    I purchased this recently on Craigslist for $120. I upgraded the RAM to 16GB, added a 1TB SSD & swapped the battery. It works like a charm!!

    This video among others helped me upgrade my mid-2012 MacBook Pro. I added a 1TB Samsung SSD and 16GB of Ram. One issue I ran into was my Mac was showing error code - 22 whenever I was trying to back up my hard drive to the SSD. If anyone else has this issue I suggest downloading Carbon Copy Cloner and using it to back everything up. I tried copying my hard drive over like 5 times using different methods and I had to wait through the process like 30-40 minutes each time just for them to show the same message. I downloaded CCC and it took about an hour and a half but when it finished everything worked flawlessly. I just used the free trial and it did everything I needed. Figured I'd let you all know because I wish someone would have told me hahaha.

    Just pulled the trigger and updated my 2009 MB Pro 13 that I haven't used since 2014 (always good to have a backup). The computer went from taking 20 seconds to load a single window to being almost immediate once again. Great job with this video! It was completely easy to understand and easy to follow. I watched a lot of them and I thought yours was the best.

    Well guess what? After waiting for three days without a response to my comment and posting issue on an Apple support community with several alternative suggestions i finally brought my computer to a professional computer repair shop.. Lo and behold! When i turne my MacBook on to show the technician my problem, it booted properly and my old MacBook is now working perfectly for which i am still grateful to you.
    Word of advice to others wanting to do this: be prepared to go the professional way if it doesn’t work for you. The risk is no one in this channel can help you troubleshoot. Be prepared to get help from a professional.
    Does it take a day or two or three before everything works as expected following your step by step instructions?

    I have a 2010 mbp which was my everyday computer until it got slower and slower, until it was unusable. Like you, it started to collect dust and I was about to get rid of it until I decided to see if I could upgrade it.

      This computer was quite slow before the upgrade, I couldn't do much on it like browse the internet at the speed I wanted, nor use zoom. After the upgrade I plugged my TV into it and used it for zoom meetings and general browsing at faster speeds. It became a usable computer for the less complex tasks. This was during the pandemic, and so all computers were useful for me as it was the only way to connect with friends, go to class, to exercise classes, and work. It became something my family could use, rather than collect dust.

    Crucial and Kingston both say my Macbook Pro mid 2010 can only take 8Gb RAM. So 16Gb will work on mine?

    • @IronBubbles
      @IronBubbles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it will work. Those websites base their specifications on the macs that were created and sold by apple in 2010 with 8GB ram. Memory cards evolved and became more affordable and so now you can put in two 8gb cards at a much more affordable price than when the 2010 mac was sold.

    I did the exact same thing ( upgraded to 1T SSD, and 16 GB of Ram) last year to my early 2011 Macbook Pro! My macbook is now blazing fast and its still going strong and I want to keep it until it breaks. But I am tempted to buy the new Macbook Pro 14 inch that's coming out in the fall. How long do you think you'll keep your old Macbook Pro?

    Awesome tutorial video. I followed your instructions step by step and got to the very end which is prettyamazing for a grrenhorn who has never seen the inside belly of a computer. After I tried installing macOS High Sierra It came to a halt with a grey screen and a “do not enter” sign. You know the circle with a diagonal stripe?
    What do I do in this case?

    I have upgraded the only SSD for my MacBook Pro mid 2010 but I am not able to buy 8+8=16 RAM in India.
    Is that fine to invest another 100$ to upgrade the RAM for above MacBook Pro after 10 years or continuing with 2+2=4 GB better choice?

    Thanks for making and sharing this helpful video. I have a MacBook Pro Mid 2010. I used to use Final Cut Pro and it was working fine but now it’s very slow even though I don’t use any heavy software on it. I actually haven’t used it for some time now.
    Could you suggest me a software or tool to check the issues please?
    I also would like to upgrade it, so could you suggest me what part I can upgrade and what maximum capacity I should get for those parts? Thanks in advance.

    • @IronBubbles
      @IronBubbles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know if it is something with the network configurations that is set up wrong, or if it is something like a virus? If you think it could be a virus, you can scan your computer with 'malwarebytes' and it will identify a virus. I would suggest taking the computer to a local university IT computer lab, there are always people willing to help the local community and help with fixing your computer, but with covid I'm not sure what is open. You will need an internet connection when you replace these parts in the video, so if you can figure out why the internet is not working, it would be helpful before you do the upgrade.

    • @IronBubbles
      @IronBubbles  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tripletmama7680 In that case you can replace the parts, and during the set up process the newer software will download from the boot menu, and you will have a newer version of safari on your computer. In the meantime, if you want to download an older version of a browser, here is a website which has older versions. www.oldapps.com/. but you will also have to update other things like flash player for example.
