That is intense I've never seen that much tidle flow. I've had my sailboat through something about one eighth of that maybe less and it was a little difficult to control the vessel.
I can imagine! Saltstraumen is dangerous if you don't know where to go. If you get caught up in the whirlpools your boat may be crushed into land and there is nothing you can do. Sailboats are not supposed to pass thru when the current is at its strongest
Great video! I would love to see you spend several seasons sailing Scandinavia on your own boat WITH plenty of Scandinavian Mermaids. Only problem would be the shortness of Bikini Season. Keep on Doodely Doing, Captain!
Thank you! Yes I would have loved that too, but as you say the sailing season here is very short. Also sailing is difficult here as winds are changing all the time because of tall mountains and fjords.
Yeah, we have a few of those too. What makes this so impressive is that there is no natural drop level. It goes both ways by the force of the sun and the moon :)
That’s amazing Roger we usto fish in the kennebec River in Maine with a 9 knot current but that’s crazy keep up the good work. When can u get back to your boat.
Creating electricity from waves and streams has been a priority project in Norway for many years, but it failed. The ocean is a too harch environment for equipment to generate power and life span is too short from the investments made.
I believe that is different. You have strong currents that covers a huge area, but you have no currents running up to 20 knots and moving such massive amounts of water thru a narrow strait like this. I am not the one who says this is the strongest tidal current in the world, check out wikipedia :) You simply can not compare the two :)

another great video, takk !
Thank you for watching and commenting! Next episode will be aiming for mission impossible )
Nice video! There's a passage in North Western Australia where the tide drops so fast it creates a waterfall in the ocean of about 1-2 metres.
Oh! That sounds amazing! In Saltstraumen there is a one meter differense of the sea level and the fjord level at most.

That current looks like the river just below the hydroelectric dams on the other side of the county I live in.

And the Bay of Fundy between nova scotia and new brunswick canada has the highest tides, then there is st.john nb with the reversing falls.
Seems there are many attractions out there :)

Thank you. When I can return to my boat I do not know. I am hoping for february 2021 but right now that is just wishfull thinking...
I just had an idea!!
How about we put some elcric generating equipment in that current....and supply electricity to all of norway.

On the women overboard exercise, I would have suggested towing her back to shore ;-)
Oh behave! Be nice! ;) hehe
Maybe the worlds tidal current in your small world. Come sail on the South African East coast. It is not called the wild coast for nothing.
