    Any thoughts on a diagonal link vs a panhard bar?

    • @gmccartney72
      @gmccartney72 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@hotrodNova After all my research and talking to others, I formed my own opinion that a diagonal link was good for a static ride height and lightweight vehicle where the panhard bar suited an adjustable ride height, heavier duty suspension. Maybe I'll do a video explaining why I went with the style suspension I did.

    got another question for you on light sizes. What size are the lights in the grill?

    • @gmccartney72
      @gmccartney72 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The lenses are 4-1/4. The entire light is 5-1/2. Those are the same stock marker lights as a 1960 F100 pickup.

  • @gmccartney72
    @gmccartney72 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yes, the quad headlights are smaller. They are 5-3/4" diameter. The inner and outer sheet metal is different due to the dual headlight buckets. I looked long and hard for a truck with them since they were only used on 1958 through 1960. All other years only had the single large headlight.

  • @chadbear8938
    @chadbear8938 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks for sharing your journey. I am taking a similar one with a 58/78 C series. Question for you, what size are the headlights on your cab for the quad lights. I believe the single headlights were 7" but the quad lights look a bit smaller. I like the quad light look!

    • @gmccartney72
      @gmccartney72 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What type of fan are you running? I used the stock cummins engine fan which required moving the engine and trans rearward about 2 inches. If you don't want to do that, I think you can only use electric fans.

    I keep checking back for more vids on this channel. I’m glad you’re still putting them out. I know you don’t usually film yourself working on it but when you do the axle swap can you film a lot of it and make a video of it. I’m new to the car modification world and I have pretty much the identical truck and I want to lower it and make it look sick like yours. Anyways that would be a huge help. Thank you

    If you are looking for a diesel...I have a 85 C700 with a 8.2L Detroit Diesel, has only 92k miles, it was a PG&E truck aged out of service, runs great, 5 speed manual. It also has the 22.5 10-lug wheels, which was key to me since I had a 72 C50 with widow makers and I had to trash that chassis (That cab is now on a dodge motorhome chassis). I want to change the drivetrain to a hybrid gas-electric, so don't need the diesel. Look forward to seeing your project. Ramp truck right?

    • @gmccartney72
      @gmccartney72 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I appreciate the offer but I decided to leave the y-block in it since it was a new rebuild with only a couple hundred miles on it. As for the bed, I think my plan is something similar to a Holmes 525 wrecker bed without the boom on it.

  • @Highway35Garage
    @Highway35Garage 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I seen where you mentioned they came off a FedEx truck. But I didn’t know if they would bolt right up or if the hubs had to be changed out. And are the rear wheels also off a FedEx truck? I really appreciate the info. I love how you have yours sitting. I took note of the leaf spring removal you informed someone else about. I’m going to replicate your truck’s stance it’s just like I want mine to be. Mine is a 1987 c800 but pretty sure the frames and stuff are the same.

    • @gmccartney72
      @gmccartney72 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They did bolt right up, same pattern. No drum changes necessary for the 6 lug. All six wheels are from a fedex truck. The isuzu or gm w4500 trucks used them as well. Eventually, I will upgrade the axles to an Oshkosh chassis delivery truck since those seem to have used Dana 80 rear axles.

    Just a quick question on the new wheels. Did you just use the same drums with a 6 lug wheel on the front and what did you do with the rear wheels. Do they make a wheel that used the same hubs in the back 5 lug?? Thanks. I really want to change out my widow makers also.

    • @gmccartney72
      @gmccartney72 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mine was 6 lug already so all I did was bolt the rims on. I didn't have to change anything on the wheel ends. As for a 5 lug, those I think had a 5 on 8" pattern. Not sure about replacement wheels for them.

      Well after driving this truck all summer, plans have changed. With the outrageous cost of diesel, I am leaving the y-block in it and dress it up. It runs too good and has plenty of power so the current focus will be the axles and chassis.
