    I have an ADN. It was the smartest decision I ever made. I finished my degree and never went in debt. In CA, my ADN has required me to get creative in regards to opening doors but it has never stopped me from anything. I have returned back to school to complete my BSN then MSN . One of the best parts of obtaining the ADN 1st is I am able to easily afford my BSN and not incur additional debt.

      I did the same thing as you Zaida. My workplaces paid for all of my BSN degree and about 60% of my masters degree. I had zero debt when I was completed with all degrees. Of course I obtained my Associates degree in 1985. Carle don't feel pressured to advance if you don't want to, but I do like the options available to me if I change jobs, or even those within my own workplace, because of the additional degrees.

      This is about to be me! My career goal is to become a registered nurse and my local technical college offers CNA, LPN and RN(ADN.) I understand that having a BSN looks more professional and is looked of as “higher value” but if I can become a registered nurse by only playing a few thousand at my local college by getting my ADN. Compared to going to a university and being like 20K+ in debt so be it!

    If you are paying for your schooling or starting from the bottom, it seems like ADN is a win win. You’ll get paid/start working faster, you’ll pay less in student loans, and a hospital could sponsor you for your BSN.

    Just know we take the same exact NCLEX:) so having a BSN doesn’t make you a better nurse. Also, when I went back for my BSN it was literally common sense leadership classes and once I was done all I got was a piece of paper. Never had to retake the NCLEX or anything... so at the end of the day, the BSN is just common sense leadership classes. Also, We have a nursing shortage currently in the MILLIONS and it’s projected to triple by the millions in years to come! ADNs are going NOWHERE!!!!!!!! Best believe it! I honestly think they will start expanding the scope of LPNs because of the nursing crisis we are about to hit within the next 10 years. It’s not a joke.

    • @Pllm30
      @Pllm30 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Nursing shortage is not in the millions, that is grossly exaggerated. ADN's might not be going anywhere, as you state, but States like NY are putting a BSN in 10 plan in place, which means all of their nurses must have a BSN within 10 years of being hired, or something like that. Now this is what you are going to be seeing in the near future as nurses are asking for more money, hospitals will be asking for more credentials.

    • @laurenhills239
      @laurenhills239 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Pllm30 They say that but it will never happen. There are not enough nurses for that to ever happen. The average turnover rate for bedside nursing is less than 5 years. It’s a complete joke and so is the BSN degree.

As an ADN nurse I was charge nurse even Assistant Director of Nursing of a facility. Having been both an ADN and BSN NOTHING has changed but the amount of debt I owe, the letters in my title, and the way employers may or may not pick me over an ADN . Honestly, I agree. I'm in a bachelor's program and it's not worth it. Go to community college or even small nursing institutions. You put up with more B.S. in these big schools and sit for the same boards at the end of the day. If I went to state college my education would have been completely FREE. I did 2 yrs in state college and will be completing my 5th semester in may. I feel in florida it is more neccessary to become a BSN nurse. But you can get it for cheaper at state college BUT it's much longer.

Most hospitals here have excellent tuition reimbursements to get your BSN. Most managers I know would rather have a ADN nurse because we have more clinical experience and knowledge!

  • @prettynurse2
    @prettynurse2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +75

    I was an ADN for a very long time.. I recently did my BSN and applying to grad school to do my NP... and will probably do my doctorate as well.... The main reason and driving force for me continuing my education is that my institution reimburses 100% up to 18 credits a year. I would be a fool to not take advantage of a FREE education. They actually pay you to get a higher degree. I could be a DNP on their dime. I think because of this most of the nurses in my hospital are BSN or higher. Also I think each one encourages the next one to go back to school. The environment is one that encourages nurses to obtain a higher degree. I work in an operating room and we only have one ADN nurse in the whole OR... But just like you and many other nurses/students have said in the comments school is expensive!!! I have children and a home as well.. I would not be obtaining crazy loans for a degree that didn’t benefit me financially either.

    Awesome video and definitely speaking the truth girl. I am currently in the process of choosing between an ADN or BSN. I have a BA already and had been working as an event planner, but decided to switch careers to nursing. For all the reasons you mentioned I'm definitely considering ADN, but getting my CNA and working for a hospital that offers reimbursement has definitely lessoned the blow of money being a factor in choosing a program. One of my co-workers just went from being a CNA on my floor to an RN on my floor with her ADN. So IT IS POSSIBLE Y'ALL! In the short term, ADN vs BSN is really not a big deal as far as job opportunities go! My dilemma is really just about time already spent in school and whether or not I may eventually want to get an MSN. If not for that, I'd be ADN all the way. Wish I knew this info before going to college the first time!

In the ADN program you are doing your pre reqs for your BSN such as (ENG COMP 1 & 2, computer concepts, HGD, etc). Oh and you are obviously taking nursing classes also. Without any student debt, I was able to find an affordable option for the BSN while working fulltime. Once I got my BSN, I explored opportunities that have made the BSN with experience worthwhile. I can assure you, if you go that route, you'll be making more than just one dollar an hour. I left the bedside to make substantially more, and it started with the BSN. I now have my masters and once again increased my pay significantly. I'm headed to my final year of my DNP.program and hope that it pays off financially as well. Just some food for thought.

I thought about getting an ADN, simply because I just got out of the military and I turned 31back in march. I'm thinking about children etc because I do not have any. However, I also thought about long term as well. Since I want to be a CRNA it would be best for me to continue with obtaining my BSN. I'm also thankful that I can use my educational benefits. That was another reason why I chose BSN. I also think what helped me is that I have my associates in Human Services, so I started as a sophomore. So it seem's roughly around the same about of time as ADN. Thank you for this because I surely looked up the salaries in the DFW area between ADN, and BSN.

Yes they would like you to have BSN but they will pay for you to go back to get it. Sis keep spitting out this good content...where the fam at they always pop thru... I feel cheated lol keep the videos coming

    So if you ( need ) to work ASAP then sure this is the best route. A BSN probably would be a preferred hire above a ASN. Also if you want to accelerate to a bigger nursing career position then it’s MANDATORY. Not to mention my girl mentions 2+ dollars increase which is roughly 4,000 dollars a year more. Tell me it’s not worth the extra 10 -15 grand. This girls 8 years would have more than covered it and she would be on a quicker path to a greater career.

    I have a Biology degree and went to a very expensive school thinking I was going to med school. That didn’t happen and I never worked in a place that utilized my degree and I’m in SO much debt. I’m halfway through ADN and I get so mad at myself that I didn’t do this before. Better late than never I guess 🤷🏾‍♀️😏

    I graduated 12/2019 (ADN) and passed NCLEX 04/2020. Debt free. However, I am having trouble finding a job 😕

      Apply to as many jobs as possible. Reach out to friends and family members bc a lot of times people get hired off of a “who you know bases”

    In an ADN program now, I finish in February. The only thing is I wish I would’ve did my BSN just so I wouldn’t have to go back and my ADN is expensive.

    One thing that you cannot do with an ADN is join the military as a nurse. They require the BSN in order to qualify.

    @Carle Rae, thank you for being so positive and informative. I always wanted to get my ADN. I want to become a Labor and Delivery nurse. I look up this information and it doesn’t require much.”Everyone who aspires to become a labor and delivery nurse must undergo a thorough training process in a certified college or university. They are required to pursue at least an associate's or bachelor's degree in nursing to qualify. A nursing diploma from an accredited school is also allowed.” More over, I thought you have to get your BSN to be qualified for that. Wow!😌

    I'm taking massage therapy in a diploma but, for health reasons most only work part-time. I don't have a learning disability but, I have a short attention expand. Especially in science, anatomy and physiology. I have bad fingers from cosmetology school. Deep I want to use my associates degree in the media field. Which is what I've always wanted to do. The internship I was doing close due to staff getting covid. I graduated in 2020. I applied for jobs and made interviews but, I didn't get the offers . Every employer kept saying I had an amazing resume but, students with more experience or a bachelor's degree were picked over me. Television stations in New York and Los Angeles reached out to me. I can't afford to move there. I do want to get in media at some point. Right now I'm focusing on getting a real good job, with a good salary. I'm considering getting an adn in nursing. I graduate from massage therapy school in November 2023.I do want a spa/salon. That's the goal. Even that is going to require making money. I'm worried about passing the classes for nursing school. Media is so different from nursing. I have an interest in holistic wellness. I have to take anatomy and physiology part 1,2,3. It's required in order to graduate from my current school. We just started. We're working on the bones right now. It's not too bad but, it's certainly a challenge. We also have to take kinesiology. We're only going through the part we need to know for massage therapy. We still need to know organs, tissues, nerves,etc. I'm a little worried. I know I can push myself through massage school but, I don't know if I can push myself through an ADN in nursing. I have a CNA license. It's expired. I got certified in 2016. The test was a piece of cake. I live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. At the time I was living in Nebraska when I got my CNA. I tried doing a fast track phlebotomy course. I remembered my order of draws. I pass my skills but, the test to receive my certificate in phlebotomy, I failed. I had a hard time studying for that test. I feel like if I can't pass a phlebotomy test , how will I succeed in nursing school. Any advice? I want to get into cosmetic Lazer, holistic wellness. Becoming an RN would open so many doors. I don't want to set myself up for failure. My anatomy courses can transfer into a community college but, I don't want to be the type of nurse that can't do her job well. Or be an average student. I don't think that's a good thing. What do you think in your honest opinion.

    I’m so glad you made this video I myself have my ADN degree and I get so many inspiring nurses ask me should they go for their BSN instead I stay in Chicago and honestly it doesn’t matter if you have an ADN or BSN it’s based off experience I’m a new grad and was interviewing with another new grad with a BSN for the ER position I have now and was hired!

      Hello if you don’t mind me asking which ADN program did you do? I’m at city colleges doing nursing at Malcolm x was wondering how hard was it to find a job or did you do a residency? Online they all say you must have a BSN to apply

    • @growinggracefully7671
      @growinggracefully7671 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Divinely Guided Yes! I went to Malcolm X loved the program the school is right in the heart of the medical district so we do all of our clinicals there honestly nobody cares about if you have a BSN with the exception of Rush it won’t be hard to find a job and the pay is no different but you gotta network with ppl at your clinical sites and your professors they will vouch for you good luck you got this!!!!

    I really appreciate this information that you have given. Unfortunately, I did not pass the courses to obtain BSN so I’m having to find an alternative route. This video really clarified everything for me. I’ll be taking ADN route and after that BSN and maybe after that NP!!

    Another great video! I’m late watching bcuz I’ve been working so much lately but my bank account is healthy again lol. I wanted to add a CON that a friend of mine realized. She has her ADN and works on a cardiac step-down unit but now she wants to transfer to L&D. She’s didn’t know it required a BSN. So depending on what specialty you may want to go in after awhile may or may not require a BSN (depending on your area of course). I know certain hospitals in LA require BSN for OR nurses. In central FL where I live there is like a $5 pay difference so FL pay for nurses suck anyway! My husband is in school for Rad Tech (Associates’s degree) with specialty in CAT Scan. He’ll be making $10 more than new nurses out the gate😱. In Cali, there is no difference in pay depending on specialty so a lot of nurses have their ADN and making $80/hr (San Francisco area). L.A. area ranges from $45-$55/hr for ADN & BSN. So like you said you must do your homework and know area. But consider your future and where you wanna be later in life and in your nursing career. There many ways to obtain your goals and dreams. What works for one person will not allows work for the next so stop listening to people who don’t know or have little information about a subject. ADN/BSN is an absolute blessing anyone can capitalize on to live very comfortably....but travel nursing is the best tho🤗. (Sorry for the long reply)

    Preach my nursing sista! There's only one health system in my area that requires us to get a BSN within 3 years of hire (and I ain't working for them 🤣). And the pay is exactly what you said. I was an LPN for 3 years before I bridged to the RN (ADN) last year and sis is in her 30's now and had no plans of going back....until I got into my current position that's paying half of my tuition and offers reimbursement. So yup, I just finished my first class (3 weeks) and I have 8 more to go in this RN to BSN. I lived off loans before I had my child and got my hubby, so we don't even wanna talk about how far I am in the hole.

    I got accepted into the TJC 18 month program this coming up Spring, but I had a backup that came through before my acceptance so I'm currently in University of Arkansas online LPN to BSN program. It maybe a little bit cheaper than UT's program, but to get in with no preentrance exam and no time limit on prerequisites is a blessing. If you know any BSN preceptors in East Tx let me know. I will hopefully get to clinicals next year around this time

    New to this Channel! Omg you wouldn’t believe how much this help. I was thrown into the BSN route because no one informed me there was a ADN. I’m not going to lie I was extremely upset seeing that I have killed myself at college getting good grades and the College of Nursing at my University where I need to get my BSN is just denying me entrance. Recently found and decided to assist an accelerated ADN, super happy with the decision and extremely excited.
