "the duke" :P
Bang

@@simul8rduude no... XXXX does, actually, say the duke.
Poor Paul the boatman didn't deserve that iron
Her voice is the only voice that sends a chill down my spine and makes my hair on the back of my neck stand up. I also love the intro. It's so true on how life works.
+RunnerGunner If it was possible to demonstrate what a siren would sound like, Lisa Gerrard is the perfect example.
+RunnerGunner When the Seraph start to sing it's a wonder to hear.:-)
Cremator Contralto A Siren is a mythical creature from Greek mythology. It is said there voice was so enchanting that no man could ignore it. Sirens sadly lured men to them with there voice and killed them.
pff voice , wat about the real
RunnerGunner Ulysses had himself lashed to the ship's mast so he could hear their song without falling prey to their enchantment and dying.
It's actually from the movie "Layer Cake" w/ Daniel Craig - he's explaining "the facts of life": that society is like a layer cake... and the higher you climb in society, the less shit you have to take.
Outstanding music, outstanding film, perfectly cast. All Lisa's work makes you contemplate life.
That's deep dude
turn the lights off and i can listen to this for ages, so haunting and beautiful at the same time , well done lisa gerrard
My lites are out and this is on! Chill
Rip Micheal Gambon you made layer cake the film it is today as eddie temple what a character he was. Got to be one of the best films I’ve ever watched love d, Craig and Colin summat or other one in Alan partridge alpha papa pat I believe was callled anyway rip to a true legend 😢
Best ending of one of the best movies. So dramatic, ironic and beautiful..and the music.no comment.
Her music helps me to express pain and sadness and take it out.
I started to listen to her resulting " NOW WE ARE FREE" which is amazing song.
Totally agree; 'voice of the earth' - couldn't have put it any better, that describes her sound so well. beautiful
Lisa is absolutely awesome she has done a lot of work on film soundtracks. One of the most beautiful voices ever. One of my goals is to see her in concert sometime :)
Amazingly haunting and uplifting with a subtle sadness.
Fantastic sound lisa is great plus the wise words completely top it off for me top marks
I've been listening this aria for several times, just can't get enough...
This movie is so awesome. The music score, the editing and camera angles, magnificent actors and a breathtaking story. Thanks for the upload, nemtizz!
Spot on.
Great film (IMHO one of the best British crime films ever - hugely underrated) - and this music is such a brilliant contrast with the deep violence and corruption in the movie.

Just found this by chance. Oh how it makes my heart weep.

Bloody love this I could sit and listen to Lisa all day long such a beautiful voice
Was better in gladiator with “Elysium” and “now we are free”
Don;t know if this has already been answered but I have the CD and his voice-over is still in it. Still, I think it lends itself to the song - it sets the tone on a somber note, a sort of acknowledgment of the sheer futility of unbridled ambition.
what is the tune called I am trying to find it everywhere!!!!????
I've looked everywhere, not on Spotify.....
Lisa Gerrard has a voice that simple pierce into your heart... you just just cannot withstand that voice that stirs your innermost self...
this has to be the most majestic song ever , amazing singer , luv it
First time I noticed Lisa Gerrard's voice was in Gladiator. I have heard her before, but I was never able to find out who the artist was, but when Now We Are Free came out. It opened a door to music I never new existed. I am a fan for life.
beautiful music and so brilliantly placed in layer cake
she is my muse !! I long to see her and hear her live.. she sounds like an angel on fire sometimes! :)
Love this song. For me, it's one of those rare songs you get caught up in and sort of feel sad knowing it has to end.
"Host of Seraphim" by Lisa Gerrard is another that's just as powerful.
I just went and listened at your suggestion , and you are correct.
@@kelcato1 10 years after? Wooww! Lol. Host of Seraphim was my entering song in Lisa's world, and it was just a few years ago.
Agreed. It's used in the final scene of the mist. Utterly haunting.
I'm so watching this movie again this weekend :-).
absolut, coś co trudno ująć słowami, piękno doskonałe...Uwielbiam Lise

Rest in peace Michael Gambon. I type this with teary eyes. This piece of music is hauntingly beautiful.
i remember when i wrote this peice of music for the film i never thought it would turn out this well :)
Song always sends the odd chill up my spine. The quote at the start is also very true.
Diese Stimme, - die Art zu singen.. Einfach unbeschreiblich ❤
True she also did songs for gladiator and black hawk down which are excellent too
TH-cam made me discover Lisa Gerrard. I went to her concert in Antwerp on november 13 and was perplexed. She enslaved me : can't stop listening to that haunting voice.
Nice video also!
If only Dumbledore had said this to harry potter
He was saying to Potter

Great movie, even better music and voice
Welcome to the Layer Cake, son.
When you hear this voice, you feel and know that there is a spark of divinity in humankind. It is as if the Father is singing right through her. Amazing
Or the voice of Mother Earth

voice of an angel 👼
Voice of an angel :D
The Angel amongst us...the voice for all.
I have at least 21 songs on my funeral list. I wouldn't get angry if they played this part too.
Lisa is a phenomena ... !!
Her voice.... it haunts me, man. Ethereal. Timeless. I will ALWAYS love the sound of those 'dulcet tones'.
Rip you will never be forgotten
Je l'écoute en boucles, je la regarde sans fin, un pur moment de bonheur !

i heard this track while watching Top Gear's review of the Alfa Romeo 8c and the look of that car with Lisa Gerrard's voice was just epic...but i degress, great vid and amazing track
An absolute masterpiece 👌
One of the most meaningfull songs over, when featured in layercake it brought a new love to my life.. pure essence.
the depth and otherworldly beauty of this song feels out of place in the facile, superficial, vacuous world layer cake presents. And I think that's the point. It's not within the film, it doesn't exist in that world, but it frames our reaction to it, it provoke emotions about it that the world doesn't warrant, like everyone chasing empty status, success and wealth in that world.
I love this piece, soothingly delicious!!
great film ,great song added to my favorites
This song, to me, relates to the feeling men has when seeing how overwhelmingly beautifull nature is, and knows that they can never return to it
Absolutely mate
Wow, this is amazing, her voice is just awesome!!!!!!
Oh my god. Thanks a lot, I've been trying to work out what this song is... i heard it of course at the end of layer cake, it's so haunting. Nearly moved me to tears. She has an unearthly voice.
This song never gets old for me.
simplemente hermoso su voz me transporta a otra dimension
Music and vocals that feed the soul
there´re a lot of singers who make feel..like....like another lifes...like lisa, sarah Bgtmn...and a lot of that kind of magical voices :) thanks for exist Lisa Gerrard :) Emily from Argentina.
For me this is rip 2020 the end of an adventure and something I had to let go even though I loved the last 4.5 years of it.
Lisa Gerrard has the voice of an angle❤
breathtaking.
It acts very beautifully as an overture, or perhaps 'contrapunto' to the stunning 'Ordinary World', by those boys from Brum...
Haunting. Image selection: Impeccable. Your style reminds me of Michael Mann. Well done brother.
Love the speech , life
yeah she is just awesome. I wished I could find this song somewhere to download, its one of my favorite songs of hers I cannot find :(
Je n'ai jamais entendu une voix aussi profonde et merveilleuse .
