- Gen Z isn't watching Disney Plus, according to Samba TV. They're not here for Marvel, Star Wars or Doctor Who. So will Disney's attempt to kick older fans to the curb to chase new fans pay off or not?

@ClownfishTV I find this actually a good thing, considering how much WOKE has been implementing in these companies and corporations. If it isn't clear by now, the reason that quote "They", wanted to attract to younger audience is because that is the BEST way to spread their agenda, their ideology. This is why children schools are now dumping LGBTQAI or IA....plus......whatever it's getting Ridiculous! lol Anyway, it disgust me and thank goodness, Parents are waking up to this and have called out about the trouble it brings. Some of them are homeschooling their kids because of it. That's sad, but I can't blame them.
Doctor who is probably even worse as it is tampered with woke propaganda and what not. The Newer seasons I mean. Peace
They got rid of and insulted a decades long loyal fan base for an imaginary base that never existed. So brave.
modern audiences am i right?
And stunning
and groundbreaking.
Yep and Gen Z are just like Gen X they have no problem with people being Gay but they have no want to watch it lil Girls still like Barbies and Horses Lil boys still like Male Heros fighting like Star Wars was for 40 years who'd have thought it
The Message for the "modern audiences"....
I agree with you.
They don't give a damn about making good stories anymore.
And it's a fluke when we get good stories from them in this day and age.
If you want good stories, look to the past or make them yourself.
I am Gen Z. Can confirm. Why pay to watch that garbage when there’s so much free entertainment out on the web?
Same here
That's what I've been saying, Gen z is ultimately just like everyone else that came before them and they want quality entertainment like the rest of us, that's why they're going back to older stuff
I'm betting a good chunk of friends watch anime.
Nephiews are 19-21 Neice 16 they will watch 80s 90s they will watch classic Star Wars They talk to there mates if its Message free like MEG or King Zilla they go to the Pictures but they have no intrest in the new stuff turns out WOKE turned the Modern Audiance OFF
Hell there's better stories made over 40 to 60 plus years. Some of the best movies alone were made back in 80's which as far as I'm concerned was the absoutle peak of creativity Hollywood was able to put out. The last truly great thing Hollywood was able to give the world was Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy back in the early 2000s. It's been nothing but a slow decline from then on.
Gen Z wants the same thing that Millinials, Gen X, Boomers and everybody else want. Good stories. That's why Gen Z and everyone else is rejecting new media and going back to old shows, movies, and video games.....There is no Modern Audience.
Im more of going back to what I grew up with as a kid from 2004-2015
Not in the way Hollywood imagines, at least. Modern pop culture fans may be less willing to suspend their disbelief than previous generations, they tend to think more critically and expect more complexity, nuance, continuity, and character development, but those are *my* observations.
sure seems that way; wonder how the big time execs will make sense of this?
@@realjoemavroOnly when the media isn't hitting some preference. It's like those Wattpad adapted novels. They had none of those qualities but they had a Twilight effect on fans so it didn't matter if the story was meh.
To be honest I’m borderline gen z but technically am just a young millennial. But solid gen z seems to be dominated by rule of cool mentality. The media can be shit look cool and they just drool all over it. It’s quite annoying as someone that wants a good story and rule of cool.
Imagine your company shifting focus to people that don't even support the business and then wondering why it is losing billions.
It's a mystery!!
Imagine being an old white man and telling all your customers that old white men are racist and then wondering why they no longer buy your products
They know, it's just another destruction of cultural icons and heroes. It's a Marxist tactic but the end goal isn't communism, it's Neo-feudalism.
Stunning and brainless
but diversity!
It's hilarious because all this slop is made specifically to cater to them, and even they don't want to watch it.
They are all on TikTok
It is really catered to the creators, lots of self inserts
WRONG. It was never "catered to them", the entire purpose was to delegitimize and deconstruct and disrespect everything that came before itself.
These people dont make things FOR themselves, they make things to act AGAINST you. At the end of the day the Leftists will hate the product either way; they're only making things to make Right Wingers mad even if they hate it themselves.
That's why they're closing it down in the US I wonder if Gen Z will start to use VPNs @@chiquita683
@@bluebird3281 Exactly this. It's created by millenials that do self inserts and believe they are cool the fellows kids... It's like the Buscemi meme...
As a Gen Z all the shows I was interested in have already been cancelled or defiled beyond all recognition. Now I spend my free time watching anime and reading manga and occasionally rewatching the good shows from my child hood like Avatar TLAB (Legends of Korra can dive off the cliffhanger it left), Doctor Who (Capaldi was the Doctor's *LAST* regen), and Teen Titans (Go can fall into a pit).
☝🏿👍🏿💯
I'm so tired of people talking shit to me for not liking Korra. What a shit show
Same and it's not just me. My parents who are in their 50s now watch youtubers and anime more than they do tv. Every time they ask me about a show it's always an anime or a show based on a game.
Yep, also Gen Z and despite growing up with the MCU, after Endgame it all lost the sparkle to me, and I only kept up with Anime and Manga.
The japanese industry certainly has a lot of problems, but at the very least the way Shonen Jump handles stuff, the amount of LNs and VNs the pump out and even original anime, the industry is always fresh. Sure they can have low periods (like the isekai LN adaptation dark ages, when we had 8 identical shows per season), but they can easily break out of it when new hits come along with newer ideas.
@Kradd All they had to do was set it up like ALTAB with Amon as the main bad guy who somehow learned energy bending giving Korra the new responsibility of bringing harmony back between benders and non-benders on top of harmony between the spirit realm and living realm. Instead we got mary sue, non-lethal blood bending, Avatar must die, Avatar must die 2 electric boogaloo, metal bending go brrrr, and I'm bi.
My son is on the border of Gen Z and Alpha (born 2011), and this is mostly accurate. He does like the old Star Wars I've raised him on, but wants nothing to do with the new stuff. But no Marvel, No Disney, and No Dr. Who even watches that show anymore?
This is key.
Your kids like StarvWars because you liked it and shared it with them.
Disney chased off their long-time fans, who now no longer share this stuff with their kids. Kids don't have fond memories of watching these shows with their parents.
There is no audience anymore.
The only people watching Doctor Who are the people that made it.
I’m gen Z, and I’ve only seen one person from my generation who watched that show. But that was 10 years ago. Now it’s kinda forgotten.
All the marvel shows that gen z emotionally bonded to (Ironman, Captain America the first avenger, Spectacular Spider man, etc.) have had their characters replaced. They're not even targeting the core gen z demographic (~2002 - 2007) because if they were they wouldn't be replacing characters like Tony Stark, Steve rogers and Peter Parker. Growing up and seeing the characters you love being actively phased out and disrespected just makes you want to forget about the entire brand.
Dr. Who sounds like a kids movie I don't think anyone older than 14 is gonna watch that 😂
Most of these shows are written by adults with arrested developement who write the characters not as relatable but as themselves still stuck in a teenage body and mindset with how they WISH they could run the world. It's more or less wish fulfilment for someone else and you're expected to accept your place within the world of someone who has a massive case of main character syndrome.
@@SuperCosmicMutantSquid ...did we just become friends 🤔🤔🤔 "main character syndrome" is definitely a thing consuming most of Hollywood; especially at Disney 🤦
Why would Gen Z watch any of this crap? They’re not dumb, mostly, and to think that they’ll fall for the “message” is insulting.
Disney really bets on everyone being just stupid consumers. People are waking up.
There was a time-tested formula that usually worked for long-running franchises. Parents, older siblings, etc. would share the good stuff from their youth to the next, thus expanding the audience. Trying to "replace" instead of expand was always a fools errand.
They destroyed the family unit...
so they destroyed their model.
@@Juan-os4hsbut in this instance it doesn’t really matter if it’s necessarily family but people in general like good entertaining art. Since it already exists, how do they expect to replace it with garbage no one likes? People will always recommend the good art they like to others and it will gain popularity through word of mouth. The garbage they push will never catch on.
During millennial's childhood they had the Disney renaissance. Gen Z grew up in the post-renaissance era so they don’t have as much nostalgia for the brand.
That's true. I grew up with 'Beauty & The Beast', 'The Little Mermaid', 'Aladdin' and 'The Lion King'. Great times and so magical for a kid.
They grew up with prime Pixar, MCU & hit shows on Disney Channel so I would have to disagree
@@JohnSmith-tl8pqHahaha those Disney Renaissance Movies were my chilhood. Really fortunate to be 90's Millenium
@@vp_wrld Very good point. It wasn't too long ago that Pixar was untouchable. Now they're untouchable in another sense. lmfao
FR like I grew up watching that on VHS but like it wasn't like the thing that made my summers.
The Great Reset finally came for the entertainment industry.
Just not in the way they thought it would.
As I say too many times, actions have consequences.
And the customer is right, whether you like them or not.
Hard to deny there isn't a targeted destruction of classic ips and Fandoms etc with all this bs. Years ago they would of course corrected to not to under quick
They've got a policy of NOT "reinforcing gender stereotypes".
That means that masculine men are a problem (for their policy), as are feminine women.
This leads to weak ineffective (even effete) male characters, and overly masculine female characters...
I can confirm that Gen Z don't watch any of those anymore. My nephew is big on Warhammer right now & my niece is into Kpop. So yeah, they can suck it.
They look to other cultures because the ones here in the u.s suck.
mine are all watching old stuff turns out WOKE turned the Modern Audiance away
Just to let you know Warhammer looks at risk with recent controversies.
@@jaritime1406Do they understand what woke is and why it fails? The original Star wars are iconic.
Unfortunately Warhammer's going to be the next to fall. At least there are hundreds of good novels from the pre-woke era to dig into
They treated Gen Z like an alien species. I have lost track of the amount of meetings I've had with Producers, where they shoot down good ideas and propose genuinely terrible ideas - ideas they freely admit are terrible, but follow up with "But the Tik Tok Generation will LOVE that rubbish!" - They have absolutely no respect for their target demographic. They make no effort to understand them, they make a surface level, sweeping assumption and then wonder why they can never appeal to that demographic.
They threw us away for a group that doesn’t want them
Facts. Plus, we’re the ones with the disposable income to buy the merch and toys and posters and to go see a really good SW, or Superman, or Batman movie multiple times. They’ve given us no good reason.
Its more a case the Modern Audiance HATES WOKE as much as Gen X the ones they need to show there Grand Kids there stuff BUT we do not trust them so will only put the OG classics on and Gen Z will will sit them in front of youtube. Disney keep making things for the Alphabet Mafia was a foolish move as only about 0.1% of 14% = Massive loses as the other 13.99% (Ones who adopt kids) want it family safe as we all do
The irony....
@@jaritime1406 The alphabet mafia don't tend to have a lot of kids to pass on a Disney tradition to.
Its also about how much they hate White people and the western society.
Begs the question...who is watching it then...I'm GenX...and I don't watch that crap either...
A very select few, and bots.
Apparently, this "modern audience" they have been catering to is very small in number.
Who would have guessed?
Jounalists, Reviewers and that's pretty much it.
There is a reason why NONE of these shows have any good ratings. because noone but a handful is watching it and more then half of those people are Only watching it because its their job.
Its called cooking the books
Millennials. They are the ones that still buy into the whole DEI garbage propaganda.
No one does. That’s the problem.
My 30 year old daughter uses Netflix and TH-cam for her 4 year old daughter to watch. As far as I know, her daughter has never watched anything Disney. What’s weird is that when my daughter was little she lived and breathed Disney.
Disney is done now. I boycott disney
I have all the old Disney movies and shows I enjoyed on DVD for when my children are old enough. Pruchased second-hand off eBay. My toddlers love the classic Muppets. I'll never show them any of the new trash, and I'll never give Disney a cent.
Disney isn't what it used to be. All the creatives that really cared have all left and started their stuff elsewhere... if they kept their passion.
@2012sonora
There's no "chemtrials" CGI added to the scenes of skies in your physical copies. 😉
Gen Z is watching anime. Look at the traction of shows like JJK, and One Piece on social platforms. Essentially Western Companies have lost their connection with their audiences. And now they don’t have any future “nostalgia” projects they can use on Gen Z
Even anime isn't nearly as cool as it was in the 80s and 90s. It all seems to follow a tired formula.
Dragonball is the best show ever and it's a millenial 90s show.
@@adampierce7468 yeah, among gen z, series like NGE and Naruto are still the most popular ones, although there are definitely many more creative shows being made than in north america. Asobi Asobase and Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Ren'ai Zunōsen come to mind.
So perhaps chasing off the old fan base and calling them a bunch of "toxic crybaby WWII bad guys" might have been a bad idea all along? Heck maybe even just basically destroying the legacies of many of these franchises in pursuit of a nonexistent modern audience was also a terrible idea in the end? Now if Disney's leadership would finally admit this and try to course correct, maybe they might be able to save face but then again I have a better chance of becoming the King of Norway.
Well said your highness 👑
@@Evaonk Great reply
Ppl refuse to admit target audiences exist. Peak mcu did appeal to wider group but they Peak mcu casual enjoyers left soon as it was bad. They didn't have the background of attachment like older fans
Why should they? No one else does at this point.
My boy is 16, there is absolutely no reason for him to tune into Disney+. It's either for kids or adults who act like kids. We have physical copies of SW ep. 4,5, and 6, and Marvel phases 4 and under. That's all we need.
If your sons an xmen fan i would recommend xmen 97 (not saying buy disney+ for it) but it suprised me
Bluey accounts for half of Disney+ viewership.
I am gen z, and I think the problem is that they assume that all of us are gullible, stupid/silly, and super progressive. A gen z person can like marvel, doctor who, etc without being catered to
Sounds like you were raised right. Good on you.
I will never understand what makes people ”progressive”? Must be bad childhood or abuse.
One big problem being, if you as a gen Z person liked the old marvel, Star wars, or Doctor who, and don't like the new s*** they've been pedaling. They've been calling you a racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, bigot for having complaints along with "the toxic white middle aged males they didn't need as a fan base".
Antagonizing your most devoted fan base, for wanting the product you're producing to show some respect to the products they've loved, really is an unwise and wrong-headed idea.
@@realjoemavroAs another Gen Z, most of us are not the woke hyper progressive people you see in the media. It is a small very loud minority of the generation who is hyper focused by the media.
@@Thechosen1000 Honestly I think its millennials more than us lol, they started this whole mess.
We could have told them this YEARS AGO.
We did. They just told us all to f&*% off. Not our fault if we listened.
Weird isn't? How no one for YEARS said a single word. If only someone did this crisis could of been averted...
Also, trying to appeal to the younger audience like they existed in a void is pure comedy.
Don't these corporate suits realize that if their PARENTS won't pay for your services then THEIR kids are not going to consume YOUR product?
It is the exact same thing with their theme parks, if you keep raising prices and lowering quality of services then the only people left are gonna be those childless Disney Adults, but they don't have big families with lots of kids like the average joe has, so you already lost the kids, because they won't grow up with the nostalgia for Disney like we and our parents generations had.
Meaning all your nostalgia bait will be useless for young people that have no nostalgia for your stuff.
I'm part of gen Z, I used to watch Doctor Who, Marvel, Star Wars, etc. I don't watch any of them anymore
They said it was MADE FOR a modern audience, they never technically said that modern audience actually watched it. Just that it was made for them. Like how during NHL Playoffs every single ESPN/TNT commercial is 98% black people who aren't watching hockey.
Modern audience living in So Cal and San Francisco perhaps? Definitely not Peoria.
All the "Modern Audience" watches it, turns out, that the M.A. is quite small, compared to the "general" or "common" audiences. 🤔
"Modern" audience = The author and their clique

And claque-a group of persons hired to applaud an act or performer.
Rotten Tomatoes 🍅 used to be reliable, for a while, before Hollywood and other special interests (🔁) infiltrated and subverted it, that's the reference, standard, measurement and guage for the "Modern Audience."
it’s a domino effect, the parents, siblings, etc… would get the younger generation into these things. they cut the hose
Gen Z here and the answer is simply because most stuff being put out nowadays suck.
My daughter is Gen Z, born in 99. She watched all of it before it all went to shite. Then she stopped. Just like I did. Just like we all did. Gen Z is smart and can see this is all substandard shite.
We mostly just watch anime and old shows/movies now.
I am a Millennial and I don't like Marvel, Star Wars, Dr. Who, or Disney
I used to like old Disney princess movies, but I never liked American comic shows or the ugly Disney remakes.
One day the world will look back on this era of film and TV in disbelief. Except for all us poor saps who had to live through it.
Disney has lost every generation. Disney! I've got Disney Plus here! See, NOBODY cares.
No wonder they're going extinct. 🤣🤣
Gen Z can’t afford rent, so how are they going to pay for a subscription service to all the content providers? The D+ business strategy was borked from the jump, and they STILL don’t get it. D+ most popular show is Bluey, their top demographic is 1 to 5 year olds. Which makes sense because they’re the Disney Channel.
I’m a Millennial. I just lift weights, code, read, play video games, and watch comedians on TH-cam lol
But your generation has the Disney Adults tho
@@naomibelekof7254So, that doesn't mean we all like watching turds dry.
@@naomibelekof7254 But Disney beyond sucks now. I grew up on Disney back in the 90s and stopped watching anything Disney about a decade ago. If anything, the current Disney is blasphemy and violated everything we loved. And not just Disney, everything was ruined since.
One thing Disney didn’t realise was that by throwing away Gen X for some virtue signalling audience they were also throwing away the parents of Gen Z and Gen Alpha i.e. future consumers.
I grew up with Disney shows and merch alongside superheroes and Star Wars. My kids don’t follow any of that now and I probably inadvertently reinforced that leaning away.
I realise that I myself don’t count in Disney’s financial and marketing business equations. However, when there started to be thousands like me and my wife, well, it started to matter as the number kept growing.
Gee... I wonder why?
Could it be the deconstruction of the heroes? The mantles being passed that lose meaning as it goes on? Assigning sexual orientation to clearly coded characters with years to back up? The lack of comics that back up characters as their movies are released? Multiverse plotlines that remove all stakes?
No... Clearly... It's the children who are wrong. 🤔
I’m Gen Z and I have no interest in Disney. They killed Star Wars. Disney’s problem is that 97% of the content on Disney+ is kids content.
People aren't interested in old franchises being dragged out past their expiration dates. They want new franchises.
Gen Z has rejected WOKE the Modern Audiance have said FK NO there watching 80s 90s classics like Friends Star Wars 1-6 Marvel till End Game The Meg King vs Zilla but good luck getting them to go to a new Marvel Star Wars Disney movie they will tell you its just GAY they lost them
It isn't even that. It's badly written. The fact that gay isn't just a sexuality, it is the entire personality, for instance. Deadpool is done correctly in that he is bisexual, but it is something that comes up every now and again vs actively being his entire personality. His sexuality adds to the story and sometimes even the hijinks, but it isn't done all the time to the detriment of everything else. The characters and storylines being rolled out now are flat out garbage. It's so bad that actors and actresses are practically being tricked into roles, specifically Dakota Johnson and one other in Madame Web come to mind.
They lost everyone.
You know what my gen z kids watch? 2000s and 90s sitcoms, cause they’re not loaded down with THE MESSAGE. You know what we used to watch together? Marvel, Disney, Star Wars. Not anymore.
The problem is that the majority of people dont want the woke Disney that has happened. Disney changed for an audience that makes up 1 percent of the population. And their box office reflects that.
Disney and his minions completely lost it
Every 10 years, there is a new generation of adults, with new interests.
That, and the new writting for these shows is awful.
I'm from gen z and I don't wanna watch those garbage movies and series. I decided to watch the old movies on dvds and blu ray again.
"For a modern audience"
🤣
In other words, Disney is targeting vulnerable young audience.
@@christophermichaelclarence6003 Yes, some of them are, but IMO, most of them are just chasing an audience that doesn't exist, and probably never will.
Of course they’re not, they rather watch what’s in social media like this, than to pay for garbage.
Most of Gen Z aren’t delusional out of touch corporate woke losers.
So no shock at all.
They forget that the younger audience is our children. My kids dislike the same things I dislike. I'm not conditioning my kids, I'm just instilling my values.

I'm a Millennial, although nearly gen z, and I also don't watch, being a huge nerd, fan of the comics, read them way back too, but disney has been turning what used to be some of my favourite IPs into the worst of snoozefests, mostly unwatchable imo... It's not only Disney too, but Disney is probably the worst offender.
They've lost the kids because they've pushed away the adults who would have passed on their love for these franchises to their children. I'll teach my kids to love the original Star Wars, Doctor Who up through part of Capaldi, and Avengers through Endgame, but we won't be watching any of the newer stuff together.
I have 29, 26, 19, 17, 15 year old kids. None of them watch Western movies or streaming shows. Some Game of Thrones, anime, Korean drama. Rest is gaming and socializing. My wife and I love movie theaters and streaming, have money to spend, but they are mostly chasing this phantom modern audience.
Gen Z recognizes quality, that's why they are watching older movies on Netflix, and ignoring the woke crap that disney is pumping out.
I had D+ just to rewatch old cartoons from Disney. (89 born)
But they either didnt upload everything or a lot were removed randomly, and later some movies.
Now it confusing too find anything and most stuff is gone, not for me.
Gen X ain't really watching anymore too
Funny, I figured gen z must have been this modern audience we hear so much about.
You mean to tell me that the "Modern Audience" they were catering to didn't actually exist?!
Nah they’re real. They just prefer cool stuff like BFDI and skateboards
I remember five or so years ago, Disney princesses were huge on facebook with Millennial/Zoomer cuspers. Disney had so much goodwill, and they squandered it!
One thing that i think is also happening is, because companies like Disney are actively attacking and pushing away the long time fans of old IPs like Star Wars, some Gen Z kids see that and don't see the companies in a good light. They could be thinking "well if they treat their older fans like that, they might treat the new fans like that too sooner or later".
Edit: That wasn't explained very well, but you get what I'm trying to say, right?
makes sense to me. no one wants to follow an IP that has been deemed “lame” by OG fanbases. why wound i, as a gen z, want to get watch the new star wars content if all the life-long OG star wars fans (the people who supposedly love star wars the most) say it’s lame and not good?
Gen -X don't give a fcuk !!! Hell yeah-let's hear it for Gen-X,we the best gen !!!

These franchises are family entertainment and when you stop catering to the family and start courting the cat ladies you lose audience. The way younger generations are introduced to this stuff is by the parents, you show your kids the stuff you liked and if the new stuffs worth watching you see it together but for a diverse range of reasons the makers have forgotten how to make family entertainment.
I have 3 kids, 11, 8 and 4. None of them watch any of this crap. I only let them watch those tom & jerry type cartoons, like that bear with the lemmings one and things of the type. I watch anything they watch, if I see a sliver of woke, I block it.
Tom & Jerry, isn't Disney, they come from the same era as Mickey & Bugs, but they are made by people who have FAR more creative talent than what Disney has today!!

In my experience that is true. My Gen-Z daughter enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy but that’s it. She has no interest in SW, other Marvel movies, even Harry Potter.
Kids are into videogames and youtube. They do not care about movies. Especially nostalgia bait for an era that belongs to their parents and even grand parents.
Why PAY to have your intelligence, morality and heritage insulted when there is plenty of free, higher quality entertainment online?
Been saying this for a couple years now and it goes for Hollywood as a whole. It's f*cked, they've completely failed to win over the upcoming generations. The last half of gen Z and all of gen Alpha don't watch shows or movies. There was a study done last year and shows/movies didn't even crack the top 10 of things they do for entertainment, which was overwhelmingly TH-cam, video games and third was other social media, these three took up like %90 of the chart. And you can see it with your own eyes, people under 20 don't give a crap shows or movies.
My teenage granddaughters play video games online with their friends and watch TH-cam. It's rather rare for them to ask to see a movie. We have Netflix and Prime and they don't watch those - there's nothing that interests them. One of them asked to see Five Nights at Freddy's - that was the first film in like a year!
Gen Z ain’t interested in Disney because the closest thing to a Lion King or Aladdin Disney’s put out since the 1990s was Frozen.
Millennials grew up wearing out their Lion King VHS tapes out. Gen Z grew up watching MINIONS.
And now Universal’s theme park is eclipsing Disney World . . .
Not exactly, I'm an older Gen Z and also grew up on VHS in the early years of my childhood. VHS was still being used by some us Gen Z's and we were watching the 90s Disney films on them before our parents bought the DVD version of the films. As for the Minions I would say they were definitely more popular amongst younger Gen Z than the Gen Z of my age. For older Gen Z of my age it was the 2000s Pixar & Dreamworks films we grew up watching. Disney was still popular amongst us however it was more so in TV. We grew up in the prime Disney Channel era and I guess you could say that was our version of the renaissance era.
@@Thechosen1000Generational generalizations are always generalizations. (Most of the Baby Boomers I know were _nothing_ like the "stereotypical boomer", for example).
My basic point still stands: the closest thing to "cultural milestone" that Disney has made (like Beauty and the Beast or Lion King that _everybody_ saw) since 2000 was Frozen (and Pixar's Cars - but Pixar isn't - or wasn't - exactly - "Disney" as much as the Mouse owned the desk lamp).
And, as Gen Z hits their Teens and Twenties - their cultural milestone movie was Infinity War and Endgame (five years ago) - and certainly not Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker. Since Endgame, however, Gen Z has hardly looked again at anything with a "Marvel" label on it, not the comics, not the Avengers videogame, not the movies, nor D+ series.
Im Gen-Z, and I dont really use it, but if i do, it's for stuff from when i was younger, like Lilo and Stitch.
Take the built-in, generational audience already proven to spend billions not only on the IP but for each installment of the IP's.
Then cater to your own narcissistic ego while labeling it "modern audiences"
Go broke while blaming the original fans you so callously disregarded to begin with(repeat this step endlessly)
In the words of Tony Stank "Not a good plan"
Nice Civil War shout out.
So I suppose this confirms what we have all suspected for a while now. These entertainment companies desecrate all of these movies, video games, TV shows, comic books etc and tell the older fan-bases to piss off just to chase after an audience that doesn't exist! Galaxy brain logic right there! Well, I guess companies like Disney, Marvel, Ubisoft and God knows how many others will have to pay the toll sooner or later! 😂👍
So where are these modern audiences? Maybe they like also like normal stuff.
You couldn’t take me away from reading Disney Adventure Magazines as a kid…Goodness, what happened?
Gen Alpha are the ones who still need their parents money to buy things. The earlier half of Gen Z are young adults.
My kids like 90’s sitcoms and Avatar.
I've seen this with Disney Channel during the 2000's. They ignore, and alienate older viewers in favor of younger viewers. (Particularly, tween girls) This also happening with Disney's comics going from Gemstone to Boom Studios sounds similar. I want the old Disney. Not the 'All New, All Different Disney'.
The fact that someone who was an intern who got promoted to a MARKETING MANAGER that quickly is a red flag of epic proportions. To add insult to injury, it’s a 23 year old. They’re not even old enough to have their own health insurance!
21 year old, hardly ever watched any of these before. I've been watching anime ever since I was like 6 years old a bit late for that they should be thinking about their current fan-base and the kids their main fan base has. Disney has always done that but I guess they lost the plot.
This is so true, anything Disney has touched it just so shit. That's why Gen Z isn't watching it, they ruined every great franchise!
It's almost like companies should first and foremost value the customers they have before chasing after ones they don't.
Is ANYONE watching Disney anymore?
I watch stuff from when I was a kid, Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, etc. Very little of the modern stuff has the same flavor.
@@realjoemavrosame.
Wander over Yonder is even better than I remembered it when I was little.
Also amphibia is funny.
@@Cubeytheawesome
I had a good time with The Owl House, but I prefer Amphibia. I also had a good time with Gravity Falls, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, and especially the Ducktails reboot, which is everything a reeboot should be. I didn't see much of Adventure Time, but what little I saw was pretty good. I heard Steven Universe and the She-Ra reboot were woke grabage, so I never watched them.
This is why Disney should have remained a *FAMILY* focused company, because every generation gets married and has kids. Instead, they stupidly decided to try and maximize profits by raising prices and focusing on childless "Disney Adults," without ever thinking about the fact that those are the very people who die alone, without having anyone to pass their love of the Disney Brand down to. You did this to yourself, Disney. You did this to yourself.
the funniest part of all this is that if all thesee companies kept the slow burn of content coming in everything would probably be fine
I’m Gen-Z, I love some of these franchises, I hate everything that they are doing to them right now and that made me lose interest.
One problem Disney is facing is they don't want an audience that is pale male and stale, but they aren't getting enough of those pieces of paper that only seem to have portraits of people who are male stale and pale.
Out of all the classic series and fandoms (Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, ect.) Dr Who got destroyed the most and lost the most support from fans.
At least some fans stuck around for the other series and are like, " I can find a small diamond in the rough." I have not heard ANYBODY say anything good about Dr Who after the Calpaldi seasons.
I can say as a 18 Year old aka a Gen Z. I haven't been on Disney + since Werewolf by Night. I don't care about the MCU or mostly Marvel. I don't care about DC. I don't care about Doctor Who. The only thing I truly care about is Transformers. And that's saying something when my Dad took me to see the First Iron Man movie back in 2005. I think. Or he might have took me after I was old enough aka a few months old or more. Overall. I was there at the beginning. And now I'm abandoning the ship before it sinks
Disney only seems to know how to pander and create shallow and half-hearted attempts at inclusion. Their stories have no depth or thoughtful themes or any replay value. You watch one Disney+ show and there is little reason to rewatch it.
Gen Z sees through all this empty pandering, clocks it as disingenuous and don't watch the shows or movies.
People have been saying this was the case for years but they were all hailed as red pillers, "man-babies" etc.
All this is true. As the "old man" (34) at my work place, all the gen z kids call me that. Everyday we all talk about what what were watching, our hobbies etc. And legit all the gen z never bring up anything about marvel star wars or just disney in general. My coworker (19) told me all he is doing is watching anime, playing magic, his DnD sessions and how he is getting into warhammer 40k.
Im one of the older members of GenZ.
I dont make a lot of money so i have to choose carefully when i want to get new entertainment.
I mostly choose Nintendo games rather than streaming services. I dont speak for others in my generation but il sure some of them feel the same.
Gen Z watches TikTok, TH-cam, and Netflix. But every generation wants quality storytelling, and if not quality, then really good distractions.
Well most of us pre-Gen Z were DYING to see these characters come to life in movies or on TV. These younger kids always had them in live media, so the want isn’t there. Makes sense
It was millenials that grew up on the cartoons an comics, id be surprised if theres that many genz that read comics
I'm pretty sure they read comics, just not the millennials that grew up with.
Older gen z, I ate most of this content up when I was younger. Marvel, Scooby Doo, Star wars was huge with my family and especially me. But they changed all of the content inside the fan base and expect the fans to stick around.
Delusional
As long as the loan money comes in, it matters not.
in order for disney to attract the "next generation" of audience, it has to appeal to both the old and the new audience.
vast majority of new audience isn't gonna pick up, what the previous majority of past audience had discarded.
Right? Why can't we just have content that doesn't satisfy any generation? Just good shit that appeals to most.
Nothing stays cool forever. It was private eyes, then westerns, the disaster movies, then action movies with a cop or a military guy, then antiheroes, then superheroes. I’m not sure what’s next but any time anyone style dominates then the next generation is ready for something new.
Probably something akin to The Witcher and/ or Fist of the North Star. Maybe because Gen X has had no positive adult traits to emulate from, which mellenials are sorely lacking in, they're looking outside the current Western influence, which is to have actual cool characters and good storytelling.
@@Beliasa01 that’s a very reductive take that assumes a lot. I’m not going to argue with you about whether the generation that raised you is worse or better than days of old. However, The problem isn’t bc of a lack role models to build characters off bc you have 100 years of cinema to digest and emulate. Lazy story writing comes from three places in my opinion. One…there are too many studios, streamers, networks, and just shows in general that has deleted the pool of talent. Two..putting social messaging/educating the audience over entertainment which makes characters less flawed/boring. Every show I watch feels like I’m watching an after school special and not something real. Three…the audience is so easily offended now and cancel culture is real. Not only will this movie flop but the mob will come after you for every project after that. You can t do anything at all provocative these days. This is the world we live in now and it’s not a good world for art.
Gen Z is giving up on Disney+, eh?
Say, why doesn't anyone talk about millennials anymore? Are we just too old now?
Sucks. Dumped on all the old fans and called us names, but their efforts to lure the youngins has failed. They’ve killed their own. Franchises
