The only bad thing about Elementalism is the wait until Phase 2 is done. You guys did an outstanding job.

This work will set the standard of modern classic Doom as much as Eviternity. It is a quality project in every way. Well done to all involved!

Elementalism is a project that screams "polish" in every conceivable way, and I think that's reflected best in the soundtrack, which I think is where it truly shines compared to its contemporaries.
Rather than settle for a merely amazing MIDI soundtrack like many projects before it, they've gone the extra mile and created a professional quality soundtrack full of distinctive and memorable tunes that capture the tone of each area without overstaying their welcome, even in the more complex and lengthy sections. They could've easily hired one of the many MIDI legends of the community to provide yet another stellar and evocative score, but I think they realised that a MIDI score wouldn't have done these beautiful maps justice, and I couldn't be happier about this decision.
What I love most about this soundtrack, I think, is that it captures a cinematic vibe while also being very rooted in its video gameyness. One moment you're cutting a bloody swathe through a jungle to the theme music of what could have been any 80s action movie hero's breakout hit (Ainihkiwa), the next you're turning every corner with dread while a sombre, deliciously evil orchestral number haunts you (Convergence Plates), the next you're tomb raiding with the best of them as pan flutes accent every sketchy near-missed jump (Shrouded Envy), the next you're getting lost in an impossibly large space to the sounds of predatory drums and whirring pizzicato (Hedania), the next you're immersed in something otherworldly, out of place, and distinctly dangerous, accompanied by muted whispers and a cosmic synth line that weaves between the jungle accoutrements, hidden from sight but whose presence is known (Viridian), before delving straight into video game boss territory while carrying that same orchestral/rock tone from previous tracks and even getting a little Dream Theatre-y in places (The God Parasite).
And that's just ONE of the three episodes! The other two are equally as adept at pulling you into themselves and letting their worlds and soundtracks speak for themselves, which makes all of this rambling redundant now that I think about it. Personally, I think Episode 3 is a little weaker compared to the first two, although that could be my bias as someone who finds exploring ancient temples fascinating, and going through Hell for the umpteenth time... less so, but compared to the best infernal outings this community has produced, including Eviternity's excellent fifth episode, I can see that it's a clear cut above even that. It's just not my cup of demonic tea, I suppose.
Standout tracks so far include Ainihkiwa, Convergence Plates, The God Parasite, Ba'alim of Canaan, Submerged, The Pale-Eyed King, Echoes' Edge, and Nathrath. All three boss themes are especially noteworthy, with The God Parasites' reincorporation of motifs from previous levels and its aforementioned prog metal flavour, Nathrath for resisting the urge to fully devolve into cringy "aRgEnT mEtAl!!!!!!!111one111!!!!!!!!" while still respectfully borrowing from Mick Gordon's work on Doom 2016, and The Pale-Eyed King for sounding like something that wouldn't seem out of place in the newest Serious Sam game, or like a better version of what Prince of Persia: Warrior Within was trying to evoke with its unfortunately dated soundtrack.
I eagerly await the next three episodes, as are many of us, and I hope to hear more excellent tunes such as these in the future. Fingers crossed we get a China-inspired section, which is what I thought the Fire episode was going to be before I stepped through the gate. :P

Huh, I always did get some serious Zerg vibes as well from Starcraft, from both Fire 3 and Fire 2 to an extent. Nice to see it mentioned just scrolling down the comments.

Actually, it might get two Cacowards, since the team's releasing the second phase eventually. If that's actually allowed, I definitely think Elementalism would deserve two.

just coming back to say the Earth episode actually gave me tons of Metroid Prime vibes, in terms of both the OST and general atmosphere. Especially the Fallen City of Hedania, it's got that creepy Metroid Prime 3 vibe

Just started playing, I would say it's the Doom equivalent of Quake's DWELL mod. So much polish, it's insane.
1:17:39 - this track just screams Dusk Horizon, I'm positive it was inspired by Unreal's OST

  • @Reilsss

Alot of tracks from the OST remind me heavily on Unreal game, but they all sound like they received a Remix or something. Who ever of your team did do the music. Tell them they did an fantastic epic job. Really love how the music came out. And the songs fit like a glove that they got used in. It is a wonderful end result.

Echoes' Edge is one of my favorites, it sounds like an ass-kicking blend of Symphony X and Nightwish imo.
Edit: Also, some of the melodics sound a bit like Tyran Castle from Chrono Trigger
