O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 1960 model? WOW! I drove a 1965 C800…390 gas 5/2 speed. This was one sweet truck. Built as a road tractor, modified to pull mobile home & other trailers. It was such a wonderful & handy truck! I miss it so much! You have a truck that has so much potential! Wether you keep that engine or switch to a diesel, it will be one nice truck. The cabs are rather roomy & nice looking as well. You will enjoy this ride! 🥰🤩✌️
Well after driving this truck all summer, plans have changed. With the outrageous cost of diesel, I am leaving the y-block in it and dress it up. It runs too good and has plenty of power so the current focus will be the axles and chassis.
I seen where you mentioned they came off a FedEx truck. But I didn’t know if they would bolt right up or if the hubs had to be changed out. And are the rear wheels also off a FedEx truck? I really appreciate the info. I love how you have yours sitting. I took note of the leaf spring removal you informed someone else about. I’m going to replicate your truck’s stance it’s just like I want mine to be. Mine is a 1987 c800 but pretty sure the frames and stuff are the same.
They did bolt right up, same pattern. No drum changes necessary for the 6 lug. All six wheels are from a fedex truck. The isuzu or gm w4500 trucks used them as well. Eventually, I will upgrade the axles to an Oshkosh chassis delivery truck since those seem to have used Dana 80 rear axles.
If you are looking for a diesel...I have a 85 C700 with a 8.2L Detroit Diesel, has only 92k miles, it was a PG&E truck aged out of service, runs great, 5 speed manual. It also has the 22.5 10-lug wheels, which was key to me since I had a 72 C50 with widow makers and I had to trash that chassis (That cab is now on a dodge motorhome chassis). I want to change the drivetrain to a hybrid gas-electric, so don't need the diesel. Look forward to seeing your project. Ramp truck right?
I appreciate the offer but I decided to leave the y-block in it since it was a new rebuild with only a couple hundred miles on it. As for the bed, I think my plan is something similar to a Holmes 525 wrecker bed without the boom on it.
I took 2 leafs out of the front, leaving 3. Removed 5 leafs out of the rear. I removed every other leaf in the front and every 3rd leaf in the rear. All just temporary until I find newer axles and air ride it. Hope this helps.
One other thing I should mention, I changed the rims and tires to get rid of the widowmakers. It now has 19.5 rims with 225/70 tires off of a fedex truck. That alone dropped it 3 inches.
@@gmccartney72 ok thanks. That's good information as I'd also like to try and get a different wheel setup on mine. Are they a tubeless tire or do they still use a split lock ring on them?
cOMPANY i WORKED FOR HAD A FEW WITH FUELOIL TANKS AND 2 TRACTORS, 534 GAS MOTORS 5 SPD 2 SPD REAR, WOULD PULL A HOUSE DOWN , BAD PART WAS GAS MILEAGE OR LACK OF. SEEING IT WAS A SUNOCO DISTRIBUTOR NO PROBLEM, HAD TO WATCH TILTING CAB MAKE SURE NOTHING IN SHELF BEHIND SEAT, MANY CRACKED WINDSHEILDS.
Just a quick question on the new wheels. Did you just use the same drums with a 6 lug wheel on the front and what did you do with the rear wheels. Do they make a wheel that used the same hubs in the back 5 lug?? Thanks. I really want to change out my widow makers also.
Mine was 6 lug already so all I did was bolt the rims on. I didn't have to change anything on the wheel ends. As for a 5 lug, those I think had a 5 on 8" pattern. Not sure about replacement wheels for them.
There is a place in Minnesota that I have gotten some hard to find parts for mine. He has roughly 20-25 of these old cabover trucks. He is very good to deal with and says he can ship most parts. shanescarparts.com/category/vintage-truck/ford/

Beautiful!!!! Just got my '66 C600. I sure would like to give your engine a home if it becomes available.

Love it, been looking myself. drove one as a delivery truck long ago and loved the view of the road..

@@gmccartney72 thank you that is a lot of help. I really appreciate it. I like how yours is coming along so far it looks mean. I think. 🤙
Your welcome and thanks for the compliment. Good luck with your build and I look forward to seeing it.

Do you know just how many leafs you removed from the front and back? I like the height of this one and I'm looking at doing the same on mine.

@@gmccartney72 thanks, that’s exactly what I was looking for. I have the same plan but want some to help the looks until then

@@cameronconnolly9862 They are one piece tubeless.

Nice... what's your plans for a bed?
I'm leaning towards a 50-60's style wrecker bed without the boom, kind of like a step side.

Two words: Ramp. Truck.
update please.
Where is a good place to find parts?

Leave is gas.
It will stay gas. I forgot how much I like a y-block!
Damn those ford's were ugly. 😅
Face looks like it just sucked a lemon.
I used to think so too..
But old style auto body designs have potential..
Modern designs. No way
