You just helped me understand a 15 mark answer of genome sequencing in a few minutes (I am working on graduating in Zoology). Thank you so much!

p.s. I liked your explanation of Illumina Sequencing, I wondered how it worked. I used the Sanger method, back when I was in genetics. (yes, I'm old) I actually thought about using Lego bricks to help explain things to new employees lol

Oh my gosh, Brit. I'm so glad you were allowed to advertise your channel on SciShow Psych, because otherwise I would have never found it. Your videos are great, and the views will definitely keep coming in. Keep up all the hard work, because all of us animal and nature lovers stuck at home, or stuck in some shitty dead end job unable to go to college, these videos are so important to us. Thank you! I'm 28, and this fall I'm finally going to college for the first time to pursue a wildlife biology degree. I'm absolutely terrified, but when I watch your videos and others like it, it really helps me gain confidence and stirs up my passion for the Earth, especially when I'm thinking too much and getting in my own head about fucking up college. Thanks again.

This video was highly informative ... but it massively corrupted my TH-cam suggestions! Up Next is "Baby Shark", and all the rest are young kids playing with slides, Barbie dolls(r), reviewing toys, et cetera!

Fun fact, Carcharias is the literal translation of the word shark in modern greek (karcharos is ancient greek). So I've been using their classification name my whole life without knowing! Would be fun for an outside observer.

You can always tell when someone is talking about something they’re passionate about! I’m so glad Britt was able to make a video like this. It’s amazing how little we know about sharks, so this is very exciting. Brit did such a fantastic job explaining the gene sequencing; it made this FL nerd very happy 💜 using the LEGO to help was genius.

    Keep up the good work.

Great video, even more so the part about gene sequencing: one of the best explanations I have seen. I hope the sequence more individuals. With our modern powerful GPUs computer time is no logger the main issue. I hope with time the Hebert cost and time goes way down. Until that moment this studies will continue to be like the NMR ones: very difficult to generalize

Great job on the sequencing process, that was really interesting!
On a separate note, I wanted to suggest a topic I've been thinking about for a bit. Model organisms, and how scientific research relies on them. What's it mean to be a model organism? I'm curious how the scientific community decided if a species would be a 'good' model organism. Also, are there drawbacks to relying on model organisms?

I want to run a research centre /lab and manipulate great white shark DNA/RNA , it’s just a matter of turning off certain genes , I wish to create a new shark larger , the great white liger as it were , except created in a lab . Maybe cross one with a whale shark then release it into the wild . With so many whales they shall have ample food .
