"It's a tragic love story. Very tragic. The saddest thing is that he really loves her.". As far I know the song is about mercy killing and it was inspired by a news in a newspaper. It was about men who killed his wife or girlfriend because of terminal/painful illness. I would recommend: Lucky live from Nidarosdomen (and many many more but I restricted myself to one recommendation ;) ).
It Happened Quiet(live version) is also just astounding. Also highly recommend Helvegen by a Norse group called Wardruna. The live version of that song that features Aurora is absolutely entrancing, and the harmonies and general juxtaposition of her voice with the vocalist/writer of Wardruna, his name being Einar, is just haunting.

Yes! Back to Aurora! One of my top five favorite artists to debut in the past decade for sure. I recommend “The Seed” official video, if you haven’t covered it.
So, do you wanna know the story behind the song??? Ok, well first of all, I'm a 51 year old METAL HEAD and I LOVE AURORA. Been a fan for about a year and a half and I really can't say enough about her..... Magical, Transforming, Captivating, Otherworldly, Fairy, Nymph, Mesmerizing....... So, from what I've heard the story is about a husband and wife couple, probably married for a LONG time. The wife has an incurable disease that she had to live with FOR YEARS in tremendous pain. She asked her husband to help her pass, he refused. But, watching the Love of His Life suffer day after day, year after year, he finally helped....... I know when I first heard the song, I was like "wtf"? I mean, I've heard lot's of songs with strange meanings, but I couldn't put a finger on it til I heard this, then it made complete sense..... PLEASE DO MORE AURORA......there is SO much she has. ANYthing from Live in Nidarosdomen.....preferable start with "Eyes of a Child" and then "It Happened Quiet". But, you could literally do every song from that concert.....
Aurora's live performances are otherworldly and first among them is the live December 2017 Nidarosdomen (cathedral) concert televised on NRK Norwegian TV. Through the Eyes of a Child is my favorite, exemplifying the emotional depth she brings to her songs on the stage.
Super nice reaction ! What many people do not realize is that many of Aurora's songs have been used in various movies, TV series and computer games, examples: Runaway - The Following , Biohackers Winter Bird - Equals Murder Song 54321 - The Flash , Detour ,Teenwolf Under stars - Scream , Mass effect andromeda Conqueror - FIFA 2016 Running with the wolves - Teenwolf , Wolfblood, The Flash , Hanna , Blacklist ,Good behavior Midas Touch - Hanna Daydreamer - The bold type Through the eyes of a child - The 100's , Reign , Frequency Queendom - Elite , The bold type Warrior - Riverdale I went too far - Girls Half the world away (Oasis song) - Girls , Man on the moon Chuchyard - Runaways Forgotten Love - Grey's Anatomy Aurora's voice (the north wind) - Frozen 2 . Baby mine - Dumbo , Aurora's version was supposed to be in the movie , but for some reaso it didn't happen The Secret Garden - The Secret Garden
Pretty sure I've heard her in one of the later Alien movies. One where some scientist or something release the aliens on a planet. But can't say Ive ever noticed her in any of the Mass Effect games.
Another very fine, erudite reaction. I am not aware of any other current artist who is able to tell stories through lyrics and convey emotions in performance as powerfully as Aurora does. She is beyond exceptional.
I discovered her about maybe? 2 years ago, watching a session on KEXP live performances Absolutely love her art. My personal favorite is called "Gentle Earthquakes"
Please do more Aurora. Some of my favorites are "Running with the Wolves", "The Seed", "Queendom" and "Cure for Me". She's also done an amazing cover of David Bowie's "Life on Mars"
I can't think of a more both stellar and unique singer than Aurora except perhaps Diana A. Most artists like perhaps fellow Norwegian Angelina may have a unique sound but you can clearly hear influences like perhaps Billy Holiday and Amy Winehouse in Angelina's case. But when it comes to Aurora her sound is totally and absolutely unique. She has a childishness in her vocals and even her appearance and expressions. Even her songwriting seems to come from an innocent childlike wonder of the world. Don't take this to mean that I think there is anything immature about her, nothing could be further from the truth, she is full of wisdom and everything about her art is brilliant.
...and of course this song she wrote for the funeral of a friend who died in a car accident in ~2014. The song was posted on facebook and ended up on youtube: "Why Did You Have To Go?": youtu . be/wrQZFxWA-EQ (the video is fan made and not related to the song)
She’s such an amazing artist! She really takes me to a place that I can’t identify but is so familiar with her voice. She’s gorgeous and such an accomplished artist too! This is an old performance but still so amazing
What I've heard is that she wrote the song after reading a newspaper article about a man who killed his wife. His wife being terminally ill with ALS. The lyrics is one of a kind - and so is Aurora ❤
Little boy in the grass, Mahogany sessions is a little known let alone reviewed/requested piece. It speaks for itself, like so many of her performances do.
Two other of her performances to check out… 1. All is soft inside - live at KEXP. th-cam.com/video/IS2iVcGz_Ok/w-d-xo.html She says it is “for the emotional people” and she explodes toward the end 2. Through the eyes of a child - live at nidarosdomen. th-cam.com/video/ncG9zTzsisE/w-d-xo.html I think you might actually see her soul toward the end of the song
Nice review. I suggest Lucky or Through the Eyes of a Child, from the live concert at Nidarosdomen. Even a revisit of this song at that venue is worth the time because of the different arrangement and how she melts at the end of it, on that stage. Super dramatic, all three of those songs on that stage.
I must say that this is the first time I have ever heard of her. I really don't know what to say. Her voice is spellbinding. I was so caught up with her voice that I realized that I was not paying enough attention to the words.I will have to go back and do a repeat of this one. Like I do a lot of your work. Thank you
The vocals in this are mind blowing. From a full belting tone at times to absolutely crystalline. This was the first piece of hers that I ever experienced. I love the ambiguity. We have no idea why the person with the gun is doing what they do, other than that they believe that it is for mercy. This could be because the song is being sung by an injured deer on the side of the road. The song may be sung by an injured soldier who cannot survive until help arrives. This song could be sung by a child born into a cult whose parents believe that the world is ending and the only way to save them is to keep them from falling into the hands of a government that disagrees with them. This song could be sung by a person who is terminally ill and asks their brother to please hold them tight. And let them go. Her voice absolutely shatters me in this. But the ambiguity is what keeps me coming back.
Nice to see you react to Aurora again. Aurora was inspired to write this song after reading in the newspaper about a man who had taken his wife or girlfriend out of her misery, due to severe and painful illness, by killing her. If it was with or without the girl's concent I do not know. I do hope tho, that is was a mutual agreement. Love from Norway :-)

Yes!!! Yesterday, I literally looked up “mrlboyd reacts to Aurora” to see if you had reacted to more of her and here you are with a new one! (I’ve been binging the Eminem reactions all day 🙌🏽)
She has so much great music that suggesting a cover seems odd, but she has an AMAZING cover of 'Teardrop' by Massive Attack (AKA - The "House" theme song)
@@rusaxe4443 Also her unreleased song "When I'm Gone (Getting Colder)" and unreleased song "All My Demons" can both be interpreted to be about suicide, or at least about death.

Thank you so much for your great reaction to this masterpiece 🙏💖 Have you reacted to "Through the eyes of a child" live at Nidarosdomen? Or "The Seed" official music video?
never heard of this artist before, I liked your interpretation of the shaking and repetetive "oh oh oh", I didn't understand it but your interpretation made sense. I took the lyrics as meaning that she (or the "lyrical 'I'") was saying they recognised that the "He" in the song *Believed* HE was providing HIS "mercy" to Her, and not that she wanted to be, er, "Mercied"?
We Earthlings have been gifted by Odin, The Viking God up in Valhalla (Viking Heaven), with two exceptional singers that mesmerize us from both ends of the musical spectrum, that being Aurora and Angelina Jordan.
I love the way you speak. Nice and easy. Lovely. What is first time you reacted to her. I'd like to hear that. And yes that guy works well with her. He is a friend.
Hello and thank you for your fine reaction to AURORA. There are many songs you can react to. I recommend - Through The Eyes Of a Child (Live at Nidarosdomen) - she sang in norway's biggest cathedral - phenomenal acoustics - It Happened Quiet (Live at The Current) - these great harmonies - The Seed (Official Video - VEVO) - it's about the climat change - should be compulsory in schools - Exist For Love (Official Video - VEVO) - if you want to fall in love - Cure For Me (Official Video - VEVO) - if you want to dance - Heathens (Live Performance) - her latest song I usually prefer her live performances. But in these cases the VEVO video is more impressive. Have a nice week and Greetings from Germany
Like the others have said the song is about euthanasia, also called mercy-killing or assisted suicide. She read an article in the newspaper about a man who killed his wife who was terminally ill thus the lines "I know he knows that he's killing me for mercy" and "he did it all to save me from the awful things that comes" are relevant. It's a deeply troubling subject matter for Aurora and for her to sing it (by invite) at a Noble Peace Prize performance is somewhat befitting.

Oh man, please listen to some Florence + the Machine! If you need some suggestions, my favorites off the top of my head: Between Two Lungs, Spectrum, Howl, Delilah, Lover To Lover, Never Let Me Go, Shake It Out, Seven Devils, St. Jude, Sky Full of Song, Hunger, Big God, 100 Years, go wild!
She was a very young girl when she wrote this song, inspired by an incident in her town in which a man euthanized his terminally ill wife to spare her a slow agonizing death. She imagined the scene from the departing wife's point of view. It's one of the saddest stories I've ever heard, and also one of the most stunning pieces of art I've ever witnessed. The stripped down performance and simple lyrics fully convey the deep and complex meaning underneath. It's astonishing that a child could even conceive such a masterpiece, much less craft it.
She is as vulnerable as finely spun glass and as strong as high carbon steel. Her art rips you apart and heals you at the same time. Who does that? Her art is almost too intense to bear, but you can't look away. She is a siren in the form of a wood nymph. Resistance is futile!
@@jeffmalloy8200 She's what a genuinely free, fully expressed human spirit looks like. An extremely rare thing in today's world. Once you've seen it, it's difficult to look away.
Do you know in which interview Aurora mentions this news story? I talked to another youtube commentator "Coyote818181" who saw/read the interview, but he could not find it again.
she wrote this when she was 13 because of a news article about a man who killed his wife i think. She has a fascination with death, quite a few of her songs including this one pertain to death or involve it in some way. She has a very unique way of seeing the world, you should check out some of her interviews or better yet react to Aurora Haik concert and documentary.
You are correct, here are her own words about her fascination with death: "I've thought a lot about death in my life. I think about it a lot, but not in a bad way. Not with fear, but with a form of curiosity.... ...I thought a lot about death when I was little. I remember that when I got nice things for my birthday, I would get sad. Because I thought: 'But I'm going to die one day, what will I do with this thing then?! Then I cannot be with this teddy bear or...'" youtu . be/Bb9J68FSjo0&t=8m57s (CC for English subs)
