That asam pedas looks good, right thickness in the gravy and can see right amount of tamarind is used by how brownish the gravy is. It's nice to see Japanese also have learn to appreciate and love Asam Pedas and it's flavours, 1 of my fav dish and I like stingray or tetel(beef tripe) asam pedas.

One of my favourite Melaka food is their Pork Satay with Savoury marinade instead of sweet.. so far I can only it find in Melaka

Yes, in simple we call them asam fish, it's sourness with salt and sweet. The moment I look at them I know it will be nice food. My favourite food too. Yummy.

Yes, Malacca and Penang should be similar in some sense, especially with old buildings area, because Penang-Malacca-Singapore was The Straits Settlements during British Colonial era.
Johor asam pedas put some daun kesum or bunga kantan ...n a lil bit blackpepper .
Melaka asam pedas put some daun limau purut n .if it ASAM PEDAS DAGING or KETETEL ...they put some halba .
Its a different taste from each other
If you are wondering why Melaka, Penang and Singapore looks similar in terms of architecture and also the Peranakan ( baba and nyonya) culture, you can google up the straits settlements, its a brief history when they were part of a single group of British Territory during the early 19th century till 1946.

I agree. The best place to have asam pedas is Melaka (dan N9). Rasa pekat, flavorful dan orang menjual macam nak buat makan sendiri. Kalau kat KL ni banyak cair dan rasa pun nak taknak je, macam kedekut bahan.
I personally cannot take pedas food (i grew up with Kelantanese food), but for asam pedas i would redah the pedas cause it's sooo delicious.

Yesssss asam pedas from melaka is the besttttttttt. Enough claim. Ehhehehe. The rest food other states can take their trophies. But asam pedas will always be melakas no. 1 dish.
Assam Pedas is best eaten with kicap lemak manis (soya sauce) & also telor dadar as a side dish.

I really say Thank you guys for eating food by your hand... In Malaysia I was very shy to eat by hand because I am Indian.. All middle class people eat by hand in India. So I don't know use spoons and fork properly..
You guys should try the baba laksa at 88 Jonker Street too and the ABC/cendol there is also nice
I feel like everything at jonker 88 is delicious. Their laksa kahwin, nasi lemak, rojak, abc cendol. Just that it can be hard if you want to eat inside the shop.

The truth behind the sedapness is the fish
Regarding asam pedas, there's some tiny dispute between asam pedas Melaka & asam pedas Muar (Johor) about who make better asam pedas.
Some even said Muar is the better version of asam pedas even some Melaka folk said "the only best asam pedas in Melaka is the one that were made from their own home themselves (homemade)". But Muar people never claimed that asam pedas were originated from their place, only claiming their asam pedas is better version.
Btw, Muar is a district in northern Johor which is border with the state of Melaka.

Melaka and johor has just slightly different taste of asam pedas..the one you ate at jb is Chinese asam pedas.maybe its asam pedas nyonya or something. We don't know the taste of Chinese asam pedas. Asam pedas pak man is undoubtedly delicious..just slight different with malay johor asam pedas, since they use different leaf.but its hard to find good asam pedas in johor nowadays
